The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) is the largest museum in the United States! In this guide, we’ll walk
you through everything you need to know to visit the Met.
Visiting the Met: What We’ll Cover
Met covers 2.2 million square feet and houses a collection spanning 5,000 years of history. It’s a good idea to
be well-prepared to visit this world-class museum on your trip to New York.
Opening Hours:
Open Thursdays to Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..
Extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m..
Closed Wednesdays. Keep in mind that the Met is also closed on January 1, the first Monday in May,
Thanksgiving Day, and December 25.
Tickets:
Adults: $30
Seniors: $22
Students: $17
Children under 12: Free
How Long to Spend at the Met
The museum is massive. It also has a dense collection of paintings and sculptures. You could easily spend
the entire day or more inside, but that will really depend on why you’re headed to NYC.
I can tell you from experience that 3 hours tends to be the limit for most people. After that, you may get a bit
tired — unless you have a deep passion for art. Personally, I stick by that same rule. Your mind can only absorb so
much beauty at one time!
If you’re an avid (狂热的) museum-goer and really want to spend longer than that, then I highly recommend
taking a break in a café or sitting in a nice spot every 75 minutes or so. If you go in the afternoon, then a break
means a cocktail (鸡尾酒)!
1.On which days is the Metropolitan Museum of Art closed?
A.Mondays.
B.Wednesdays.
C.Fridays.
D.Sundays.
2.How much should a 13-year-old student pay to visit the Met?
A.$30.
B.$22.
C.$17.

3.What advice is given to museum lovers planning a lengthy visit to the Met?
A.Taking a break every 75 minutes.

Winter actually seems to bring out the best sights in some cities. Here are 3 around the world that make for a
great cold-weather destination:
Nagano, Japan
As a former Winter Olympics host city, Nagano is a great base for exploring nearby ski resorts (度假胜地).
The natural hot springs are perfect after a day on the slopes. Beautiful, snow-covered Buddhist temples are worth

Japan’s largest wooden temples. $187 per night (free for children under 8).

January.
The two-story K ä the Wohlfahrt Christmas store on Kurfürstendamm is worth a look — it’s open all year
and sells everything from tree decorations to candles.
Where to sleep: Hotel Otto on Knesebeckstrasse is located in one of Berlin’s quieter neighborhoods. $180
per night (free for children under 6).
Tromsø, Norway
There are several reasons why Troms, known as the capital of the Arctic, is great in winter. It’s widely
regarded as Norway’s most beautiful city and is a base for spotting the northern lights.
There are also several attractive museums, including the Polar Museum, which offers an insight into the
history of Arctic explorations.

Four Important Scientists in the World
Ellen Swallow Richards (1842-1911)
In 1868, the pioneering American engineer and chemist Ellen Swallow Richards became the first woman
admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she earned a degree in chemistry. According to
Cornell University, she is regarded as the founder of the field of home economics, which applied scientific
principles to domestic life, and she is considered one of the first environmental engineers thanks to her
groundbreaking research on water quality and sanitation (卫生).
Hermann Minkowski (1864-1909)
German mathematician Hermann Minkowski is most famous for developing a geometric interpretation of
Einstein’s theory of special relativity. Among his other innovations, he proposed the idea of space-time, which
combines the three physical dimensions of space with the fourth dimension of time into a unified mathematical
framework. He also made important contributions to number theory and the geometry of numbers.
Abdus Salam (1926-1996)
Abdus Salam was a Pakistani theoretical physicist who contributed to the scientific understanding of
fundamental forces. One of his key achievements was the theory of the electroweak force, which combined the
electromagnetic (电磁的) force and the weak nuclear force — a step towards a unified theory of everything. With
his colleagues, Salam was awarded the 1979 Nobel Prize in physics for this work.
Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858-1937)
Indian scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose is known for his contributions to the fields of physics, botany and
biology. He invented an instrument called the crescograph, which can detect minute changes in plant tissues in

Bypass the crowds struggling for the perfect sunrise shot at the main temple and begin your exploration at
the likes of Ta Prohm with its Tomb Raider vibes. If you get here early enough (the gates open at 5 a.m. ) you might

desert canyons of present-day Jordan, dawns over a day spent exploring this famous archaeological site.

