The Islamic community in the United States
(A) In 1528, a Moroccan slave named Estevanico was shipwrecked near modern-day Texas. He, along with three other
survivors, traversed across the United States until reaching Mexico City. Estevanico may have been the first Muslim to
reach the United States; however, he was far from being the last. As a matter of fact, Islam is now the third largest
religion in the United States, and there appears to be a current population of approximately 3.45 million followers of Islam
in the country.
(B) There have always been challenges for Muslims in the United States. Many of America’s first members of the Islamic
community were slaves kidnapped from North Africa. Early on, views of Islam in the United States shaped the writing of
the US Constitution, which granted freedom of religion to its citizens. Even so, many Muslims dealt with prejudice due
to inaccurate and contradictory depictions of Islam – and many still do.
(C) For Muslims in the United States today, dealing with harassment and bullying has become a part of life. Especially
after the devastating attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001, followers of Islam have been regarded with suspicion
and are often wrongly viewed as terrorists.
(D) Meanwhile, however, there seems to be a shift in representation and appreciation of American Muslims in pop
culture. American Muslim comedians like Hasan Minhaj use their platform to promote understanding and tolerance, and
are generally received well by the public.
(E) Many Americans still have a lot of progress to make before they fully accept Muslims as fellow citizens. As is the
case with other minorities, members of the Islamic community in the United States face what at times seems like an
uphill battle. However, with the help of a modern celebrity presence and growing population, there are signs that Muslims
are being slowly embraced by Americans once more.

How to deal with telecom fraud
These days telecom fraud occurs frequently by means of telephones, text
messages and the Internet, creating false information with the purpose of
cheating people out of their money, which has caused great property loss to
some people. The cheat usually asks you to remit money or transfer accounts.
The following are some measures which I think may be of some help to you in
preventing telecom fraud.
First, don't believe in the cheats. Whatever they say, don't be fooled by them.
Second, keep your personal information from others especially your ID number.
Last but not least, remember the saying "Money doesn't grow on trees." and be
cautious about calls or messages from strangers.
To conclude, if we raise our awareness of self-protection, the cheats will never
get anything.
