Dear Henry,
I am writing to invite you to attend the Chinese paper-cutting art exhibition to
be held in the art gallery from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. next Sunday in our city
center.
Paper-cutting is a traditional art form in China, which has a history of more
than 1,500 years. People often beautify their home with paper-cutting during
festivals and weddings. In this exhibition, you can see paper-cutting with all
kinds of patterns. In addition, there are famous artists who will perform how to
cut paper on the spot. I wish that you could grasp this opportunity to learn
traditional Chinese culture further.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Pauses can be added to add impact to your communications.
★Pause before you speak.
★Pause before a punchline (要点) or particularly important point to increase tension and add
emphasis.
★Pause after a punchline or important points in order to let it sink in (被理解).
★Pause between a request phrase and command phrase in the same request sentence.
★Combine pauses with dramatic action, such as uncovering a new product, pointing to
something important, etc.
★Use body language signals to emphasize the pause. A simple way of doing this is to freeze
the body, perhaps with an expectant expression (期待的表情) on your face. Knowing smiles
and looking around whilst making eye-contact also is effective.

And here it is ... the birthday cake!
Can you please...sit down?
There are people here ... and they know who they are ... oh, yes ... who are
ready to make real changes today.
Pauses in speaking
Listen, follow, and imitate.
This will be the day, this will be the day when all of God’s children will be
able to sing with new meaning: “My country, ‘this of thee, sweet land of liberty,
of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim’s pride, from
every mountainside, let freedom ring!”
Pauses in speaking
And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.
So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.
Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.
Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.
Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.
Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.
Pauses in speaking
But not only that:
Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.
Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.
Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.
From every mountainside, let freedom ring.
Pauses in speaking
学而思网校
And when this happens, and when we allow freedom ring, when we let it
ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we
will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men, and
white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join
hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: “Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”