Do your eyes and mind cheat you? The answer should be a straight yes. Here is a selection of magical sites
across the world where you can experience the most fantastical phenomenon in person.
House of Trassenheide, Germany
This blue house on the island of Usedom in Germany seems like a seaside holiday home: big yards, garden
benches and a bicycle parked outside. There’s just one major exception: Upon entering through the house, you
appear to be walking on the ceiling upside down as you explore the house.
Zhongshuge, China
Book lovers won’t believe their eyes when they step into this bookstore in Yangzhou, China, as the mirrored
floor and shelves create the false impression of a never-ending tunnel of books. Constructed in 2016, the design of
the architect was inspired by the relationship between the city’s many ancient bridges and the nearby Yangtze
River.
Devil’s Bridge, Germany
Viewed from certain angles, when conditions are right. Devil’s Bridge forms a perfect circle with its
reflection in the water, creating the illusion (幻觉) of a gateway to another world. The bridge was funded by a local
nobleman in 1860, and today no one is allowed to cross it. But it is out of concern for the bridge’s and visitors’
physical — rather than spiritual — safety.
Uyuni Salt Flat, Bolivia
The Uyuni Salt Flat in Bolivia is a wonder at any time of year, but it turns into an amazing mirror-like
landscape from November till April during the wet season, when its 6,835 square miles become a reflecting pool
for the sky. Adding to the otherworldliness of this place, the salt flats are breeding grounds for three species of
flamingos in early November.

Have you heard of these four monuments?
Carhenge, Floralis Genérica, Traffic Light Tree and Hand of the Desert—these are four unusual monuments
from around the world you might like to visit.
• Carhenge
Carhenge is in Alliance, Nebraska (USA). It has a lot in common with Stonehenge. But while Stonehenge
was built with stones, Carhenge was created with cars. The monument was made by a local artist Jim Reinders. He
used old cars and even an ambulance. At first, the people of Alliance didn’t like it, but they soon changed their
minds after it became popular with tourists, who brought lots of money to the town.
• Floralis Genérica
Floralis Genérica is a massive statue of a flower. It stands in a pool of water in front of the National Museum
of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Eduardo Catalano, a native of Argentina, gave the statue as a gift to the
city in 2002. Every morning, the flower opens. In fact, many people believe it is one of the most beautiful statues in
the world.
• Traffic Light Tree
The Traffic Light Tree is situated at Heron Quay, in one of London’s financial districts. The tree has 75 sets
of traffic lights. It was created by French artist, Pierre Vivant, and was installed in 1998. A computer controls the
lights, which are turned on and off randomly.
• Mano del Desierto (Hand of the Desert)
The Hand of the Desert is in the Atacama Desert in Chile. The sculpture was designed by the Chilean
sculptor Mario Irarrazabal. From a distance, it looks as if there’s a giant in the sand who has stuck his hand out of
the ground.

