Passage 1
(2025 届江苏省苏锡常镇高三下学期一模)Mrs. Thompson, a retired teacher, was well-known for her
insightful advice and genuine willingness to help others. Many high school students often turned to her for
guidance and as her neighbor, me included.
One afternoon, feeling troubled and uncertain about my future after a disappointing exam, I decided to knock
on Mrs. Thompson’s door.
“I don’t know what I’m doing with my life,” I admitted, my eyes fixed on the floor. “It feels like everyone
else has it all figured out, and I’m just stuck.” My voice trembled with sadness and a hint of fear.
I had bombed my last math test, and it felt like that failure stayed in every corner of my mind, increasing my
anxiety about college examination and what I might want to pursue. While my friends seemed to advance
effortlessly through their studies, I was struggling to stay afloat. The feeling that I was falling behind only deepened
my sense of hopelessness.
Mrs. Thompson listened carefully, her face a picture of calm and understanding. Without saying much, she
handed me a small tomato seedling( 苗) in a pot. The tiny plant ,with its delicate green leaves, seemed to
symbolize a slight sign of hope.
“Let’s plant this in the garden,” she said gently. “Water it every day and make sure it gets enough sunlight.
But for a whole week, don’t focus on its progress. Just trust that it’s growing.”
Every day, I faithfully watered the little seedling, as if I was putting my own hopes into it.I carefully ensured
it got the right amount of sunlight, positioning it just so under the sun’s rays. With great self-control, I resisted the
urge to examine it too closely. As the days went by, I felt a mix of eagerness and impatience, like a child waiting for
a long-promised gift, longing to see some sign that my efforts were making a difference.

Passage 2
(2025 届安徽省“江南十校”高三下学期一模)Encouraged by my parents, I have always considered
exercise part and parcel of my life. In my primary school years, I regarded exercise as a source of fun. As I entered
my secondary school years, exercise started to be more than mere enjoyment. I started learning Muay Thai(泰拳) at
a gym near my school. Exercising through Muay Thai became a way of relaxation. As I trained regularly, the hours
spent kicking and punching(拳击) sandbags boosted my mood so that I would not experience anxiety and stress.
A particular experience at the Muay Thai gym one day, however, made me realize how important exercise
was to my life, going beyond fun and relaxation. It was nearing the exam season, and many students were rushing
to absorb as much last-minute information as possible. I had not gone to the gym for two weeks by then, busy
preparing for the exams. There was an air of tension and anxiety. I was particularly upset that my recent maths
revision was not going well, as I was getting many questions wrong in the practice papers given out by my teacher.
I started feeling that I was not improving, and that I was meant to fail. I poured my worries to my trainer on the
phone and he joked he had a trick up his sleeves. So I decided to head to the gym.
Despite starting off unsatisfactorily, my punches and kicks soon were on the right track. The moves of my
kicks fueled me to be sharper and more precise in my techniques. Punching the sandbags was done accurately and
swiftly as I maintained my power and form. Time flew, and an hour’s session felt like a mere 15 minutes. I was
surprised to realize my frustration melted away once I put on my gloves.

Passage 3
(2025 届河北省沧州市五县联考高三下学期一模)In a small town in Thailand, there lived a 14-year-old
girl named Nisa. She was born with a physical disability that left her with a limp(跛行), but she had a heart full of
love and filial piety(孝心)。
Nisa’s life had been filled with challenges from the start. She was born with a physical disability. To make
matters worse, Nisa’s mother passed away when she was young, leaving her and her father to depend on each other.
Her father had worked tirelessly ever since, taking on multiple jobs to make ends meet and provide for Nisa. He
had been her rock, always there to support and encourage her, despite the difficulties they faced. However, her
father suddenly fell seriously ill. The medical expenses were like a huge mountain that the family could not afford.
Now, with him lying sick in bed, Nisa felt a deep sense of responsibility to step up and help.
One day, she heard about a local marathon that offered a significant cash prize to the winners. She was filled
with a mixture of hope and fear. As a disabled girl, she wondered if she could succeed. The possibilities of failing
and getting hurt made her anxious. However, when she saw her sick father, she recalled the care he had given her.
She said to herself, “I must try, for him I can face any odds.” Thus, with firm resolve, she readied for the challenge.
On the day of the marathon, Nisa showed up at the starting line with her crutches(拐杖). People around her
were surprised, but she was determined. As the race began, she moved forward slowly but steadily. Along the way,
many people cheered for her and offered her water and words of encouragement. Nisa felt the warmth and kindness
from strangers. However, the rough road made it hard for her to maintain balance with her crutches. Her legs and

