阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Getting to watch surgery should be exciting for any medical student. But in my case, while two doctors were
doing the operation, I was checking my phone every 20 seconds to see how much longer it would be until I could
leave. I didn’t belong there; I was only pretending to be there. The truth was that, halfway through university, I knew
I didn’t want to be a doctor. And I had to decide whether to keep lying to myself, or change my major.
Before university, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Pd always wanted to study English but my
parents didn’t approve, saying there was no money in it. So I figured I’d just pick a career that looked well-paid,
satisfying, and would make my parents proud. “Doctor” is the first choice, so I decided to study medicine. I knew
all the coursework wouldn’t be easy, but I didn’t expect to find it as hard as I did. I spent many late nights and
weekends studying, but still didn’t get good grades. I just couldn’t keep the material in mind. By exam time, my

grades were terrible and I felt like a fool. I thought maybe a medical internship (实习医生的工作) would help raise
my spirits. Absurdly, my internship was where I realized how little I wanted to be a doctor.
Every day I’d just go into work and do exactly what I was told, go where I was told to go, and watch what I
was told to watch. And then I’d go home. It was fun whenever I got to play with expensive microscopes or watch
crazy surgery, but the rest of the time I struggled to get through the day. The other interns, however, practically
worked so hard. They were so driven. I thought, “Wow, these interns really want to be doctors. I obviously don’t.
“It was a sad realization that sadder, scarier question: If I didn’t want to be a doctor, what did I want to do?

【参考答案】
It wasn’t an easy decision. I had two choices—either keep lying to myself or do a different degree. Changing my
major would make the past two years of university a waste of time and money. But I realized that though I’d hate
myself for quitting, I’d hate myself more if I ended up being a terrible doctor. I was glad to move onto something
new, but I had to deal with my parents’ constant disappointment and complaining about my future.
Eventually, I changed my major to English writing and suddenly I found university enjoyable. I was still
studying late and through the weekend, but, this time, enjoying the pain. I’d spend hours perfecting a single paragraph

四、阅读理解
When I was in high school, I typed up a letter and mailed it to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, boldly
(大胆地)asking for “all of their research on stroke”. I was working on a yearlong project that required me to
reach out to experts. Several weeks later, a thick packet arrived in the mail, along with a personalized letter thanking
me for my inquiry. I was thrilled. Whoever responded could have thought, “This is just a teenager. We don’t have
time for her.” Instead, they took the time to put together the information I requested. Being taken seriously boosted
my confidence and said that I belonged to science.
I participate in a variety of outreach activities-neuroscience demonstrations, science fairs, career panels,
science camps. Those activities take time and energy away from my own research, as I found recently while
completing my Ph. D. But they also benefit me in ways I didn’t necessarily expect, helping me grow and find
satisfaction in my work as a scientist.
It’s satisfying to encourage young ambitious scientists in the same way others encouraged me. When I was in
the sixth grade, for instance, my science teacher pulled me aside after reading my highly detailed lab report and
said, “You will make a great scientist one day.” This small comment, at an age when many girls start to turn away
from science, has stuck with me.

Years later after that, when I was a Ph. D. student, I encountered a similarly enthusiastic middle school girl,
Sina, who loved black holes. When I asked her to tell me all about them, her response frightened me, “Do you really
want to hear about black holes? Other kids tell me they’re an odd thing for a girl to like.” This led to a lengthy talk,
during which I encouraged her to explore her scientific passions.
The future of science depends on those already in science reaching out to the next generation. Do what you
can to share your knowledge and inspire curiosity. Along the way, you just might improve your own science as
well.
1. Why did the author feel thrilled?
A. She completed her project. B. She sent an email to an expert.
C. She received a fearful package. D. She received a reply from experts.
2. What can we infer about the author from paragraph 3?
A. She dreamed of being a scientist at 6. B. She encouraged girls to study science.
C. She was unsatisfied with her lab reports. D. She was motivated by her science teacher.
3. Why do other kids think Sina is strange as a girl?
A. She enjoys doing strange things. B. She shows interest in black holes.
C. She loves talking about chemistry. D. She wants to experience black holes.
【语篇解读】这是一篇夹叙夹议文。文章通过讲述了作者成长中对自己有积极影响的一些事情,进

五、七选五
I am going to discuss some of the choices available to you and which jobs are best suited to you: popular jobs,
more unusual jobs or everyday jobs.
1 Some jobs may seem dull but are important to society, while others can appear exciting but are
actually difficult and boring. One example is the so-called “cool job” of being a model or an actor. These people
seem to be living a better life than others. Actually, they have to make far greater efforts than ordinary people and
only a few of them are successful. Meanwhile, those who are successful and famous have to deal with constant
media attention. 2
Other popular professions include careers in law or business. Many people have ambitions to become successful
as a lawyer or business person. 3 These can be well-paid and interesting jobs, but you also have to work
long hours.
On the other hand, some people find more unusual jobs suited to their talents and interests. Once I met a young
man whose job was to check noise pollution in a park zone. He loved camping, and his job was like a holiday for
him. 4 There are many other people doing unusual jobs, and they love their jobs, which might not be
popular, but are interesting.
Likewise, many ordinary jobs, such as shopkeepers, drivers and barbers, may look plain, but they are necessary
to society. Without them, we would not go about our daily lives.

在选择职业的时候,应全面考虑这一职业的本身。E项“在选择职业时,你应该考虑工作的各个方
面”符合语境,引出下文。故选E。
2. A 【解析】空处位于段末,应承接上文。根据上文“One example is the so-called “cool job” of being a

greater efforts than ordinary people and only a few of them are successful. Meanwhile, those who are

模特或演员。这些人似乎过着比其他人更好的生活。事实上,他们要比普通人付出更大的努力,只

3. G 【解析】根据上文“Many people have ambitions to become successful as a lawyer or business person.(许

【参考答案】
Dear teacher and classmates,
I am glad to have the chance to talk about my future career. My poor health in my childhood offered me
chances to approach a lot of doctors and their devotion to patients deeply impressed me. Besides, doctors’ great
sacrifices in fighting COVID-19 further pushed me to decide to be a doctor in the future.
Surely I know being a doctor takes great patience and kindness as well as expert skills. This career means a
long-time workday and long-life learning. Sometimes it also means misunderstanding and great risk. So I need to
study hard to be professional and at the same time train myself to be warm-hearted and compassionate.
I hope I can be a good doctor.
Thank you for your listening.
