Passage 3
(2025·安徽芜湖·二模)
By all accounts, 2025 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years for the video game industry in recent memory.
From AAA behemoths like Borderlands 4 to ambitious new titles like 2XKO, there are almost too many exciting new
releases to keep track of.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows by Ubisoft
Release date: March 20    Where to play: Mac, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X
Pretty much for the entire run of the series, Assassin’s Creed fans have had one request: a game set in feudal
Japan. That game, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, originally scheduled to be released in 2024, is finally out in 2025.
You’ll play as two main characters, swapping between the fictional assassin Naoe and the nonfictional samurai
Yasuke. All told, Shadows could be the biggest Assassin’s Creed in years — or the biggest failure. Either way, one
to watch!
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD by Nintendo
Release date: January 16    Where to play: Nintendo Switch
When Donkey Kong Country Returns first came out in 2010, it was the first DK Country game not to involve
Rare, and it came as some relief to fans that this installment of the classic platformer series felt fresh and fun. It may
not be the game you were expecting to get an HD version of, but it’s still worth checking out, especially if you never
had the chance to play it back in 2010.Absolutely, it’s the best game to play with your family during the first month
of the year.
Monster Hunter: Wilds by Capcom
Release date: February 28    Where to play: PlayStation5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X
Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise somehow manages to get both deeper and more approachable with each
entry. Monster Hunter: Wilds is the franchise’s most ambitious adventure yet, with an extended ecosystem that will
feature new monsters to battle, a new mount to further speed up travel, and even greater depth for the series’ trademark
combat. It’s time to embark on a new hunting journey with your fellow hunters.
Split Fiction by Hazelight Studio
Release date: March 6    Where to play: PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X
It’s time to buddy up for another co-op adventure from Hazelight, the studio behind It Takes Two. This time
it’s Split Fiction, which sees a sci-fi and fantasy author getting stuck in virtual reality and undergoing a bunch of
bizarre adventures, including getting turned into pigs who are subsequently turned into hot dogs and cooked on the
grill — though the hot dogs are still playable. Best of all, buying one copy lets two people play together.

B.It is considered fated to be a success.
C.The game is available on all platforms.

Passage 4
(2025·安徽·二模)
In 2024, China’s film industry witnessed remarkable growth, marked by the outpouring of high-quality works.
Rooted in realistic themes, they strike a chord in everyone’s heart. Below are four outstanding films that shone on
the big screen.
Successor
Douban Rating: 7.1
Successor uses dark humor to explore family bonds, education, and personal growth. It follows Ma Chenggang,
who adopts an extreme “poverty training” method to prepare his son for inheriting the family business. Labeled an
“educational horror film”, it not only raises questions about problematic teaching approaches but also makes viewers
reflect on how education shapes children’s lives.
Her Story
Douban Rating: 9.1
Her Story weaves together the life journeys of three women at different stages. It portrays warm daily
interactions between urban men and women while emphasizing the importance of self-love. Directed, written, and
edited by Shao Yihui, the film earned over 200 million yuan in just four days, gaining both huge box office success
and positive word-of-mouth.
Article 20
Douban Rating: 7.5
Article 20, directed by renowned filmmakers Zhang Yimou, is a comedy inspired by Article 20 of China’s
Criminal Law (on self-defense). Starring Lei Jiayin and Ma Li, it tells the story of prosecutor (检察官) Han Min,
who deals with a controversial case while sorting out his own family troubles. The film offers a thought-provoking
look at legal principles and real-life social issues in modern China.
Like a Rolling Stone
Douban Rating: 8.8
Like a Rolling Stone, directed by Yin Lichuan and starring Yong Mei, focuses on women’s self-awareness
and growth. It follows Li Hong, a housewife who sets off on a solo journey amid (在……之中) the dullness of middle
age, rediscovering her self-worth. Its metaphorical (比喻性的) title — rich in cultural and philosophical meaning —
has sparked wide discussions, making it deeply relatable, especially to female viewers.