Passage 4
(2025 届河北省邢台市名校协作高三下学期一模)The Christmas season could only really begin once my
grandparents arrived for their annual December visit. The moment they pulled into our driveway, our home would
light up with their love and delight in spending time with their family.
Grandma, in particular, made the season more joyful. She’d sing Christmas songs as she wrapped gifts and
addressed her hand-painted cards. We would bake chocolate cookies and read stories in front of the Christmas tree.
On Christmas Eve, we’d sing Silent Night on the ride home from church.
Years passed, and Grandma shared our traditions with my three children, her great-grandchildren. They
learned how to make chocolate cookies from her. They read the same Christmas stories, sitting on Grandma’s lap.
As for us, Grandma was always positive and her presence assured us that everything would be OK. She kept
telling us that she would always be with us.
However, in February 2019, 90-year-old Grandma was diagnosed with a serious illness. In April, her health
went from bad to worse quickly. I knew it was time to say goodbye, but I was unwilling to accept what was
happening — I was afraid of losing Grandma and I couldn’t imagine the following Christmas seasons without her.
In May 2019, I had to say goodbye to Grandma. She wasn’t able to speak or respond, but I could tell she was
listening. I said, “Grandma, send me a sign that you’ re with us.”
Months went by, I hadn’t seen any sign — I knew there wouldn’t be any.
Soon, the Christmas season arrived, and I had almost forgotten about watching for Grandma’s sign. But my
family and I felt a sense of emptiness in the season without her. We tried baking chocolate cookies, but they turned
out flat and didn’t taste good enough. We sang Silent Night, but it sounded off-key. The Christmas season flew by
without a moment of enjoying our family holiday traditions.
On Christmas Eve day, I saw our mail carrier deliver a dozen of cards to our mailbox, but I was busy with
preparations before Christmas. “I’ll collect them tomorrow,” I thought.

Passage 5
(2025·山东日照·一模)It was the summer of 2019, and I was part of a team of eight climbers attempting to
reach the top of Mount Rainier in Washington State. We had been training for over a year, preparing for the
physical and mental challenges of the climb. Our team, composed of experienced mountaineers and a few beginners
like myself, had grown close during our training sessions. We relied on each other for support, encouragement, and
motivation. If someone was struggling, the rest of us would step in to help, whether it was carrying extra sports
equipment or offering words of encouragement.
The first two days of the climb went smoothly. We made good progress, reaching Camp Muir at 10,000 feet
without any major issues. The weather was perfect, and our spirits were high. On the third day, we began our push
for the peak. The plan was to start early in the morning, around 2 a.m., to take advantage of the colder, firmer snow.
We roped up and began the climb, each of us focused on the task at hand.
As we approached Disappointment, Cleaver, a steep and dangerous section of the climb, the weather began
to change. The wind picked up, and the temperature dropped significantly. We could barely see more than a few
feet in front of us because of the dense fog, and the snow underfoot became unstable. Despite the challenging
conditions, we carried on, determined to reach the peak.
Then, disaster struck. One of our team members, Sarah, lost her footing and slipped. The force of her fall
pulled the rest of us off balance, and we all fell, sliding down the slope(斜坡). I felt a sharp pain in my leg as I hit a
rock, and I knew immediately that something was wrong. The rest of the team quickly regained their footing and
managed to stop our slide, but I was unable to stand.

Passage 6
(2025·山东聊城·一模)On a dark stormy night, Lucy dressed in a bright yellow raincoat covered in dirty mud
was sitting on her house step, waiting for her mom to come home. After she waited for an hour, she became scared.
She could hear noises that made her feel lonelier and more abandoned. Various horrible thoughts rolled through her
head. She thought her mom didn’t want her anymore and had left her to fend for( 照料) herself. She thought that
something might have happened to her that would affect her life forever. Suddenly she saw lights from a car. Her
face lit up but as soon as she saw the car clearly, she realized it wasn’t her mom’s car.
However, the car was heading straight for her. She was so afraid of being abducted(诱拐) by someone that
she started to scream. She had heard so many stories from her teacher that had terrified her. Her teacher told her
what happened to so many people who were abducted. She didn’t want to be one of those people. She began to
think about all the wonderful times she had spent with her mom. In the meantime, she began to think of what she
had said to her before she left that morning. She had said that she was the worst mom and that she never wanted to
see her or talk to her again in her life. How she wished she had never said any of those horrible words to her mom.
As the car came closer and closer she began to cry and realized that this might be the last time she ever saw
her family again. As the mysterious figure got out of the car, she couldn’t see the person’s face because it was so

