At the tender age of seven, while his friends were spending their allowances on “frivolous” things like candy
and toys, Jose was busy saving money for more essential purchases. To try to get his peers to do the same, the
youngster came up with the innovative idea of an eco-bank, which allows kids of all ages to become economically
independent and financially smart—while also helping the environment.
Established in 2012, The Bartselana Student Bank is the world’s first cooperative bank for kids. Prospective
members have to bring in at least 5 kilograms of solid waste and establish a savings goal. Once accepted, all bank
“partners” are required to deposit (存) at least one additional kilogram of recyclables on a monthly basis and follow
other requirements, such as attending financial education and environmental management workshops.
The waste collected is sold to local recycling companies, who, thanks to some clever negotiation by Jose,
pay a higher-than-market rate for everything brought in by The Bartselana Student Bank members. The funds
received are placed in the individual’s account, where they collect until his/her savings goal is reached. The account
holder can then withdraw his/her money, or choose to leave it and continue to grow for a bigger target.
“At the beginning, some thought I was crazy or that a child could not undertake this type of project,” Jose
recalls. “Luckily, I had the support of the school principal and an assistant in my classroom.” The youngster’s
persistence paid off. Today, the eco-bank, which now has the support of several local institutions, boasts ten
educational centers. They are designed to teach the over 3,000 clients, aged 10-18, to become economically
independent, invest wisely, and help the environment.
Hopefully, Jose’s initiative and success will inspire more kids and adults to come up with innovative ideas
that create value while helping the environment. As the enterprising teenager says, “Together we can change the
world, and we just need an opportunity.”
24.Why did Jose start The Bartselana Student Bank?
A.To prove children can run a business.
B.To contribute to the solid waste recycling.
C.To advocate for money management awareness.
D.To promote financial and environmental responsibility.
25.What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.A novel way to recycle solid waste.
B.Benefits of joining the student bank.
C.The bank’s establishment and history.
D.Membership requirements for the bank.
26.How does Jose’s eco-bank help its members get more money for their waste?
A.By getting donations from local institutions.
B.By partnering with environmental workshops.
C.By bargaining for better prices with recyclers.
D.By storing the waste and waiting for higher prices.
27.Which of the following best describes Jose?
A.Innovative and visionary.
B.Curious and lucky.
C.Independent and humorous.
D.Ambitious and adventurous.
【答案】24.D 25.D 26.C 27.A
To try to get his peers to do the same, the youngster came up with the
innovative idea of an eco-bank, which allows kids of all ages to become economically independent and financially
smart—while also helping the environment.(为了让同龄人也这么做,这个年轻人想出了一个创新的主意——
Established in 2012, The Bartselana Student Bank is the world’s first
cooperative bank for kids. Prospective members have to bring in at least 5 kilograms of solid waste and establish a
savings goal. Once accepted, all bank “partners” are required to deposit ( 存) at least one additional kilogram of

The waste collected is sold to local recycling companies, who, thanks
to some clever negotiation by Jose, pay a higher-than-market rate for everything brought in by The Bartselana
To try to get his peers to do the same, the youngster came up with the

up with innovative ideas that create value while helping the environment.(希望Jose 的倡议和成功能激励更多的
故选A 项。

