① History has witnessed the endless production of Shakespearean plays in every
major language of the world. It is never rare to find that Mozart packs Japanese
concert halls, as Japanese painter Hiroshige does Paris galleries. Unique works of

② Over the past two years, the farm has attracted volunteers from the community like
Marcy Clark. She schools her four children at home. On a recent day, she brought
them to Eco City Farms for a lesson. Her son Alstom Clark thinks his experience is
very valuable. “I like coming out here”, he says, “You know, you connect with the
earth, where your food comes from. You appreciate the food a little bit more.”
Margaret Morgan started Eco City Farms. She thinks of it as a place where people
can learn to live healthier lives. “Growing food in a community brings people together,”
she continues, “Every piece of what we do here is a demonstration to show people
everything about how to have an eco-friendly community.” she says. From the Eco
City Farms people come to know that they are not only growing food and raising
chickens and bees, but improving the soil with compost mad from food waste.

① Some politicians often use this trick. Let’s say that during Governor Smith’s last
term, her state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs. Then she seeks
another term. One of her opponents says, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state
lost one million jobs!”
That’s true. However, and honest statement would have been, “During Governor
Smith’s term, the state had a net gain of two million jobs.”

B. Big advantage.
C. Large share.

lead to the opposite effect. Praise-aholic kids who expect it at every turn may
become teens who seek to same kind of approval from friends when asked if they
want to go in the backseat of the car.

( ) The underlined words “Praise-aholic kids” refer to kids who are ____.

确把握文章主旨大意的能力。一般针对文章的标题、大意或写
作目的设题。
       一般来说,议论文和说明文每段的第一句话代表本段的中
心思想,要善用主题句把握每段的中心思想。

IV. 主旨大意题
① According to the designer, the Lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed,
so as not to cause harm the pedestrians. Besides, it would be grounded to protect
from possible lightning strike. Each Lampbrella would offer enough shelter for several
people. Being installed at 2 metres off the ground, it would only be a danger for the
tallest of pedestrians.

( ) What does this paragraph mainly tell us about the Lampbrella?
A. Its moving speed.

B. Its appearance.
C. Its installation.

D. Its safety.

IV. 主旨大意题
② September sees a series of events celebrating the unknown work of the large
female workforce. Musician Caludia Molitor has created a 45-minute musical entitled
“the Singing Bridge”, which runs at Smoerset House from 9 to 25 September. In late
September, the “Light up the Ladies’ Bridge” event saw the National Theatre’s fly

our self-confidence. As our self-confidence reduces, so does the level of our

(A) Starting high school is a powerful experience for any teenager. Whether you
are coming from a middle school (grades six through eight) or a junior high school
(grades seven through nine), there are many things about high school that are
different from your old school environment, and you will experience many changes.
(B) You will face entering a new school, making new friends in an unfamiliar class
and getting to know new teachers. These new teachers will usually have higher
academic expectations than your middle or junior high school teachers. They want
to help you get into college. In return, they expect you to work hard and improve
your skills.
(C) Although these are all big changes, they are not something you cannot handle.
There are many different resources available to help you deal with any problems.
Your teachers, counselors, doctors, parents, and friends are there to help you
make the transition to this great new time in your life.

(D) If you don't feel comfortable talking to any of these people, there are many help
hotlines you can call to talk anonymously. High school may be a time of changes,
but these changes should be for the better.
(E) Your high school years are a great time in your life. You will gain new freedom
and have new experiences and new responsibilities. Many high school students
get their driver's licenses when they turn 16 and gain a new type of independence.
(F) However, other changes are less fun. To fully enjoy your high school
experiences, try to deal with the situations of your life with which you are not happy.
(G) If you are feeling pressure to do something you feel wrong, talk to a friend,
parent, or counselor to find a solution. If you are not succeeding academically, find
a teacher or someone to help you improve. If you feel isolated, try to join a school
club or group to make new friends.
(H) High school may seem rather difficult at first, but over time, you will come to
appreciate everything about your experiences.

(A) Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting
worse, according to the doctors. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.
(B) Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy,
fatty foods, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out
a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a meal for themselves. If there
were fewer of these restaurants, then probably children would buy less take-away
food.
(C) There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to
become overweight. I agree with this, because good eating habits begin early in life,
long before children start to visit fast food shops. If children are given fried chicken
and chocolate rather than healthy food, or are always allowed to choose what they
eat, they will go for sweet and salty foods every time, and this will carry on
throughout their lives.

(D) There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little
exercise. They do not walk to school. When they get home, they sit in front of the
television or their computers and play computer games. Not only is this an
unhealthy pastime (消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food.
What they need is to go outside and play active games or sports.
(E) The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to
encourage young people to be more active, as well as steering them away from
fast food shops and bad eating habits.

Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse, according to the doctors.
I feel there are a number of reasons for this.
Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy, fatty foods, such as fried
chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a
meal for themselves. If there were fewer of these restaurants, then probably children would buy less take-away
food.
There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree
with this, because good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food shops. If
children are given fried chicken and chocolate rather than healthy food, or are always allowed to choose what
they eat, they will go for sweet and salty foods every time, and this will carry on throughout their lives.
There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to
school. When they get home, they sit in front of the television or their computers and play computer games.
Not only is this an unhealthy pastime (消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food. What they
need is to go outside and play active games or sports.
The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be
more active, as well as steering them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.