Passage 7
(2025·山东德州·一模)I had always wanted a dog since young. My parents were against the idea, saying that
taking care of a dog was a lifetime commitment.
On my tenth birthday, Father stepped into the house and announced, “Nancy, you have a new puppy!” I
shouted in delight and ran towards Father, only to find it was a toy puppy. My face fell. I turned away. Father
explained, “This is a ‘Think-It-Over’ puppy. You should try taking care of it before deciding about a real dog.”
The puppy did look like a real dog from a distance and it even had a dog smell. Inside its body was a
computer programmed to make barking sounds. Father handed me a key, which could be stuck into its back to stop
its barking. I accepted the puppy, which I named Friday since it was Friday that day.
That evening, my friends and I decided to take Friday to a dog café. It was freezing cold, so I wrapped it in a
blanket as if it were a real dog. The computer inside could tell if someone treated it badly, like shaking or not caring
for it, and I did not want that recorded.
Having waited in line, we finally got a table. The waiter, not knowing I was carrying a false puppy, asked
attentively if I would need a basket with cushion. I told him, “Oh, it’s not a real puppy, but...” Before I could finish
my sentence, he gave me an unpleasant look, turned and served other diners who were right there to play with the
café’s dogs. I might have seemed unusual to him. During our meal, my friends and I received strange looks from
the other dog owners in the café. We ignored them and continued with our own conversation.
After dinner, we went to a nearby shopping mall, where customers were selecting their favorites. My friends were
looking at clothes, but I couldn’t. The puppy I was carrying was becoming increasingly heavy. Extremely tired of
Friday, I put it down in a corner and just wandered around, seeking clothes I could try on.

Passage 8
(2025·山东临沂·一模)I couldn’t believe the offer I was reading. “Yes, I’d love to do your TV show,” I typed.
Months before this e-mail conversation, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to have asked for the opportunity.
My complicated journey began as I undertook a nearly impossible mission to recreate my father-in-law’s
military history. All his records were gone and the Army records center in St. Louis, Missouri, had suffered a fire,
destroying Dad’s records. I wanted to fill in the blanks for him, but Dad was no longer with us. After he died, in his
bedroom my husband George found a small, worn box. “What is that?” I asked him. “A pocket watch that Dad
carried through his time in the Army during World War II,” he answered. “Wow! It is special,” I responded. “More
than you know. Dad gave it to me before I left for basic training in 1961. I carried it during my tour of duty.” Tears
shone in his eyes. Later, our son-in-law was sent to the front line. He was the third in line to receive the pocket
watch.
Meanwhile, after a full year of research, with the help of survivors who served with Dad, Iwas able to gather
all his missing Army records. I thought my mission was completed. When our son-in-law returned home, having
survived a fierce battle, he returned the pocket watch to us in an emotional account of how it had saved his life. The
recreation of Dad’s military history now had another amazing story within it. Over fifty years, three generations of
service members had carried the same pocket watch.
I held the newly returned military pocket watch in my hands and said, “If only you could talk.” Then, I had
an idea. Maybe I could be the voice of it and make it an narrator of the story. Eight years later, Guiding Pocket
Watch was published, a historical novel evolving from digging into Dad’s military history. Writing a book is hard
work, but it’s only the first step for me. Marketing and publicity are equally difficult. My family and friends
encouraged me to promote Guiding Pocket Watch through the media, such as newspapers, magazines, TV shows,
etc.

Passage 9
(2025·河南安阳·一模)I flew through the back door, excitedly announcing to my mom, “Mom, I’ve been
nominated (提名) for the National Junior Honor Society!” My mother smiled with pride and replied, “I’m so proud
of you, honey.”
Together in the family room, I began filling out the application for the Honor Society. It required proof of
possessing all the necessary candidate characteristics. The following day, I submitted the paperwork to my advisor
and didn’t give it much further thought.
Months passed, and one afternoon, as soon as I stepped off the bus, I rushed home with a letter from the
school regarding the Honor Society. “Mom,” I said, handing her the letter with tears welling up in my eyes, “I
didn’t make it. They didn’t choose me.” My mother hugged me and said, “Oh, honey, I’m sorry. There must have
been some kind of mistake.”
That night at dinner, I said sadly, “It’s not fair.” My mother agreed and then shared a story about her high
school friend who was intelligent and kind-hearted but never made the National Honor Society. Despite his hurt and
anger, he became a world-renowned lung cancer specialist, saving lives every day.
I grasped my mom’s message: not being part of the Honor Society wouldn’t define my future, but it was
certainly painful in the moment. However, seeing most of my friends get selected made those weeks especially
tough for me. I opened up to my parents about how difficult it was and declared, “This shouldn’t happen to anyone
else.” We brainstormed ways to improve the selection process and arranged a meeting with the school principal(校

Passage 10
(2025 届湖北省圆创联考高三下学期第一次模拟英语试题)On Sunday, Mike and his mother Rose went to
Grandma Alondra’s house for lunch. Alondra had prepared Mike’s favorite meal. “Mike’s school prom(舞会) is
approaching, Mum,” Rose told Alondra. “Do you still have that tailor’s contact who owned that old shop in town? I
want to get a suit tailored for Mike.” “Oh! I do! ” Alondra laughed. “So, Mike, who’s going to be your date?” she
asked. “Nobody. I haven’t found anyone. So, I might not go,” Mike said, his eyes fixed on his phone.
Alondra said, “You kids are so lucky to have the prom and everything. I’ve never gone to one! ” “Really,
Mum?” Rose asked with a surprised look. “Well, yes. But that’s an old, old story! Let’s not go there, ” Alondra said.
“The thing is, Mike, you should definitely go and have a good time. ”
It was then that Rose had an idea. She asked Mike to take Alondra as his date to the prom. Mike disliked the
idea. As a teenager, and as the most popular boy at school, he didn’t want to take his grandmother to the prom. He
was afraid the other students would laugh at him. However, he couldn’t find a reason to turn this down. Not a single
one. Most importantly, he loved Alondra.
So, on the afternoon of prom day, Mike and Rose drove to Alondra’s house. When the older woman opened