Yvette Henry was in her kitchen fixing up dinner. So were all four of her kids. Then she remembered a
TikTok video about “living room kids” and “bedroom kids,” and realized she and her husband had built a home
dynamic where their children felt emotionally safe in shared spaces.
A living room kid refers to a child who spends much of their home time in shared spaces such as the living
room, kitchen or dining room. A bedroom kid refers to a child who spends most of their free time in the privacy of
their bedroom. If you’re a parent, pay attention to your children’s needs and what rooms they prefer. There’s
nothing wrong with either.
Parents should feel proud knowing that living room kids feel comfortable and safe when congregating with
family, said Whitney, associate clinical director of the Kids Mental Health Foundation. This sense of safety often
stems from the enjoyment of shared activities, conversations, and simply being around one another. “Indeed, safety
plays a crucial role,” she said. If there’s a lot of family conflict, a child might spend more time in their room to
avoid that stressor.
Children also tend to spend more time in their rooms as they enter their preteen and teenage years, said Dr.
Thomas, a child psychiatrist at Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey. “A teenager will want to be more
independent and feel responsible for themselves, and having a space for themselves in their room allows them to
take control,” he said.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing for children to spend more time in their bedroom, but he said parents should
be cautious if an ordinarily “living room kid” suddenly starts isolating (孤立) in their room. This could be a sign
that there’s something wrong. “Rather than viewing it as ‘living room’ vs ‘bedroom kids,’ the best way to view it is
as a house and make sure that kids feel safe no matter where they are,” Thomas said.
28.Why is Yvette Henry’s story mentioned in the first paragraph?
A.To present a parenting concept.
B.To criticize a common family problem.
C.To introduce a popular social media platform.
D.To highlight the importance of family harmony.
29.What does the underlined word “congregating” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Resting.
B.Gathering.
C.Helping.
D.Sharing.
30.According to Dr. Thomas, what is a driver for teenagers to become “bedroom kids”?
A.The influence of teenage peers.
B.The desire to avoid family conflicts.
C.The need for a sense of independence.
D.The lack of safety in shared family spaces.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.Bedroom kids feel more isolated.
B.Living room kids are mentally healthier.
C.The essence of parenting is learning to let go.
D.Observing changes matters more than labeling.
【答案】28.A 29.B 30.C 31.D
Yvette Henry was in her kitchen fixing up dinner. So were all four of her kids.
Then she remembered a TikTok video about “living room kids” and “bedroom kids,” and realized she and her
husband had built a home dynamic where their children felt emotionally safe in shared spaces.
A living room
kid refers to a child who spends much of their home time in shared spaces such as the living room, kitchen or
dining room. A bedroom kid refers to a child who spends most of their free time in the privacy of their bedroom.
Yvette
故选A 项。
A living room kid refers to a child who spends much of their home time in
shared spaces such as the living room, kitchen or dining room.
Parents should feel proud knowing that living
room kids feel comfortable and safe when congregating with family
This sense of safety often stems from the enjoyment of
shared activities, conversations, and simply being around one another.
A teenager will want to be more independent and feel responsible for
themselves, and having a space for themselves in their room allows them to take control
It’s not necessarily a bad thing for children to spend more time in their
bedroom, but he said parents should be cautious if an ordinarily “living room kid” suddenly starts isolating (孤立)
in their room. This could be a sign that there’s something wrong. “Rather than viewing it as ‘living room’ vs
‘bedroom kids,’ the best way to view it is as a house and make sure that kids feel safe no matter where they are,”
Thomas said.

