Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m Li Hua, an exchange student from China. Learning that you’re seeking volunteers for
the “Chinese Culture and Art” exhibition at the National Gallery, I’m writing to apply for the
position.
As a Chinese teenager, I have an in-depth understanding of Chinese history and culture,
which I am excited to share with a broader audience. And what is worth mentioning is that my
fluency in English will guarantee a clear and precise information exchange. Furthermore, my
strong sense of service will ensure that I can perform my duties with excellence, creating a
memorable experience for all visitors.
I’d appreciate it if you could take my application into consideration.
                                                           Yours sincerely,
                                                               Li Hua
Paragraph 1:
Jack’s face went pale. “I … I … You know the truth?” he mumbled. Mr Brown nodded,
“Yes, Jerry told me himself just half an hour ago.” He explained that Jerry had met him at the
café and told him everything — how he had ridden his brother’s motorcycle without
permission and lost control of it, resulting in the minor accident that dented Mr Brown’s new
car. Jack froze on the spot, completely at a loss for words. “I see, you are trying to protect your
brother,” Mr Brown continued, “but do you think this kind of protection is what Jerry needs?”
With his face flushing in shame, Jack said, “I am so sorry, but we will pay for the damage.”
“Jerry has apologized to me. Just forget it, it’s just a small dent,” Mr Brown smiled, “and I
think you have a great brother?”
Paragraph 2:
On his way home, Jack felt proud of his brother’s courage in confessing everything. His
younger brother has grown up. Seeing Jerry at the doorway, Jack ran towards him, gathering
him in his arms. “You are so brave, Jerry. I am so proud of you!” Jerry’s face burned, “I’m
sorry for riding your motorcycle without asking for permission. I made the trouble. Of course I
should take the blame. I won’t hide behind you expecting your protection” Seeing the sparkle
of courage in Jerry’s eyes, Jack knew he had made an unwise decision. When the accident
happened, all Jack wanted to do was protect his brother. But he ignored a fact that hiding the

truth is never a wise choice. And constant protection will never contribute to the growth of a
boy.
Text 1
W: Sorry, I didn't say hi to you in the supermarket this morning, Eric. (1) I was just caught
up in lunch plans.
M: No worries, Mary. But I've got to prepare for tonight's video conference. Catch you later!
Text 2
W: Do you know Ben is an excellent guitarist? He is putting together his own band.
M: Exactly. Are you good at playing the piano? Maybe you can join his band.
W: I am just starting to learn, but I've been playing the violin for a few years. (2)
Text 3
W: I'm a little annoyed at my seven-year-old son. He asked me not to kiss him anymore,
especially in front of his friends. (3)
M: Maybe he thinks he is a big boy now.
Text 4
W: Leo, turn off the computer and put your shoes on. We need to go to the mall.
M: The mall? Do I really have to go?
W: Yes, you do. Your pants are too short and your shirts are too tight. (4)
M: Well, I guess I have no choice.
Text 5
M: I received an email from your office this morning. It said there was an issue with my credit
card.
W: Yes, sir. We've noticed a number of unusual payments. We want to confirm whether
you are aware of them. (5)
Text 6
W: Here is a picture of you when you were three years old.
M: Wow, look at me! Why was I wearing that silly hat? (6)
W: It was New Year's Day. Your dad and I wanted you to wear it to his company party. (6)
M: Why? I mean, it looks more like something a clown would wear rather than a hat for a
party.
W: Because you were so lovely in it, and we just wanted everyone to see you, you know. (7)
M: Oh, please, just forget about it.
Text 7
M: Good morning, madam. May I see your passport?(10)
W: Yes, of course. Here you are.
M: Thank you. Are the two suitcases yours?
W: No, this silver suitcase is mine.(8) And that black one is my friend's. Do you want her
passport, too?
M: Yes, please. Do you have any carry-ons?
W: Are you referring to the bag?(8) Am I not allowed to take it on board? (10)