Passage 1
(2025 届安徽省示范高中皖北协作区高三下学期一模)Last summer, I decided to take a road trip with my
best friend, Alex. We had been planning this trip for months, and finally, the day came. We were going to drive
from our hometown to the beach, a journey that would take us through beautiful landscapes and small towns. We
packed our bags, filled the car with snacks, and set off early in the morning, excited for the adventure ahead.
Everything was going perfectly until we reached a small town. It was late in the afternoon, and we were both
getting tired. We decided to stop to stretch our legs. As we pulled into a parking lot, I noticed a man standing by the
side of the road, holding a sign that read, “Car trouble. Need help.” I glanced at Alex, who shrugged and said,
“Maybe we should help him. It looks like he’s been there for a while.” I nodded in agreement.
We walked over and offered to help. The man, whose name was Luis Thompson, looked defeated. His
forehead was wrinkled with worry, and his eyes were filled with a mix of desperation and exhaustion. He explained
that his car had broken down quite suddenly. One moment he was driving smoothly, and the next, there was a loud
clunking noise coming from under the hood(引擎罩). When he pulled over to check, he was met with a cloud of
steam billowing out. He had opened the hood, but he was completely at a loss. The engine was a confusing mess of
parts to him. To make matters worse, he didn’t have the tools to even begin to attempt a repair.
Alex, who was good with cars, took a look and said he might be able to help, but we would need to get some

Passage 2
(2025 届河北省部分重点高中高三下学期调研考试)In the quiet town of Millbrook, a 12-year-old boy
named Jesse was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive disease. The doctors delivered the sad news that he had only
a few months to live. His parents, Davis and Rebecca, were heartbroken and felt helpless. They spent countless
hours searching for any possible treatment or experimental therapy that could save their son, but nothing seemed
promising. The weight of despair hung heavily over their household.
One day, Jesse’s best friend, Tyler, visited him with a ray of hope. Tyler had heard a legend about a
miraculous(神奇的) spring located deep in the nearby forest. According to the tale, the water from this spring
possessed the power to cure any illness, no matter how severe, Jesse, though naturally skeptical, was willing to try
anything to extend his life and make the most of his remaining days. He shared the idea with his other close friends,
Mia and Alex, who immediately offered their support.
Mia, a bright and resourceful girl, researched the legend and found old maps and historical records that
might lead them to the spring. Alex, a tech-savvy boy, used his computer skills to gather more information and plan
their journey.
Together, the four friends decided to find the spring. They knew it would be a challenging and dangerous
journey, but they were determined to give Jesse a fighting chance. They packed supplies, including food, water, and
a first-aid kit, and set out early one morning.
The forest was thick and unfamiliar, with winding paths and hidden dangers. They went through thick
underbrush, crossed swift streams, and climbed steep hills. Along the way, they encountered various difficulties,
from poisonous snakes to dangerous terrain.
As they journeyed deeper into the forest, the friends bonded over their shared goal and the memories they
were creating. Jesse found moments of joy and laughter, feeling a sense of purpose that he hadn’t experienced for a
long time. Mia’s leadership and Alex’s problem-solving skills proved invaluable, and Tyler’s constant support kept

Passage 3
(2025 届河北省承德市、张家口市高三下学期一模)Rita had always loved dogs. As a child, her family had
a dog, a faithful companion she adored. But one day, the dog went missing, and despite all their efforts to find it,
they never saw it again. That heartbreak left a lasting mark on Rita, making her particularly sensitive to the safety
of stray(无主的) or lost animals.
One sunny afternoon, Rita was driving home from work when something unusual caught her eye. Near a
small auto repair shop on the side of the road, she saw a Golden Retriever(金毛寻回犬) sitting by itself. The dog
looked dirty, with oil marks on its fur. There was no one nearby, and the dog had no collar visible. Rita’s heart sank.
“Could this dog be lost?” she wondered, her thoughts flashing back to her childhood and the pain of losing her own
dog.
She drove past the dog, but couldn’t stop worrying about what might happen to it. “What if it gets hit by a
car?” she thought. “Or worse, what if someone takes it for the wrong reasons?” At the next crossing, Rita turned her
car around and drove back to where the dog was.
When she arrived, the dog was still there, sitting quietly and looking around as if waiting for someone. Rita
parked her car and approached it slowly. “Hey there,” Rita knelt down and said softly. The dog wagged (摇) its tail.
It seemed gentle and trusting. “Come with me,” Rita called. She opened the car door, and the dog jumped in, As she
drove, the dog occasionally looked out of the window, barking softly as if calling for someone.
Back at home, Rita gave the dog a bath, washing away the dirt and oil. Then she took a short video of the
dog, explaining where she had found it, and posted it on her social media accounts. She wrote, “I found it near the