Although photovoltaic (光伏电池) cells and wind turbines (涡轮机) were invented almost 150 years ago,
they still generate only 7% of the world’s electricity today. This might appear to show limited progress.
Nevertheless, the situation is changing rapidly: over the past decade, these renewable technologies have grown
faster than any other energy source, as their costs continue to fall and make them competitive with fossil fuels. BP,
an energy enterprise, expects renewables to account for half of the growth in global energy supply over the next 20
years. It is no longer hard to believe that the world is entering an era of clean, unlimited and cheap power, where
society could rely less on polluting fossil fuels and more on sustainable energy sources.
However, there is a $20 trillion hitch. In the coming decades, huge amounts of investment will be needed to
replace old polluting power plants, upgrade outdated infrastructure (基础设施), and improve the power lines that
deliver electricity reliably to homes and businesses.
Normally investors enjoy putting their money into electricity because it brings reliable returns. Yet green
energy has a dirty secret. The more it is used, the more it drives down the price of electricity from all sources. That
makes it difficult to manage the transition to a carbon-free future, when many kinds of power generation, both
clean and dirty, need to remain profitable. Unless the market is fixed, subsidies ( 补贴) to the industry will only
grow.
Policymakers are beginning to see this problem as a reason to slow down the use of renewable energy. In
some parts of Europe and China, investment in renewables is falling because subsidies have been reduced.
However, the answer is not to use less wind and solar power, but to rethink how clean energy is priced so that it can
be used more effectively, maintain profitability for energy providers, and contribute fully to a sustainable, low-
carbon energy future.
32.What do we know about renewable energy according to the first paragraph?
A.Its costs are still higher than fossil fuels.
B.It faces no financial or market challenges.
C.It generates most of the world’s electricity.
D.It is growing fastest and becoming cheaper.
33.What does the underlined word “hitch” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Delay.
B.Problem.
C.Plan.
D.Advantage.
34.Why does the transition to a carbon-free future become difficult?
A.Green energy increases the overall cost of electricity generation.
B.Falling prices make many types of power generation unprofitable.
C.Investors are no longer putting their money into the electricity industry.
D.Subsidies for green energy are no longer available from the government.
35.How can green energy be used more effectively?
A.By updating its generating technologies.
B.By increasing subsidies for green energy.
C.By setting reasonable prices for clean energy.
D.By encouraging more investment in the market.
Nevertheless, the situation is changing rapidly: over the past decade, these
renewable technologies have grown faster than any other energy source, as their costs continue to fall and make
them competitive with fossil fuels.
In the coming decades, huge amounts of investment will be needed to
replace old polluting power plants, upgrade outdated infrastructure (基础设施), and improve the power lines that
deliver electricity reliably to homes and businesses.
The more it is used, the more it drives down the price of electricity from all
sources. That makes it difficult to manage the transition to a carbon-free future, when many kinds of power
generation, both clean and dirty, need to remain profitable.
However, the answer is not to use less wind and solar power, but to rethink
how clean energy is priced so that it can be used more effectively, maintain profitability for energy providers, and
contribute fully to a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.

We’ve all been there after a long trip — staring blankly at emails, counting the hours until bed. Yet when 2
a.m. hits, you’re still wide awake, mindlessly looking through social media, trapped in the control of jet lag. 36
Our internal clock governs everything from sleep to digestion to hormones ( 激素分泌) and uses light to
maintain its natural 24-hour cycle. But when we land in a new time zone, and day suddenly turns to night, this
rhythm is thrown off balance. 37 But scientists have found ways to help our bodies keep up. Even
reducing jet lag by a day can improve the productivity and well-being of so many people.
The best strategy? Tricking yourself into a new rhythm before travel. 38 For example,
Timeshifter, an app developed by a neuroscientist and his team, suggests a personalized schedule for light exposure
and sleep based on flight arrangements.
39 While the brain is our master clock, other tissues like the liver and muscles have their own
clocks that regulate metabolism (新陈代谢), the body’s process of turning food into energy. That is, meal timing
and composition could also be key to reducing jet lag.
In reality, there are lots of things that come into play. 40 While we don’t yet have a way to
comprehensively avoid jet lag, at least researchers and airlines aren’t asleep on the job in their hunt for a cure.
A.A complete cure for jet lag is unlikely to find.
B.So how can we deal with the annoying jet lag?
C.That’s the price for crossing time zones too fast.
D.There are some tools to help with this, of course.
E.Meanwhile, different people have different rhythms.
F.The key to the trick is to manage your light exposure.
G.However, jet lag isn’t just about light exposure and sleep.
【答案】36.C 37.A 38.D 39.G 40.E
36.上文“Yet when 2 a.m. hits, you’re still wide awake, mindlessly looking through social media, trapped in the
control of jet lag.
C 选项 “That’s the price for
crossing time zones too fast.
37.上文“But when we land in a new time zone, and day suddenly turns to night, this rhythm is thrown off
balance.
A 选项“So how can we deal with the annoying jet lag?
故选A 项。
38.上文“The best strategy? Tricking yourself into a new rhythm before travel.
For example, Timeshifter, an app developed
by a neuroscientist and his team, suggests a personalized schedule for light exposure and sleep based on flight
arrangements.
D 选项“There are some tools to help with this,
of course.
39.下文“While the brain is our master clock, other tissues like the liver and muscles have their own clocks that
regulate metabolism ( 新陈代谢), the body’s process of turning food into energy. That is, meal timing and
composition could also be key to reducing jet lag.(虽然大脑是我们体内总的主时钟,但像肝脏和肌肉等其他组
G 选项 “However, jet lag isn’t just about light exposure and sleep.
40.上文“In reality, there are lots of things that come into play.
While we don’t yet have a way to comprehensively avoid jet lag, at least
researchers and airlines aren’t asleep on the job in their hunt for a cure.
“Meanwhile, different people have different rhythms.

