Step 1: Lead-in (5 minutes)
1. Show some pictures of people doing different activities, such as running,
dancing, reading, etc.
2. Ask students to describe the pictures using simple sentences.
3. Then introduce the topic of the present continuous tense by saying, "Today, we
are going to learn how to describe ongoing actions more accurately."
Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes)
1. Present the grammar focus sentences on the PPT and ask students to read them
aloud.
Is he exercising at the park? No. He's shopping at the supermarket.
Are you making zongzi for the Dragon Boat Festival? Yes. We're watching the
races on TV too.
What are you doing right now? I'm doing my homework.
What is he doing at the moment? He's watching a film.
What are they doing? They're having breakfast.
2. Ask students to underline the structures for the present continuous tense and
summarize the rule: be (am/is/are) + verb + -ing.
3. Explain the usage of the present continuous tense: to describe an action that is
happening at the moment of speaking.
Step 3: Practice (15 minutes)
1. 3a: Have students read the sentences and complete the exercises. Check the
answers together.
2. 3b: Ask students to complete the sentences with the correct forms of the verbs in
the box. Invite some students to share their answers and explain the reasons.
3. 3c: Have students complete the postcard with the correct forms of the verbs in
brackets. Then ask several students to read their completed postcards aloud.
Step 4: Group Work (10 minutes)
1. 3d: Divide students into groups. Have them take turns miming different activities
and the others guess what they are using the present continuous tense.
2. Walk around the classroom and offer guidance and assistance.

Step 6: Homework (2 minutes)