(2025 届江苏省南通市如皋市高三下上学期适应性考试(一))At this festive time of the year when
November turns to December and Christmas approaches, an incident from the past surfaces in my mind, a moment
that inspired me to always seek out opportunities to lend a helping hand.
It was nearly twenty years ago, a period when my children were still in their teenage years full of vitality and
constantly evolving preferences. I had grown tired of attempting to predict their Christmas wishes, so each year, we
took a long car trip to a Shopping Mall. There, I gave them each an envelope stuffed with cash, allowing them to
choose exactly what their hearts desired: This specific year, I had thoughtfully saved an extra hundred dollars,
intending to treat myself to a few gifts. However, as I walked the length of the Mall, I found myself unable to find
anything that truly resonated(产生共鸣) with me.
As we finally climbed into the car, ready to depart, I started the engine and began navigating towards the
main road. It was then, amidst the hum of traffic and the glow of streetlights, that I caught sight of her — a
homeless woman standing by the roadside. She looked much older than her age. She was dressed in a torn,
threadbare coat. er gray hair was tangled(缠结) and clumped together in a messy mass. Her face was chapped(皲裂
的) from the winter wind. But the thing that struck me most was her eyes. She had the saddest eyes that I had ever
seen.
“Mom, look at that lady,” one of my children said softly, her voice tinged with concern.

Passage 5
(2025 福建龙岩市2025 年高中毕业班三月教学质量检测)Katie’s dad works on a ferry. All spring and
summer he brings home stories about The Pirate, a wharf( 船坞、码头) cat. Through her dad’s tales, Katie has
come to respect this wild creature who takes delight in troubling dogs, kills wharf rats, and battles a seagull over
possession of a piling near the wharf.
One pleasant fall night, after a week of cold and rain, Dad brought the poor injured cat home and said that he
needed some care and a warm place to recover.
Although Mom isn’t fond of pets she finds some soft rags to put around him. The next morning, he was awake
when I stepped into the kitchen. Without raising his head, he curled up his lip and hissed ( 发出咝咝声) at me.
“Stay away from him,” Mom ordered. “A pet he isn’t. You’d think he’d be a little more appreciative.” I took over
preparing his food. The hissing lessened, but he never took his eyes off us, and his expression certainly did not say
thank you.
The next time I fed him, I brought a book, and after putting down the food, I sat on the far side of the porch
and started reading. That cat glared at me, but I ignored him. After almost half an hour, he began to slip out. I kept
reading, and soon I could hear him eating the fish.
The next day, it took ten minutes for him to come out, and the day after that, only three minutes. I also began
moving the bowl a little closer each day.
The Monday before Thanksgiving, I tried putting the bowl in my lap. He came and stood in front of me but
would not come any farther. Finally he let out a yowl.
On Tuesday, I put a piece of fish in my hand and held it out to him. It took time, but he finally wolfed it down.
On Wednesday, when he took the last bite from my hand, I moved my finger slightly under his chin. He shrank
back but didn’t run away.
On Thanksgiving, he actually let me pet him.

(2025·山东青岛·一模)Johnny, a 17-year-old from Whitehorse, had been competing in Cross-Country Skiing
for five years. For many young athletes like him in Whitehorse, Yukon, the Yukon Cross-Country Ski
Championships were more than just a competition. It was their dream. A year ago, Johnny qualified for the
Championships and successfully won a medal.
After the competition, Johnny was eager to share his experience with Hayden, his teammate and best friend.
Hayden had narrowly missed qualifying for the Championships. Johnny had watched his friend train tirelessly, push
himself to the limit, and always keep his big smile. Johnny knew how much the Championships meant to Hayden.
Johnny handed Hayden some colorful pins. “These are pins I traded with athletes from all over Yukon,”
Johnny said with a smile, “I want you to have them, so you can feel a part of the event too.”
Hayden was touched, “Thanks, Johnny. This means a lot.”
“Next time,” Johnny continued, “I hope you can also experience the event. I know you’ll make it.”
Hayden nodded, “I’ll work even harder for that.”
This year’s Yukon Cross-Country Ski Championships would be held in a month. Coach Nick guided the
team through daily tough training and the team made significant progress in their skating, cornering, and downhill
techniques. Meanwhile, they enhanced their endurance and balance. Both Johnny and Hayden met the
Championship standards. Given Johnny’s rich competitive experience. Coach Nick once again qualified Johnny for
this year’s event and Hayden was selected as an alternate (替补).
The qualification for the competition excited Johnny, but there was always an idea staying in his mind.
Johnny knew his friend had been wanting to go to the Championships for several years. This was the last chance for
both of them to attend the Championships, as they would age out of the competition after this year. The thought