My mother was the most horrible cook, unbelievably bad at it.
Her problem was the lack of 41 — far from being bad, she thought she was 42 . But
underneath that, it was a set of misunderstandings, any one of which would have been enough to make you 43

A. self-discipline 自律;B. self-knowledge 自知之明;C. self-respect 自尊;D. self-pity 自怜。根据后
文“far from being bad, she thought she was 2 .”

A. rush 冲;B. hate 讨厌;C. need 需要;D. expect 期望。
B. ruined
根据前文“ She thought everything could be” 和后文“She was

A. boasted 吹嘘;B. worried 担心;C. figured 料想,认为;D. criticized 批评。
A. think of 想起;B. come across 偶然遇见;C. argue with 与……争论;D. call upon

。A. company 公司;B.
根据“nobody”和后文“I don’t even like”可推知,作者
。A. treats 款待;B. candy

made a lot of things with apples, and I’ve eaten vast amounts of food that are apple-associated”可知,作者不得不
A. season 季节;B.

Throughout the ages, Chinese women have different ways to make them look more beautiful. Compared
with the modern, ancient women had 56 (few) kinds of makeup. But they still had their own set of
“secret weapons”.
57 (believe) to have originated during the Spring and Autumn Period, facial powder was one of the
most basic forms of makeup. In order to make their skin look white, ancient people directly applied highly toxic
lead powder to the face. Rouge, powder used 58 (color) the lips or cheeks, can date back to the Shang
dynasty. Lipstick is another popular beauty enhancement product since the pre-Qin dynasty, 59 color in
ancient China was mostly red to make women look more youthful and energetic.
Chinese women have always paid great attention to their eyebrows as they believe that this facial feature
60 (link) to their fate. The beauty-loving women first used burnt willow branches 61 eyebrow pens.
Later, they grinded Dai (黛), a kind of mineral with a dark blue color, into powder and then added water to mix.
There were dozens of popular eyebrow shapes during the Tang dynasty. The arched and thin eyebrow, 62
(resemble) a willow leaf, was trendy then as it was regarded as 63 symbol of elegance.
The aesthetic standards of ancient people were different from 64 of us now, and modern popular
makeup is also different from traditional Chinese makeup, but the unchangeable 65 (pursue) of beauty
has been around for thousands of years.
56.fewer 57.Believed 58.to color 59.whose 60.is linked 61.as 62.resembling
63.a 64.those 65.pursuit
Compared with the
to color。
is。故填is linked。
use sth. as sth.
as 为介词。故填as。
The arched and thin eyebrow 与resemble“像,类似于”之间为主动
故填a。
故填those。

Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m writing to share my ideas for the International Culture Exhibition’s opening ceremony. I believe this
event will greatly enhance our cultural awareness.
Firstly, I suggest organizing cultural performances, such as traditional dances and songs from different
countries. These performances can vividly showcase cultural diversity. Secondly, we could set up interactive booths
where students can experience foreign customs firsthand. These activities will not only entertain but also educate.
The performances will demonstrate cultural beauty, while the booths will promote mutual understanding through
direct participation.
Thank you for considering my ideas. I’m confident these activities will make the exhibition both educational
and memorable.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

