Text 1:
M:Hey,Lily,Ne Zha 2 is on at Star Cinema. How about watching it?
W:Sure,I love Ne Zha.But what time exactly?
M:It starts at seven thirty p.m.We can meet half an hour earlier at the entrance of the
cinema.
W:Okay,I'll leave home at six thirty p.m..See you then.
Text 2:
M:I think I should acquire some legal knowledge,even if I don't plan to be a lawyer.As Dad
wishes me to, it helps protect myself.
W:I agree,Tom.It can also guide you to be an honest citizen.
Text 3:
W:Are you going to watch the Chinese football team's match against Saudi Arabia on March
20th?
M:I wish I could, but it's too far away.I definitely will watch the one against Australia on
the 25th in China. I really hope our Chinese team can win both of these crucial games.
Text 4:
W:Hey,why not come to China? You'll see a whole new world.
M:Sounds interesting.What exactly can I experience there?
W:You can explore ancient temples, taste delicious street food, and feel the variety of Chinese
culture.
M:Great.I'm really looking forward to this trip to China.
Text 5:
M:We've just received your school report. It's looking really good.
W:Thanks,Dad.
M:You've managed to maintain the high grades you got previously, even in biology, which is
great because it's your weakest subject.Music and geography are just as good as usual,of
course
W:Well,they are my favorite subjects.
Text 6:
W:Have you seen how big the influencer thing has gotten lately?
M:Oh yeah,it's all over the place.Influencers seem to be making money super fast.
W:Yeah, but it isn't that simple. They have to keep coming up with cool stuff all the time.
M:Right, and make themselves stand out.So what kind of influencers do you like?
W:I dig those travel tip-sharing ones.Their videos are really cool. What about you?
M:I'm into fitness influencers. They make me want to work out.
W:But some people say influencers just make us buy more stuff.
M:That's true.We should be smart and not just buy whatever they tell us.
Text 7:
M:I'm thinking about applying to study abroad for college.I'm so lost.
W:No kidding. It's a wild ride.First, you have to figure out which country and university. What
subjects are you interested in?
M:Business?I'm eyeing some U.S.universities,but the application process seems too
complicated.
W:Yeah, you'll need to prepare for tests like the SAT or TOEFL, and don't
forget recommendation letters from your teachers.
M:Oh,that sounds like a lot.How about personal statements?
W:Super important.Use them to show your unique self, not just grades.
M:Thanks. This is helping, but the deadlines are stressing me out.
W:Just make a schedule.You'll make it.
Text 8:
W:Hey,Tom,you look really down. What's going on?
M:Oh,Mary,I'm too busy with long-term studies.I've been pulling all-nighters.It makes me so
stressed and depressed.
W:I totally get it.I was in the same boat before. You should try jogging.Just thirty minutes a
day can boost your mood.
M:I don't know.I'm so tired from studying that I can't even get myself out of bed.
W:How about taking a weekend off?Get away to the countryside or mountains.A change of
environment might help.
M:I wish I could, but I have mountains of assignments. There's no way I can spare the time.
W:Then take short study breaks every forty-five minutes.Get up and do some simple
stretches,like touching your toes.
M:That's practical,but I'm still worried it won't be enough.
W:And talk to your classmates, share your feelings. You'll find you're not alone.
M:You're right,but time is always a problem.Anyway,thank you,Mary.
Text 9:
W:Today I have with me Raul Sanchez, who was a student at this college.Ah,how long ago?
M:I was here one and a half,no,two years ago.
W:Now,thank you for answering my call and coming to tell us about the many problems
facing a non-native speaker in a British university. What have you been doing since you
graduated,Raul?
M:I originally wanted to work in advertising, but I found it was too hard. Now I work with a
dentist, making sure that the patients are taken care of and all the necessary tools have been
cleaned and prepared for use.
W:What exactly were the problems when you first arrived at the college?
M:I was very shy.You know,I couldn't communicate with the students in my class because
most of them were British. My English was not very good, but I thought everything was okay
until I received the result of my first examination. My teacher was worried and talked to me.
W:What advice did your teacher give?
M:She suggested that I ask more questions in class,so I made it a rule to ask at least one
or two questions every lesson. Then my English improved much faster.
Text 10:
Hi everyone, today I'd like to share with you my journey into dog rescue.Actually,my journey
happened later in life.Growing up in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania,I never had a dog or cat due to
my mom's llness. My twenties and thirties were spent moving west for my career and really
focusing on that.It wasn't until my late thirties that my husband,Alex, suggested that we get a
dog.We both wanted a big dog and agreed that rescuing one would be best. This was my
first entry into the world of rescue. We spent the next few weeks working with an animal
shelter in Los Angeles to find the perfect dog for us.Finally,Spencer came into our
lives.Because of Spencer,I would go on to volunteer at the animal shelter for the next two
years, and my love for dog rescue developed. After two years of volunteering,I got asked to
be the animal rescue event director.I was fond of this role.Every weekend,I showed off our
little dogs and interacted with the public.I got to celebrate rescuing over two hundred fifty
dogs during my time there,as well as adopting two more "boys"of my own,Junior and
Thor.It is really worthwhile to be at events, meeting the dogs and volunteers and celebrating
as each lucky dog finds their forever home.