Passage 7
(2025·山东泰安·一模)Once strangers, David Whitson and Allie Reimold are now lifelong friends bonded by
a life-saving gift.
Four years earlier, as an 18-year-old behavioral sciences undergraduate. Allie had helped organize the Purdue
University Dance Marathon to raise money for an Indiana children's hospital. During the 16-hour event, she'd
joined the National Marrow Donor Program, a global nonprofit assisting bone marrow( 骨髓) and stem cell
transplants for patients with life-threatening blood cancers. Allie knows it's of great significance. Some 18,000
Americans are diagnosed each year with a life-threatening illness — including leukemia( 白血病), lymphoma,
sickle cell disease and more than 70 others - that could be treated with a marrow or blood cell transplant, according
to the Health Resources and Services Administration. But some patients. the federal agency says, will never find a
match.
David was just 44 when he went from incredibly healthy to being on a ventilator(呼吸机)。When his cold
turned into a fever, David rushed to an emergency room. He explained to the doctor that“something was seriously
wrong” because the left side of his body was in pain. A CT scan and other tests revealed his poor physical
condition. Acute myeloid leukemia - a rare. fast-growing blood and bone marrow cancer originating from abnormal
blood stem cells-tends to affect older adults, according to Yale Medicine.
He broke down when two more rounds of chemotherapy(化疗) failed to fight the illness. But if he found the
right match. David's cancerous. Type B-positive blood could be replaced. It could return him to health. But finding
a donor match can be challenging: Only about 30% of patients have a relative who can donate; for the rest, doctors
search national and international donor registries, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Siblings (兄弟姐妹) are often
the best matches because they have the same biological parents. But David's brother wasn't an ideal match. So, his
doctors tried the registries.
Allie got the call.

Passage 8
(2025· 山东济宁· 一模)Jacob believed Blanche, the little bird, could fly with his training. But Rex, his
neighbor, did not share his enthusiasm and constantly joked about his attempts. “You got wings? Where are they? ”
He patted Jacob’s shoulder and laughed. Jacob shook his hand off and held on to the box.
The bird flapped(振翅) around and let out another cry. She hated being inside that box. But Jacob had to put
her there to take her to the mountaintop and release her. The wind blew harder, icy-cold in their faces.
“That’s a strong wind,” said Rex, “Are you sure that pigeon can fly in this?”
“Blanche isn’t a pigeon,” Jacob shouted.
Rex laughed, “Oh yeah, that’s right. A seagull(海鸥). One of those little things that hop by the sea.” His
jokes continued, but Jacob tuned him out, his mind wandering back to the day he found Blanche on the shore. She
hardly had any feathers and her eyes were almost completely shut. But Jacob touched her and she moved a little bit.
So Jacob took her home.
Then he faced a new challenge: What to feed the baby bird? Jacob headed to the library and came across a
book with a picture of a man feeding a baby bird milk. Desperate and willing to try anything, he gave it a shot …
All the way, Rex made one comment after another. Always the same thing. “That silly bird can’t fly. She’s
lucky to be alive.” But Jacob remained firm in his belief. Now, with the box in hand, he felt a wave of
determination. Blanche had already beaten the odds; he knew she could fly.
“So, what’s the plan? ” Rex asked, a touch of doubt in his voice. “Just throw her off the top?” Jacob ignored
the doubt in Rex’s tone, his focus only on Blanche and her approaching flight.
“I’ll help her,” Jacob replied. “I’ve been training her for two weeks.”
“Alright, alright, let’s do this,” Rex urged impatiently. “It’s freezing.”
Jacob placed the box on the grass and bent down to open it.

Passage 9
(2025·山东淄博·一模)Jack leaned against his apartment’s kitchen counter, gazing at the growing mountain
of bills. Despite the city’s promise of opportunities, he struggled with a low-paying job and high expenses. Every
month felt like a battle to make ends meet. He missed the warmth of Mr. Thompson’s old house, where every
tenant(租户) felt like family and Mr. Thompson treated each tenant with constant kindness.
One cool autumn day, as Jack sorted through his mail, mostly consisting of bills and advertisements, a plain
white envelope caught his eye. The return address belonged to Mr. Thompson. Heart pounding with curiosity, Jack
tore it open. Inside, a check for $2,500 and a handwritten note fell into his hands.
“Dear Jack,
I hope this letter finds you well. I’ve recently sold the old house, and it felt only right to share a portion of
the proceeds with those who made it a home. Over the years, watching young people like you grow and pursue their
dreams has been my greatest reward. Your presence brought joy and warmth to our community. I wish you all the
best.
Warm regards,
Thompson”
Jack’s eyes welled up with tears of gratitude. This unexpected windfall was more than just money-it was a
lifeline, a ray of hope in his struggles. The gesture reminded him of all the times Mr. Thompson had shown similar
kindness to his tenants, from helping with repairs to offering wise advice during difficult times.
The check trembled in Jack’s hand. It could fix everything, he thought-the unpaid rent, the empty fridge, and
the endless fear. But his chest tightened. Memories of his father’s lectures echoed: “Never depend on others. Stand
on your own.” Jack had promised to prove himself in the city, yet here he was, drowning.
Mr. Thompson’s words warmed him, but doubt crept in. Was it a charity case? He needed answers-not from
the money, but from the man who sent it.
Jack paced, the check glaring from the table. He imagined Mr. Thompson’s kind eyes. This isn’t pity, Jack
reasoned. It’s... thanks.

