【词汇用法】
1. worth
作形容词,意为“值得;有……价值的”,与be构成系表结构,常在句中作表语。后可接
名词、代词、数字或动词ing形式。
(1) be worth sth. 值得…
The newly opened museum is certainly worth a visit. 那个新开的博物馆当然值得参观。
worth a visit / the trouble 值得参观 / 麻烦的
The zoo is worth a visit.这家动物园值得参观。
(2)be worth + 钱 值多少钱
The painting is worth 3,000 yuan. 这幅画值3000元。
This watch is worth $30.这块手表值30美元。
(3)sth. be (well) worth doing 某事(很)值得做
(不用be very worth doing)
This book is worth reading.这本书值得一读。
The film Operation Red Sea is well worth seeing.《红海行动》这部电影很值得看。
翻译:武汉大学确实值得参观。Wuhan University is really worth visiting.
2. take off
意为“脱下”,其反义词组为put on(穿上)。它还可以表示“(飞机等)起飞”。
It's too hot outside.Why not take off your coat?外面太热了。为什么不脱掉你的外套呢?
3. manner
n. 方式;方法 (pl.) 礼貌;礼仪
(1)manner作名词,在此处用复数形式,意为“礼貌;礼仪”。good manners意为“有礼
貌”,bad manners意为“没礼貌”。
We all like people with good manners.
(2) manner 作名词,还可意为“方式;方法”。
The problem should be solved in a fair manner.
4. expect
及物动词,意为“预料,盼望”,除了be expected to之外,还有其它用法:
①、expect + n. / pron. 预计……发生;期待某人或某物
I expect a snowstorm. 我预计会有一场暴风雪。
②、expect( sb.) to do sth. 期望(某人)做某事
The old man is expecting his daughter to visit him.这个老人盼望着他女儿的到访。③、expect + 从句 预计 / 料想……
I didn’t expect that you would get there so soon. 我没想到你会这么快就到达那里了。
【重点句型】
1.After class, students are supposed/expected to clean the chalk off the blackboard.
下课后,学生们应该擦掉黑板上的粉笔字。
clean ... off意为“把……擦掉”。
e.g. Can they clean off all these finger marks? 他们能够把这些指痕全部擦掉吗?
Please clean them off. 请把它们擦掉。
拓展:clean up意为“打扫(或清除)干净”。
e.g. Boys and girls, please clean up your desks.同学们,请把你们的书桌收拾干净。
clean out 清理,指把物品从里到外弄干净

pack 可做名词,意思是包裹,背包。
backpack 双肩背包

pack 可作动词,意思是打包,装箱。
Have you packed all of your things? We will leave in one hour. 你把你的行李打包了吗?我
们一个小时后出发。

worth 后接动词时,该动词要用动名词,不能用不定式,并且该动名词习惯上要用主动形
式表示被动意义。

在现代英语中,在 be worth 前使用形式主语 it 被认为是合习惯的,eg:It isn’t worth
repairing the car. 这辆汽车不值得修了。
注意:很值得做某事,表达为 be well worth doing sth.

Breathing in air pollution could change our brain. A new study shows that car
fumes(尾气) can change how parts of our brain connect with other parts.
The research is from the University of British Columbia in Canada. Researchers
found that our brain's connectivity(连接性能) can be changed by car fumes in just two
hours. A researcher, Professor Chris Carlsten, was surprised at what he found. He
said. “For many years,scientists thought the brain may be protected from the effect(影
响) of air pollution. This study is the first of its kind in the world. It provides fresh
evidence(证据)showing a connection between air pollution and ‘thinking’.”
The traffic pollution study was on 25 adults. The researchers asked the adults to
breathe in car fumes in a laboratory. The research team took brain scans(扫描) of the
adults for two hours. The scans showed that the networks(网络) in the brain that we use
for thinking and remembering changed.There were fewer connections between the
networks.
Another professor was worried about the result of the research. She
said,"It's concerning to see traffic pollution having an effect on or even breaking these
networks."The researchers said they needed to do more research to see how car fumes
change our brain. They also advised people to close car windows when in traffic.The
brains of the 25 people returned to normal after they breathed clean air.