Top Power Banks for Charging on the Go
To find you the best power banks for your electrical emergencies, I put 4 top models through their paces.
Belkin BoostCharge Pro
◆
If you need a highly capable power bank that can recharge your laptop and smartphone, this model would be
a fine choice.
Why we love it: Charging didn’t slow down much when I plugged in two devices at once.
It’s a shame that... the on-screen metrics are slightly less detailed than those on some competing brands.
Capacity: 20,000mAh, £59.99 at Amazon.
Anker Nano
◆
Quick and small enough to carry in a trouser pocket, it is ideal for lightly recharging a smartphone.
Why we love it: It’s minimalistic. I’m a big fan of its fold-out USB-C connector, which can be directly
plugged into your phone.
It’s a shame that... you’d need something more powerful to charge your laptop.
Capacity: 5,000mAh, £29.84 at Amazon.
Belkin BoostCharge
◆
It’s hard to believe this is a cheap option. It speedily charges smartphones and other lower-powered devices.
Why we love it: Neat and impressively light, this is one of those rare power banks that you can carry in a
jacket pocket.
It’s a shame that... charging two devices at once reduces the maximum total output from 20W to 15W.
Capacity: 10,000mAh, £9.99 at Amazon.
RAVPower Charger
◆
A reliable and outstanding option for those who need a balance between power and portability.
Why we love it: The multiple charging ports allow you to charge different devices simultaneously. Its fast-
charging technology ensures that your devices get a quick boost.
It’s a shame that… it lacks the advanced on-screen metrics that some high-end power banks offer.       Capacity:
15,000mAh, £49.99 at Amazon.
1.What is a feature of Anker Nano ?
A.Its large capacity.
B.Its direct-charging connector.
C.Its on-screen-display design.
D.Its fast-charging technology.
2.Which power bank offers the best value for money?

Camping in national parks is an incredible way to experience nature. National parks across the United States offer a
variety of camping options. The cost can vary depending on the park, the time of year, and the type of campground
you choose. Generally, fees are divided into two categories; campground fees and entrance fees.
Campground Fees
The primary cost of camping at a national park is the fee for reserving a campsite. These fees can differ
significantly based on several factors:
Type of Campsite: Standard campsites, RV (房车) campsites, backcountry campsites and group campsites.
Location: Some national parks are more popular than others, and this can impact the fees. Parks near large
cities or tourist attractions tend to charge higher fees, while more remote parks may offer lower prices.
Season: The time of year can also affect campsite prices. Summer months, which are peak season for most
parks, usually see higher fees. If you visit during the off-season (fall or winter), you may find lower rates.
Typical Campground Fees:
Standard campsites: $15 to $30 per night
RV campsites: $20 to $50 per night
Group campsites: $30 to $ 100 per night
Backcountry campsites: $5 to $25 per night
These fees can be higher in well-known parks like Yellowstone or Yosemite, where campsites may cost upwards of
$40 to $70 per night for standard sites.
Entrance Fees
In addition to campground fees, national parks usually require an entrance fee for visitors. Entrance fees help
maintain the park’s facilities and support park staff. These fees can also vary widely depending on the park.
Typical Entrance Fees:
Per vehicle: $ 10 to $35 (for 7-day access)
Per individual (for bikers or walkers): $5 to $ 20
1.What factor can affect campsite prices besides the type and location of campsites?
A.The time of year.
B.The size of the campsite.
C.The age of the camper.
D.The price of the vehicle.
2.Which type of campsite is usually the most expensive?
A.Standard campsites.
B.RV campsites.
C.Group campsites.
D.Backcountry campsites.
3.Why does the author write the text?
A.To promote camping in national parks.
B.To compare the costs of different national parks.
C.To introduce the fees for camping in national parks.
D.To describe the types of campsites in national parks.