Passage 10
(2025·山东菏泽·一模)In a busy local supermarket, Emma, a diligent college student, worked as a cashier to
make ends meet. Her days were in a rush of classes, part-time shifts, and struggling to realize her dream of
becoming an artist. Despite her tight schedule, Emma’s firm commitment meant she never missed a day of work.
One particular day, though, would prove to be unlike any other. Emma’s workday typically began at 3 pm
and ended around 10 pm. That day progressed like any other until Emma found herself with just an hour left before
her first break.
Then a weary-looking mother arrived at the checkout with her son and a grocery cart. The mother appeared
tired, with sleepy eyes and untidy hair. Emma greeted her with a warm smile, “Have you had a long day?” The
mother responded with a smile, saying, “Yes, it’s been a tiring one. This little one requested lasagna( 千层面) for
lunch, and I found we were out of food.”
The woman explained that her five-year-old son, Tristan, was the man of the house, and his younger brother
was in hospital, putting an emotional weight on him. Emma couldn’t help but empathize, recalling her own
experiences as a child with a sick brother.
Emma asked Tristan for his name, and as he cheerfully replied, “Tristan”, Emma presented him with a
lollipop(棒棒糖). She ran it through the register to ring it up before handing it to the delighted young boy.
What Emma hadn’t noticed during her initial scan of the woman’s items was the growing excitement on
Tristan’s face as each beep(滴滴声) from the register resounded. Eager and enthusiastic, he asked, “Can I help?
Can I help?” Emma’s heartwarming response was, “Of course!” She lifted Tristan to her workstation, teaching him
how to ring up groceries.
Unknown to Emma, Tristan’s mother took a photo of their interaction, capturing her son’s pure joy in a
moment frozen in time. Moved to tears, she took more photos of Emma and Tristan at work and expressed her
gratitude before leaving.

Passage 1
(2025 届江苏省南通、泰州、镇江等市高三上学期第一次调研测试)We all have dreams. Yet so few of us
realize them. Often, a dream dies as quickly as it is born because we lack the confidence to keep it. When I was old
enough to understand the realities of life, I realized that society puts a high value on youth, beauty and intellectual
achievement. This discovery gave me some idea to develop my dream.
I know beauty is something I will never have. So I didn't dream of becoming beautiful. But I didn't see it as
something bad because it forced me to concentrate my energy to develop my other qualities. What people see in the
disabled is only their appearance of being disabled. People are not impressed with the ability that lies inside every
disabled person.
My dream was simple. I dreamed of becoming a typist. I always hoped to be able to master the typewriter.
This magic machine would be my passport to getting a job. I come from a poor family and the best that my parents
could give me was a good school education. But, of course, this achievement proved to be no sure guarantee of
getting a job in an office. The employment field was a highly competitive place, especially for a disabled job-
seeker.
However, I refused to give in. I decided to take a six-month training course in typing. I filled in the detailed
information in the application form and wrote down typing as my training course. When I handed over the form to
the interviewer, she looked at me and then moved her eyes to my body. She left and discussed with another member
of the staff. When the interviewer returned, she advised me to change my choice from typing. “Why don’ t you take
up dressmaking so you can earn while at home?” she said. “Offices prefer to hire smartly dressed, pretty girls with
beautiful hands,” she added.

Passage 2
(2025 届湖北省部分高中协作体高三年级三月联考一模)“Go home and ask your mummy about your blind
brother! I am surprised you didn’t know that he is as blind as a bat!” Hearing Nathan’s words, I wanted to land a
blow on him for making fun of my two-year-old brother, David, but I was more desperate(渴望的) to find out the
truth.
With a misty(模糊的) vision, I ran home as fast as I could. Still out of breath, I questioned, “Is David blind?”
Mother turned to me with tears in her eyes. “Yes, he’s born blind.” It was a heartbreaking moment. I knew clearly
the dream of showing David my cool soccer moves or playing video games with him ended cruelly. “Why did you
keep the truth from me? I often wondered why he didn’t look at me or why he was always tripping over( 被绊倒)
things and I thought it was because he was still too young...” Before I could continue any further, mother hugged
me and cried, “I’m sorry, Caleb. Dad and I just didn’t know how to tell you.”
Suddenly, it struck me that David was blind but he could still hear the whole conversation. Not wanting him to
be affected by it, I stopped crying and went forward and embraced him. “I love you so much, David.” Worry crept
upon(开始影响) me: How hard life would be for him!
Little did I know that David was to inspire(鼓舞) me so greatly.
As David grew up, he was fairly strong-willed. Despite the challenges that he faced, he continued to attend the
school for visually impaired(视力受损) children. He insisted he would take the bus home on his own. Often, he
would walk through the main door, looking sheepish(不好意思的) and saying the same phrase, “Sorry Mum, I am
late. I boarded the wrong bus again.”
Tough as life was, there was always silver lining(一线希望) of misfortune. Despite not being able to see, he
could play a piece of music after listening to it, being played once on the piano. He even dreamed of playing
solo(独奏) one day on stage. Luckily for him, the school had discovered David’s extraordinary(非凡的) talent.