Passage 1
(2026·安徽马鞍山·二模)
Textbooks don’t always get the appreciation they deserve. Often looked over quickly for assignments or used
only when exams approach, many are quickly forgotten once a course ends. However, some textbooks stand out for
their clearness, usefulness, and ability to make difficult ideas easier to understand. The following selections highlight
textbooks that Stanford students found especially memorable — not because they were required, but because they
genuinely helped learning click into place.
Grad School Essentials by Zachary Shore — Emmett Chung
Shore’s technique of reading the conclusion and introduction before strategically glancing through chapters
makes what would otherwise be time-consuming research much easier.
Intro to Probability by Ellen Vitercik — Allie Skalnik
It’s everything a textbook should be: easy to understand, precise, and full of figures that actually help the
concepts click into place like building blocks instead of merely crowding the page.
The Laws of Thermodynamics by Peter Atkins — Chris Procaccino
Despite its name, Thermodynamics seems to be more of an exercise in proofs than an exercise in
thermodynamics. What’s great about the textbook is that it spends pages defining concepts like temperature and heat
that most other textbooks ignore. What’s not-so-great about it is that it makes a concept seem more complicated than
it needs to be for most general chemistry courses.
Sensation & Perception by Jeremy Wolfe — Chloe Shannon Wong
Curious about what a nerve cell in the eye is? Or why the back of the eye is organized backwards? Check out
Sensation & Perception. In my opinion, this textbook was definitely challenging in some parts, but its clear list of
terms and explanatory diagrams save the day.
1.Why do the four textbooks stand out?
A.They make learning easier.
B.They are designed for examinations.
C.They include assignments.
D.They are used throughout the course.
2.What does Procaccino say about The Laws of Thermodynamics?
A.It suits both beginners and specialists.
B.It provides theoretical proofs.
C.It has both strengths and weaknesses.
D.It offers alternative definitions.
3.Whose book primarily deals with the topic related to biology?
A.Zachary Shore. B.Ellen Vitercik.
C.Peter Atkins.
D.Jeremy Wolfe.

Four facts about humanitarian aid you need to know
Global needs rise as governments cut humanitarian aid greatly. Now is the time to address poverty, conflict
and unrest. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) urges governments to rethink and invest in aid. This funding
shortfall has become the IRC’s greatest obstacle. Here are four facts that show why humanitarian aid matters and
why continued support is critical.
1. Aid cuts cost lives: Millions of people are at risk as some major countries reduce aid for the humanitarian
crises. For people facing war, homelessness, hunger or disease, aid means access to food, clean water, medical care
and shelter.
2. Diseases have been wiped out globally thanks to aid: Humanitarian aid has greatly improved global health. In
the last 30 years, death rates for children under five have dropped by half. Smallpox (天花) has been rooted out, and
polio (小儿麻痹症) cases have dropped by 99%.
Polio cases since 1980 (WHO Data, 1980 - 2025)

2010

3. Humanitarian aid accounts for only a small part of government spending: Quite a few people are concerned
that it takes up a somewhat large share of the national budget-actually less than 1% in most countries. Though the
top donor in total, the U. S. gives only 0.24% of its budget (vs. Norway’s 1% + ), yet these small investments save
lives.
4. The largest humanitarian crisis on record is happening: After two years of civil war, Sudan is now in the
world’s largest humanitarian crisis since records began. Over 30.4 million are in urgent need of humanitarian
assistance.
Stand with the IRC as we are ensuring the people affected by crisis receive the support they need to survive
and rebuild.
1.What is the IRC’s biggest challenge?
A.The spread of diseases.
B.Public concern on aid budget.
C.Governments’ cuts in aid.

Hiking tracks can test you in so many ways. Here're four splendid journeys which you can take to prove
yourself.
Walker's Haute Route, France and Switzerland
This breathtaking, 132-mile hike is generally considered tough. On route, you'll hike rock tracks and carefully
pick your way over High Alpine tracks. There's plenty of variety when it comes to accommodation. Campsites,
mountain houses and mountain-town hotels are all on offer.
Kamnik-Savinja Trail, Slovenia
Apple-picking sections of longer paths are standard practice, and for anyone in search of a short, sharp
challenge the Kamnik-Savinja Alps offer an inviting bite out of the grand 370-mile Slovenian Mountains Track. Book
the mountain houses to be sure of a place to stay each night.
Cape Wrath Trail, Scotland
This two-week walk in Scotland's northwest poses unusual challenges. Route-finding is the most obvious. The
track is unofficial and unmarked despite being hiked for about 30 years. It tests your expedition-planning (远征规
划) skills since many stages end at a basic small house or with wild camping.
Arctic Circle Trail, Norway, Finland & Sweden
Few attempt the 500-mile hike from Kilpisjävri in Finland to Kautokeino in Norway as it's beyond the Arctic
Circle. Even short parts are tough because they're remote. There are small houses on the route, but you may still need
to camp, whether due to space limits or personal choice.
1.What can people do at Walker's Haute Route?
A.Take the longest-distance hike.
B.Choose their preferred housing.
