When the food came, she took out some plastic bags from her bag. She carefully put the food into the bags,
explaining that she wanted to save some for later. My mother and I exchanged a look, and we both felt a pang of
sadness. We told her to eat as much as she wanted and that we could order more if needed. She thanked us with
tears in her eyes and started to eat slowly, savoring every bite as if it were a luxury.
I think about Judy every so often. Her story has stayed with me, reminding me of the importance of kindness
and compassion. I have learned that we should never turn a blind eye to those in need and that a small act of
kindness can make a huge difference in someone’s life. I hope that Judy has found a place to stay and is getting the
help she needs, and I will always be grateful for the lesson she taught me that day.
