another rescued animal. He became a symbol of hope and the power of love for us. As we brought him back to
health, we all realize there was something special about this dog. It's hard to put into words that feeling of
connection with an animal. All of us put in extra care for benny.
As he trusted us more, he became more playful and smarter and would wag his tail. He took training well
too. Eventually when he saw a young couple come to find a dog. Then he wagged his tail like never before. The
couple loved him at first sight and adopted him on their first visit. Every so often they would contact and sendphotos of him. I know as a volunteer, I am helping not just animals but people. This experience has given me
lessons on sympathy and teamwork.
It gives me great Joy to know that I really do make a difference. Volunteering here isn't just about the
animals, it's about bringing us together on two legs or four, we're all stronger together. I encourage all of you to
consider joining the team in some way.

There was an old bookstore on the corner of my street. I discovered it one sunny afternoon when I was
exploring the neighborhood. The moment I pushed open the door, a unique aroma (芳香) embraced me. The
shelves were stuffed with books of every genre and age. I could see the spines of well-loved classics, rare first
editions, and forgotten treasures. The owner, a middle-aged man with glasses and a warm smile, was busy tidying
up. He greeted me and told me to feel free to look around. I started browsing and was immediately fascinated by a
collection of old travelogues that seemed to hold the secrets of far-off lands.
Over the following weeks, I became a regular. I would spend hours there, losing myself in the pages of
different books. Sometimes, the owner would recommend a particular book based on our conversations. His
knowledge and passion for literature were truly inspiring.
However, change was on the horizon. The city was developing rapidly, and new, modern shops were
replacing the old ones. One day, I noticed a sense of gloom in the bookstore. The owner informed me that due to
the skyrocketing rent and the competition from online bookstores, he was struggling to keep the doors open. It
seemed that this little shelter of literature might soon disappear.
I was determined not to let that happen. I reached out to my schoolmates and local community groups. We
organized a book fair in front of the bookstore, inviting local authors and artists to participate. We also set up an
online crowdfunding page to collect donations. People from all over the neighborhood came to show their support.
They bought books, donated money, and shared their own memories of the bookstore.
Thanks to the collective efforts, we managed to raise enough funds to cover the rent for a while. The
bookstore survived this crisis. A community’s love and support can preserve something truly valuable. The old
bookstore was not just a place to buy books; it was a cornerstone of our community’s cultural and emotional
heritage, and it was worth every bit of the fight to save it.24.What caught the writer’s attention the most during his first visit to the bookstore?
A.The packed book shelves. B.The ancient travel accounts.
C.The friendly and devoted shop owner. D.The rich collection of literature classics.

A.Poor management of the store.
B.Rising rent and e-commerce pressure.
C.A decrease in people’s interest in literature.
D.The run-down condition and out-of-style decorations.
26.Which of the following best describes the writer?
A.Warm-hearted and influential. B.Inspiring and economical.