On the morning of his 1, 500-meter race at the 1968 Games, the determined runner Kip Keino of Kenya
found himself in a rather awful situation. He was seated in the backseat of a somewhat shabby taxi, making his way
to the Olympic Stadium in the bustling city of Mexico City.
He was understandably worried. The city was in the grip of a massive traffic congestion. Everywhere he
looked, there were traffic jams stretching as far as the eye could see. The honking(按喇叭)of horns filled the air,
creating a chaotic symphony. His taxi, a small vehicle amidst the sea of larger cars, buses, and other taxis, was
barely inching forward.
Keino, with a furrowed brow, kept looking ahead at the long line of cars, buses, and taxis in front of him.
The vehicles were bumper-to-bumper, and the drivers seemed frustrated, some impatiently drumming their fingers
on the steering wheels.
It was an hour before his race, and he took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. As time ticked away, it
became fifty minutes, and he could feel a sense of unease creeping up on him. The taxi moved a few more meters,
but the progress was extremely slow. Forty minutes passed, and he started to tap his foot nervously on the floor of
the taxi. The traffic showed no signs of letting up. Then, it was twenty minutes before the race. Keino’s heart began
to pound a bit faster. He could see people on the sidewalks, some of them wearing Olympic-themed clothing,
walking towards the stadium with excited expressions. Meanwhile, he was still stuck in the traffic.
Finally, it was only ten minutes before the start of the race. And to his disappointment, the taxi was still a full
2 kilometers from the stadium. Considering the current traffic situation, the distance seemed almost impossible to
cover. What’s worse, earlier that morning, even before getting into the taxi, he had been worried that the pain in his
stomach might affect his performance.

One possible version:
Version 1:
After a moment’s thought, however, Keino made a decision. He could not afford to wait any longer. Paying
the fare, he flung the door open and began sprinting through the stagnant sea of vehicles. His stomach tightened
with a familiar, sharp pain, but he gritted his teeth and pushed forward, weaving between cars and dodging
surprised pedestrians. His breathing was labored, not just from the effort, but from the anxiety of potentially
missing the race of his life. The honking horns faded into a dull roar, replaced by the pounding of his own heart and
the rhythm of his frantic footsteps on the pavement.
When Keino hurriedly ran into the stadium, other players were ready for the race. They were already in their
lanes, performing final stretches, their faces masks of concentration. A murmur of surprise rippled through the
crowd as Kenyan, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, rushed onto the track. Keino’s chest heaved, his
stomach ached, but as he stood on the track, a strange calm settled over him. The chaotic journey was over. Now,
there was only the race. The starter’s pistol cracked, and Keino launched himself forward, his late arrival fueling a
fierce, almost desperate energy.
Version 2:
After a moment’s thought, however, Keino made a decision. He couldn’t wait any longer. Leaving some
money to the driver, he opened the door and sprang into action. He began to run, not a jog but a determined sprint,
weaving through the crowded sidewalks. The sharp, familiar pain in his stomach flared up with each step, but he
gritted his teeth and pushed forward. The vibrant city became a blur as he focused on the distant stadium. His
breathing was labored in the high-altitude air, yet his mind was clear: he had to make it to the starting line. This
two-kilometer dash was an unplanned, painful prelude to his real race, a test of his will even before the competition
began.
When Keino hurriedly ran into the stadium, other players were ready for the race. He arrived just in time,
breathless and sweating. With no time to warm up, he quickly pinned on his number and took his place on the track.
The gun fired, and the race was on. His main rival, the top favorite, set a fierce pace. For most of the race, Keino
clung on, battling the piercing pain in his stomach. Then, on the final lap, something incredible happened. Drawing
upon a deep reserve of spirit, he surged ahead with a powerful kick, leaving his competitors behind. He crossed the
finish line first, not just winning the gold medal but also setting a new Olympic record. His victory that day became
a timeless lesson: that the greatest triumphs are not merely over opponents on the track, but over the obstacles
within and the circumstances without, reminding us that a champion’s heart can turn any moment of despair into a
defining moment of glory.