The information, sentences, or questions that you enter into a Generative AI (Gen AI) tool (“prompts”) are a
big influence on the quality of outputs you receive. After you enter a prompt, the AI model analyzes your input and
generates a response based on the patterns it has learned through its training. More descriptive prompts can
improve the quality of the outputs.
It’s very important to keep in mind that AI-generated content can be inaccurate, misleading, entirely
fabricated, or offensive, so be sure to carefully review any work containing AI content before you use or publish it.
Abuse of Gen AI is a serious form of academic misconduct and can be punished by expulsion ( 开除) from the
University.
Be specific
Generic prompts like “Write a story” will produce generic results. What kind of story do you want? What
genre? Is it for adults or children? Adding this type of context and being specific, clear, and concise will help
generate more useful outputs. More specificity can also limit the chances of inaccurate responses.
“Act as if…”
Asking the AI to behave as if were a type of person, process, or object can be an easy way to start generating
better prompts. The AI will attempt to emulate that role and tailor its answers accordingly.
For example, imagine you wanted help create a recipe based on the ingredients you have in your kitchen. If
you added “act as if you are my personal trainer” first, the AI will consider this context in its response, suggesting a
healthy recipe or a meal designed to refuel after a workout.
____________________
Generative AI can produce many different types of outputs, including code, stories, reports, summaries,
dialogue, business communications, and much more. Being specific about the type of output you want will produce
better results. After describing what you want, try adding “Present this in the form of…” and your preferred output.
Or start your prompt with, “Create a [format of output] about/that contains…” etc.
1.This passage is found in a university’s guideline webpage. What may NOT be found there?
A.Core principles for responsible Gen AI use.
B.Restrictions on the usage of Gen AI.
C.Various samples of well-structured prompts.
D.Guides to writing essays with Gen AI.
2.Which of the following subtitles can be filled in blank?
A.Consider tone and audience
B.Tell it how you want your output to be presented
C.Ask it to create your prompts or what else it needs from you
D.Correct mistakes and give feedback
3.Suppose you’re the leader of the school basketball team. You are going to deliver a speech about the importance
of sports through sharing your personal experience. Which of the following prompts is the most proper when using
Gen AI?
A.Compose a motivational basketball team speech sharing personal journey and advocating exercise.
B.Write an article about the essence of basketball, citing several stories of famous stars.
C.Discuss advantages of doing sports, specifically basketball, with reference to literature.
D.Make up a story about one’s experience in basketball, showing the importance of sports.
1.【2021 年全国乙卷】The Biggest Stadiums in the World
People have been pouring into stadiums since the days of ancient Greece. In around 80 A.D., the Romans built
the Colosseum, which remains the world’s best known stadium and continues to inform contemporary design.
Rome’s Colosseum was 157 feet tall and had 80 entrances, seating 50,000 people. However, that was small fry
compared with the city’s Circus Maximus, which accommodated around 250,000 people.
These days, safety regulations-not to mention the modern sports fan’s desire for a good view and comfortable
seat—tend to keep stadium capacities(容量) slightly lower. Even soccer fans tend to have a seat each; gone are
the days of thousands standing to watch the match.
For the biggest stadiums in the world, we have used data supplied by the World Atlas list so far, which ranks
them by their stated permanent capacity, as well as updated information from official stadium websites.
All these stadiums are still funtiona1, still open and still hosting the biggest events in world sport.

2.【2021 年天津卷第二次】When starting college, most students enjoy a week's stay on campus before
classes actually begin. What should you do with that time? Below are several tips to ease(使熟悉) yourself into
college life.
Participating in Campus Welcome Activities
Most universities host welcome events before the academic year officially begins, including freshmen
orientations (迎新会),campus picnics, and entertainments like concerts.
Participating in such events is a great way to learn about school facilities and understand campus culture:
What do students do for fiin? What are their favorite classes? What is the history of your university? It can help you
observe campus life outside the classroom.
Exploring Campus
Getting to know where essential campus resources are—such as the student advising center, psychological
services, and the tutoring center~~will make your first few weeks on campus a lot easier, because you won't have to
look for them while still getting used to your classes.
Take some time to check out the buildings where your classes will be held. This will prevent you from getting
lost in the first few days of classes, and familiarize you with how long it takes to get from place to place. If you're
worried about taking classes one after another in different buildings, a quick test run won't hurt. That way, you will
avoid potential time delays in getting to your classes.
Starting a Routine
Before getting too excited about all of the fun things you will be able to do during the week, remember that
you do have a pretty big schedule change coming up. Starting classes means being in different places at different
times, so it’s a great idea to start getting used to that routine right this week.
What helps you most is to schedule your sleep. Following the planned time will ensure you have enough sleep
to get to those early classes and stay wide awake.
If you have other daily routines, such as exercising or talking on the phone with family, work those into your
day-to-day life before classes start so that you get a better idea of how they fit in with your schedule.