C
My son just completed high school, and his departure for college marks a significant change for me. Among
the things I’ll miss most are his lessons in teenage slang (俚语), which has offered me an accidental and useful
portrait of how he and his generation see the world.
The primary value of slang has been to create linguistic markers, a way to set you apart from other people.
The terms change over time, but the meanings typically don’t — one generation’s “cool” becomes another’s
“dope.”
Members of my son’s generation have a vastly superior approach to slang. They have invented a language
that responds to the new and distinct reality they face, a society characterized by collapsing institutions, erosions
(削弱) in trust and a loss of faith in a shared sense of meaning.
“Mid,” for example, in my son’s usage, describes things that are average or slightly below. You can’t really
complain about them, but they produce no joy. Everything in Starbucks and airports falls into the category of
“mid.”
“Glazed” has a similarly impressive precision, indicating the act of positively spinning a judgment on reality
rather than complete lying. It is the perfect description of the way social media works, with everything taking on an
artificially positive, unreal and not entirely trustworthy look. For example, beach photos on social media might
make a destination look like paradise, yet they rarely show the crowded shores or bad weather that are part of the
reality.
My favorite slang word is “based,” often used to express agreement when someone states a controversial
opinion. “Canada should join the United States,” one might say, to which someone else might reply, “Based.” To
my ear, “based” is a perfect word to describe the informational chaos we inhabit.
Slang has brought my son and me closer. It’s taught me that the current crop of teenagers created a languageto describe the flawed reality we’ve abandoned them to, and in doing so they’ve proved themselves less misguided
and more innovative than we were.
28.What does teenage slang reveal about young people?
A.Their need to fit in with peers. B.Their response to the flawed reality.
C.Their aim to challenge social norms. D.Their desire to outdo older generations.
29.Which comment on a crowded beach reflects the underlined word “glazed”?
A.“What a disaster!” B.“Not crowded at all.”
C.“A wonderful getaway!” D.“At least we found a spot.”
30.Which word best describes the tone of the text?
A.Appreciative. B.Analytical.
C.Instructive. D.Cautious.
31.What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Teenagers’ Fondness of Nonsense Words
B.Modern Slang Tells Us about Youth Culture
C.The Impact of Teen Slang on Social Relations
D.Teens Have Invented a Language for the World
【答案】28.B 29.C 30.A 31.D
Members of my son’s generation have a vastly superior approach to slang. They
have invented a language that responds to the new and distinct reality they face, a society characterized by
collapsing institutions, erosions (削弱) in trust and a loss of faith in a shared sense of meaning.
Glazed” has a similarly impressive precision, indicating the act of
positively spinning a judgment on reality rather than complete lying. It is the perfect description of the way social
media works, with everything taking on an artificially positive, unreal and not entirely trustworthy look. (“Glazed”
getaway!
It’s taught me that the current crop of teenagers created a
language to describe the flawed reality we’ve abandoned them to, and in doing so they’ve proved themselves less
misguided and more innovative than we were.
故选A项。
Among the things I’ll miss most are his lessons in teenage
slang (俚语), which has offered me an accidental and useful portrait of how he and his generation see the world.
D
Imagine you went out to lunch with six engineers. Only one of these lunch companions was wearing glasses,
and he told a story you’d relay (转述) to a friend. Your friend asked, “Who told this story?” It wouldn’t make much
sense to refer to that person as “the engineer” because everyone was an engineer. You’d probably refer to this
person as “the one with glasses”.
People pay special attention to the differences between groups. The groups you encounter frequently and
early in life become the background against which unfamiliar groups’ differences stick out.
The characteristics people have in common tend to be positive qualities, but what differentiates them
typically tends to be negative because most of the time, people behave according to social norms that encourage
positive behavior. So focusing on the differences makes people or groups appear more negative than they are by
drawing extra attention to the negative qualities that distinguish them.
In our research, we asked over 2, 000 participants to imagine traveling to a far-away planet and encountering
several aliens and their attributes (属性). We showed them six members of three alien groups, one after the other.
Participants liked alien groups that they encountered later less if the groups had distinct negative attributes. They
also remembered more of their negative attributes. If the groups had distinct positive attributes, participants likedalien groups that they met later more, and remembered more of their positive attributes.
Our findings showed that people focus on new, unique information about people, whether it’s positive or
negative. But because the things that differentiate groups tend to be negative in the real world, they focus on
negative attributes. And people may also often overlook the many positive shared attributes of unfamiliar groups.
When you encounter an individual or a group for the first time, it might be helpful to concentrate on what
you share with them, and not just look for things that are different.