M: I mean, you should place it on the belt. And your handbag as well. (8)(9) Could you
please open the silver suitcase for me to take a look? (10)
W: OK, let me unlock it. Just some clothes.
M: That's fine, thanks. Here are your passports.
Text 8
M: Hello, can you show me the way to the main entrance? My friend dropped his wallet in
the parking lot. (11)
W: Yes, go past the Renaissance paintings and turn left into the room with the 20th century art.
You'll see a long hallway. Follow the long hallway to the end, and you'll find the entrance there.
M: Thank you. Will the security guard let me in again after I leave the building?
W: Since you've already bought a ticket, just get your hand stamped at the front desk. That
way, you can go in and out as many times as you want before closing. (12)
M: Great! Oh, one more thing ... Do you know of a good place to eat around here?
W: There's a cafe at ground level.
M: I know, but it's too expensive. Is there anything outside the museum?
W: Well, I usually go to the Vietnamese restaurant across the street, (13) but the fast-food
restaurant around the corner is even cheaper.
Text 9
W: Hello, it's nice to have the chance to interview you, John.
M: Thank you for the opportunity. I'm ready to begin.
W: Great! Let's get started. How long do you usually work each day?
M: Currently, I work from nine in the morning to noon, and then from one in the
afternoon to eight at night. (14)
W: Do you have to work on weekends?
M: Oh, yes, that's my busiest time. I have a day off on Tuesday.
W: Is there anything you don't have to do?
M: I don't have to do the washing-up, (17) so that's good
W: I see. Well, what's the most challenging aspect of the job? (15)
M: We are on our feet all the time, which can be exhausting, especially during the rush
hours when people get hungry and impatient. (15)(17) But that's normal.
W: I've been told that you're very good at your job. What's your secret? (16)
M: Pay attention to details and love what you do. (16)
W: Do you have any future plans in mind?
M: I want to have my own restaurant when the right time comes. (17)
W: All right. Thanks for your time. Good luck!
M: Thank you.
Text 10
Good afternoon, New York University's graduating class. It's an honor to stand before you
today. For those of you who may not know me, I'm Matt de la Peña, author of children's books,
including Carmela Full of Wishes, Milo Imagines the World, and Patchwork. However, I think

you might be most familiar with my Last Stop on Market Street, which came out in 2015.
(18) I wrote my first children's story in the library of my university. To be honest, the story was
not good. I never got it published, but it is actually my favorite piece of writing. Every time I
start a new book, I go back to it. I still laugh at the poor grammar, the silly plot and the
awkward drawings. (19) I keep returning to it because it reminds me of my starting point.
Each time, I'm reminded how much I have grown since then. I have worked hard to improve
with every book I have written, and this commitment to growth has brought me success. No
matter what path you choose next, the same rule applies. (20) The only way to become
better is to keep moving forward.
This tradition has recently been split in two with a Senior Roast happening on
the Thursday ……. On the last day of classes, ……”, 所以选C。
Symbolized by a candle flame, the spirit of the Wells connection is
passed from alumni to students, …”
23. 原文第五段最后一句话“… the senior class takes turns kissing the feet of Minerva,
believing she will bring success and prosperity to all graduating seniors. ”, 所以选A。
However, it was an encounter with a community clean-up project two years
ago that shifted his focus to urban wildlife.”, 所以选A。
The first, a 15-square-meter plot near an internal road, was transformed
from an existing greenbelt.”, 所以选B。A 选项应该是“for urban wildlife” 而不是
“endangered species”.
故选A。
29. 原文第三段“I think it’s a similar phenomenon to modern art, ……”, 后面举了很多现
I think it becomes too much. Everything is too perfect. How is that
supposed to be cool or interesting?”
I think it’s only natural that more modern Chinese products will
become popular in the West…Young people are starting to expect new and exciting things from
China”。所以选C。
This study aimed to determine if this wakefulness is due to caffeine or the
experience of drinking coffee.”, 故选D。
Participants avoided caffeinated drinks for at least three hours before the
study.” 所以选A。
34. 原文第五段“drinking coffee increased connectivity in the higher visual network and the
ECN, involved in working memory, cognitive control and goal-directed behavior.”所以选D,
{#{QQABZYYhwggQkJTACR4KEUWyCAsQkIEjLeoMxQCaOAwjiIFABIA=}#}

且B 错 “…. connectivity decreased in the DMN (大脑默认模式网络)” 故C 错。
35. 原文最后一段 “… the subjects were more ready for action and alert to external stimuli
after having coffee,” …. The specific smell and taste of coffee … might contribute to its unique
44. D. 从前文 “she would make a lot of money…”
“economic”。
45. D. talk sb. into doing sth.
“awkwardly”。
51. D. 见上。
52. B. 通过下文 “Angela 53 her arms around the dirty girl.” 故选 “hug”。
53. A. wrap sb. in one’s arms
54. A. … before she knew it.
calling
58. be aware that + 句子。be aware of + 名词。
59. … knowing that ………. and that ………….
62. rise to fame