Passage 3
(2025·河南郑州·一模)Eight-year-old Lily was a curious little girl who loved exploring the world around her.
One day, Lily’s mother asked her to go to the store to buy some groceries. Excited by the thought of being
responsible, Lily happily walked along the streets, her small steps filled with purpose and enthusiasm. The sun was
shining, and the air was filled with the scent(香味) of freshly baked bread from the nearby bakery, adding to her
excitement.
As Lily walked into the store, she noticed a beautiful container of pink candies on the cashier’s desk. The
candies were wrapped in sparking wrappers, and they seemed to call out to her. She really wanted to buy them.
However, there was one problem-she didn’t have enough money to pay.
Then, Lily came up with an idea. She told herself it was just a little white lie and that no one would ever
know. It seemed like a simple solution to her dilemma(困境). She quickly put the candies into her shopping bag
and paid for the groceries, hoping that her secret would be safe.
That evening, Lily couldn’t help but feel regretful in her heart. The excitement of the day had faded, replaced
by a heavy feeling of guilt. She knew that what she had done wasn’t right. Her conscience (良知) was eating away
at her, causing her to lose sleep and feel restless. The candies, once a source of joy, now sat heavily in her stomach,
a reminder of her actions.
The next morning, Lily’s mother noticed her daughter’s troubled expression and asked her what was wrong.
Lily hesitated for a moment, the weight of her secret almost too much to bear. But then, the truth poured out of her
mouth like a waterfall.
“Mom, I have something to tell you,” Lily said, tears welling up in her eyes, “I took some candies from the
store without paying for them. I'm really sorry.” Her voice was small, but the sincerity in her words was clear.
Her mother’s face softened, and she pulled Lily into a warm hug. “Lily, I am proud of you for telling me the
truth,” her mother said gently. “But it’s important to understand that lying, even about something small, can hurt
others and ourselves. Let’s go back to the store and make things right.”

Passage 4
(2025·河南驻马店·一模)After getting up late on a sleepy Sunday, I saw my dad at the kitchen table reading
the Sunday edition of the local newspaper. I made a quick sandwich and sat down next to him, asking him what was
new. He turned to me in low spirits and said the council was planning to tear down the community garden nearby.
He mentioned that he used to work on it with his dad, so the place had some childhood memories for him.
He then put down the paper, walked over to the closet and after a bit of hunting, pulled out a thick, black
bookInside, there were several old photos. After thumbing through a few pages, my dad found the one of him and
his dad together at the community garden, just as he had said “Wow, your cheeks were super rosy back then!” I
said, astonished.
With nothing planned for the afternoon, my dad and I decided to take a trip over to the community garden to
see how it was doing these days. Not good, as it turned out. Soda cans, cigarette ends and other garbage spread
everywhere. Pots of soil were still there, but the few plants that remained were either dead or dying.
We looked at each other and knew what we had to do. After gathering some tools and garbage bags, we went
straight to clean up the place. I phoned some of my school friends, and soon a half-dozen people were collecting
garbage and sweeping paths. Someone had even brought bags of fresh seeds and soil along with new flowers, so we
uprooted the old dead plants and flowers and planted new ones.
After a few hours, the community garden looked totally transformed. Despite our hard work, there was still
the matter of the coming council vote. We created a plan: to take photos of the garden and spread the news about

(2025 届河南省开封市顺河回族区高三上学期一模)As my mom says, love is simple. There came a time in
my life, over two years ago, when I had the desire to impact someone’s life positively. My friend Kelley told me
about a volunteer trip she had taken to Gary, West Virginia, and it was a life-changing experience. After looking
into service opportunities, I signed up to take a volunteer trip to Gary.
Volunteer trips have become increasingly popular among young people seeking meaningful experiences. They
gain access to a wide range of volunteer projects concerning various fields such as education, environmental
conservation, community development, and more.
When we arrived in Gary, I noticed how different the town was from where I lived. Houses were built on little
hills. There were few stores or restaurants in town; most had closed. You were lucky to find a gas station or grocery
store.
My job was to help build a new school. The work days were long and hot. We awoke at 6 a. m. and worked
through the day in 90 degree heat. There were always encouraging people by my side who helped keep me going.
Anyway, it was an unforgettable experience.
Then last summer, I decided to challenge myself by taking a volunteer trip abroad with some other volunteers
and taking up meaningful volunteer work in a foreign community. My destination was a remote village in
Honduras, a country in Central America. I wanted to teach science to the poor children there.