32.What can be inferred from the first two paragraphs?
A.The similarities are attractive to people. B.The differences tend to be forgettable.
C.The similarities are actually unimportant.D.The differences are more likely to be noticed.
33.What do the findings of the author’s team show?
A.Unfamiliar groups are controlled easily. B.Unfamiliar groups are judged negatively.
C.Unfamiliar groups are rejected frequently. D.Unfamiliar groups often behave positively.
34.What should we focus on when we meet with a stranger?
A.What positive qualities he has. B.What he has in common with you.
C.What he is especially interested in. D.What negative personality he has.
35.What might be the best title for the text?
A.The different attitudes to differences B.The advantages of similarities in life
C.The disadvantages of being unfamiliar D.The link between differences and similarities
【答案】32.D 33.B 34.B 35.A
It wouldn’t make much sense to refer to that person as “the engineer”
because everyone was an engineer. You’d probably refer to this person as “the one with glasses”.(把讲故事的人称
People pay special attention to
the differences between groups.(人们会特别关注不同群体之间的差异。)”
Our findings showed that people focus on new, unique information about
people, whether it’s positive or negative. But because the things that differentiate groups tend to be negative in the
real world, they focus on negative attributes. And people may also often overlook the many positive sharedattributes of unfamiliar groups.(我们的研究结果表明,人们会关注关于他人的新颖、独特的信息,无论这些
When you encounter an individual or a group for the first time, it might
be helpful to concentrate on what you share with them, and not just look for things that are different.(当你第一次
A“The
different attitudes to differences(人们对差异不同的态度)”能概括文章主旨。故选A。
Reversal—change your perspective and solve your problem
It’s often your definition of a problem that limits you in finding a suitable solution. Creative solutions require
a change of perspective. 36
The reversal technique is a creative thinking technique that is based on the thought that to change your
perspective, you sometimes need to change the order of the words in your problem definition.
How you change the order of the words doesn’t matter much, as long as the key words are reversed. 37
Your challenge is “How do we make sure that fewer people take cars to their work?”. Swapping the key words, you
could rephrase this challenge as “How do we make sure that fewer cars take people to their work?” In this case,
the first statement will make you think of alternative means of transportation, like trains or bikes, while the second
statement will probably make you think of solutions like carpooling—fewer cars for the same number of people.
Not every problem statement is suitable for a reversal. Sometimes using this technique requires you to first
rephrase the question altogether. 38 For instance, the question “how might we sell more washing
machines?” is not easily reversed—there is no key word to swap with “washing machines”. Yet, when you rephrase
the question to “How might we sell more washing machines to young parents?” you can easily change it to “How
might we sell more young parents to washing machines? 39 You could interpret this last sentence as “thewashing machine pays the young parents to try it out”. Then, you could start communicating to potential buyers
how much they will save each year when they choose your energy efficient washing machine.
As this example shows, some reversals will require a very flexible way of thinking. 40 However,
thinking about the tiny amount of time it will “cost” you to try out a reversal, you have very little to lose and,
potentially, lots to gain.
A.The second problem statement is much more logical.
B.Often it helps to add one more key word to the sentence.
C.Rephrasing your challenge is to change the problem statement.
D.A great way to do this is by “reversing” your problem statement.
E.For instance, imagine you are responsible for limiting the traffic jam in your area.
F.Admittedly, it is a very unusual challenge, but it might just stimulate a creative thought.
G.Not everyone will be able to move from an unreasonable statement to a useful solution.
36.根据上文“Creative solutions require a change of perspective.(创造性的解决方案需要改变观点。)”以
及下文“The reversal technique is a creative thinking technique(逆向技术是一种创造性思维技术)”可猜测,
D选项“A great way to do this is by “reversing” your problem
How you change the order of the words doesn’t matter much, as long as the key words are
以及下文“Your challenge is
“How do we make sure that fewer people take cars to their work?”. Swapping the key words, you could rephrase
this challenge as “How do we make sure that fewer cars take people to their work?””.(你面临的挑战是“我们如
E选项“For instance,
imagine you are responsible for limiting the traffic jam in your area.”(例如,设想你要负责限制你所在地区的
38.根据前文“Sometimes using this technique requires you to first rephrase the question altogether.(有时使用
For instance, the question “how might we sell more
washing machines?” is not easily reversed—there is no key word to swap with “washing machines”.(例如,“我
B选项“Often it helps to add one more key word to the sentence.”(通常,在句子中再加一个关键词
Yet, when you rephrase the question to “How might we sell more washing machines to young
parents?” you can easily change it to “How might we sell more young parents to washing machines?(然而,当你
F选项“Admittedly, it is
a very unusual challenge, but it might just stimulate a creative thought.”(诚然,这是一个非常不寻常的挑战,
40.根据前文“As this example shows, some reversals will require a very flexible way of thinking.(正如这个例
However, thinking about the tiny amount of
time it will “cost” you to try out a reversal, you have very little to lose and, potentially, lots to gain.(然而,考虑
G选项“Not everyone will be able to move from an unreasonable statement to a useful

