【词汇用法】
1. improve
improve既可以作及物动词,也可以作不及物动词,意为“改进,提高,改善”,表示某
事或某种情况逐渐好转。例如:
Their French has improved a lot. 他们的法语进步很大。
We haven’t discovered how to improve it.
我们还没找到如何改进它的办法。
You’d better work out a plan to improve your writing skills.
你最好制定一个提高写作能力的计划。
We are always seeking to improve productivity.
我们一直在设法提高生产率。
increase 意为“增加;增长”,可作动词,也可作名词。
如:The number of the students in our school has increased since 2010.
The number of the students in our school has been an increase since 2010.
拓展:increase by 倍数/百分数,意为“增加……倍/百分之……”
The number of the students in our school has increased by 2 times.
increase to 增长后的具体数字,意为“增长到了……”
The number of the students in our school increased to 3000 last year.
2. make mistakes 犯错 如:I often make mistakes. 我经常犯错。make a mistake 犯
一个错误 如:I have made a mistake. 我已经犯了一个错误。13. laugh at sb. 笑话;

how to increase my reading speed是“疑问词+动词不定式”结构,在句中作宾语。

注意】what to do后不需要跟宾语 how to do后必须跟宾语

1) make mistakes 犯错;出错I make mistakes in grammar. 我在语法方面出错。
make mistakes或make a mistake意为“犯错;出错”,其后常接in引起的介词短语,表示
在某一方面出错。
2) mistake ... for ... 错把……当成……
I mistook the house for a hotel.我把这栋房子错当作旅馆了。
3) by mistake 由于差错,错误地

部分否定
此处not always 表示“并非总是”。当not与both、always、 all、everyone、 everything等
词连用时,表示部分否定。

[探究]动词不定式 (短语)作后置定语
动词不定式(短语)作定语修饰名词或代词时,通常放在所修饰 词的后面,一般与所修饰
词存在逻辑上的动宾关系。如果不定式 中的动词是不及物动词,不定式后要用适当的介
词,并且介词不 能省略。

You may think that English dictionaries have been used for many, many centuries. In fact,
an English dictionary you 1 6 today wasn’t made until the Qing Dynasty (清朝). Three
men did most of the important 17 work on dictionaries. They spent nearly all their lives

When you are learning a language, listening, speaking and writing are important, but
reading can also be very helpful. When you read, you cannot only learn some new words, but
also learn how to use them. When you read a passage, it gives you a good example for writing.
Here are some good reading tips.
Firstly, try to read at the right level( 水平). Read something that you can understand. If it
is too hard for you, it is not interesting.
Secondly, try to understand the new words. If there are four or five new words on a page,
don’t use a dictionary. Instead, try to guess their meanings as you read. Mark (做标记) them
with a pencil. Then look them up in a dictionary when you finish reading, and write them in
your own vocabulary book. Try to remember them.
Thirdly, try to read for a short time once a day. Fifteen minutes or half an hour every day
is better than two hours every Sunday. For example, you can read before you go to bed, or after
you get up or at lunchtime.
Lastly, read something that interests you. Choose a newspaper, a book or a magazine
about a subject that you like. It will be easy enough for you to understand.