The Milky Way formed around 13.5 billion years ago, but it’s not possible to travel back in time to see
exactly how it 56 (happen). Studies of the Galaxy’ s (星系) ancient stars offer some clues, 57 do
simulations (模拟), but the observable light from our home galaxy was emitted (发出) too recently 58
(enable) astronomers to examine its beginnings directly. One way around this problem is to study other galaxies
that resemble the Milky Way. Mowla used observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to
investigate 59 distant galaxy with a mass that matches the expected mass of the Milky Way 60
(short) after its formation in the early Universe.
When astronomers observe distant galaxies, they see light that was emitted billions of years ago, because it
takes time 61 light to travel across space to their telescopes. 62 (earth) separation from such far-
away galaxies, and thus how long ago their light was emitted, can be measured, thanks to the constant 63
(expand) of the Universe. As light journeys across the vastness of space, its wavelength is stretched along with the
expanding fabric of space, 64 (make) it seem redder than it was when it was emitted. And the change in the
wavelength 65 (determine) by the distance the light travels and the age of the Universe at the time of
emission.

系提供了线索,一是“Studies of the Galaxy’s ancient stars offer some clues”即对恒星的研究提供了线索。
故填as。
成不定式表结果,与前文的too构成“too…to…”结构。故填to enable。
because到句末的原因状语从句为固定句型it takes time for…to do sth.。
故填 for。
Earth’s。
句子主语the change in the wavelength与所给动词determine之间是被动关系,此处应用被动语态。
故填is determined。

I believe social media should consider getting rid of the like button. While it has its benefits, the drawbacks
seem to outweigh them.
First, likes often encourage a shallow form of validation. People may focus too much on seeking approval,
which can lead to feelings of inadequacy when posts don’t receive many likes. Second, the pressure to gain likes
can create unrealistic expectations, distorting how people view success or popularity. Finally, likes can encourage
competition rather than connection, as users compare their content with others in terms of numbers, rather than
meaningful interactions.
In conclusion, removing likes would help create a healthier social media environment where people focus on
quality and authenticity instead of chasing numbers.
I believe social media should keep the like button. Despite some criticisms, it offers several benefits that
enhance online experiences.
Firstly, likes provide quick feedback, which helps people feel connected and appreciated. This small gesture
can boost someone’s mood and encourage positive interactions. Secondly, likes give users a sense of validation,
helping them feel that their opinions or creativity matter. Lastly, they allow content creators to measure their impact
and understand what resonates with their audience, helping them improve their posts.
In conclusion, the like button plays an important role in making social media more interactive and
encouraging, and it should not be removed.

success or popularity.
My friend Whit was a professional magician, and he was hired by a restaurant in Los Angeles to perform walk-
around, close-up magic each evening for the customers as they ate their dinners.
One evening he walked up to a family and, after introducing himself, he pulled out a deck of cards and began
performing.
Turning to a young girl sitting at the table, he asked her to select a card. The girl’s father informed him thatWendy, his daughter, was blind. Whit replied, “That’s okay. If it’s all right with her, I’d like to try a trick anyway. ”
Turning to the girl, Whit said, “Wendy, would you like to help me with a trick? ” Being a little shy, she shrugged
her shoulders and said, “Okay. ”
Whit took a seat across from her at the table and said, “I’m going to hold up a playing card, Wendy, and it’s going
to be one of two colors, either red or black. What I want you to do is use your supernatural power and tell me what
color the card is, red or black. You got it? ” He touched Wendy’s foot with his foot as he spoke. Clever Wendy
immediately understood and nodded. Whit held up the king of clubs and said, “Wendy, is this a red card or a black
(then his foot touched hers) card? ” After a moment, the blind girl replied, “Black. ” Her family smiled. Again and
again, her family members giggled nervously. Her family couldn’t believe how lucky she was. On the seventh card,
Whit held up the five of hearts and said, “Wendy, I want you to tell me the value of this card (then his foot touched
hers five times) and whether it’s a heart (then his foot touched hers) , diamond, club or spade. ” After a moment,
Wendy replied confidently, “It’s the five of hearts. ” Her family let out a gasp, stunned!
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________
Her father asked Whit how he and her daughter did it. Whit smiled and explained that it was all about
trust and communication. He had used a simple code with light touches on Wendy’s foot to convey the information
about the cards. For the color, one touch meant red and two meant black. For the suit and value, he used a similarsystem of touches. Wendy’s family were amazed at the teamwork and understanding that had been established
between the magician and the girl. They realized that it wasn’t super natural power but the power of human
connection that had made the trick possible.
Amazingly, this experience has turned Wendy into a person who cares about people like her. Inspired by her
successful interaction with Whit, Wendy became more confident and curious about the world around her. She
started to explore new ways to connect with others and to understand the world through different senses. Her family
noticed a positive change in her behaviors and her willingness to engage in social activities. Wendy’s story spread
through the community, inspiring others to see the potential in every individual, regardless of their physical
abilities. She became an advocate for the visually impaired, using her experience to raise awareness and promote
inclusivity.
