(2025·四川成都·二模)
Mrs. Grady welcomed her class back inside the warm cheerful room. The children settled down at their desks,
still chatting about the activities they had enjoyed over the winter break. It took a few minutes for Mrs. Grady to get
their full attention.
“I’m so glad you’re all back. I’m sure you’re well rested and ready to get back to work!” she smiled. The
children made faces, but most of them were happy to be back at school with their friends after two weeks off.
“Since it’s the start of a new year, we’ll talk a little bit about something people do this time of year. It’s called
making resolutions. Does anyone know what that means?” Mrs. Grady asked. The teacher’s eyes focused like lasers
on the boys still chatting. They immediately stopped and looked down at their fingernails to avoid her stare.
Olivia raised her hand. “I know. It’s when you decide to do something different for the new year. ” Olivia
always seemed to have the answers. Mrs. Grady nodded. “Yes, that’s close. It doesn’t have to be at the beginning of
the year, but a resolution is a decision to make some kind of change and stick to it.”
Several hands shot up in the air. Suggestions such as eating more vegetables, eating less candy, and drinking
lots of water were offered. Mrs. Grady agreed they were good choices to make for a healthy resolution. “But the
resolution we make is a bigger idea. And now, I would like all of you to take a few minutes to think about what
kind of resolution you could make this year, and a few ways you would be able to achieve it.” the teacher
suggested.

【答案】Olivia thought about it. She sat there, her chin resting on her hand, deep in thought. She considered all the
suggestions her classmates had made, but she wanted to come up with something truly unique. Suddenly, an idea
popped into her head. She decided that her resolution would be to help those in need. She knew there were many
people in the community who were less fortunate, and she wanted to make a difference. She thought of ways she
could achieve this, like volunteering at the local soup kitchen or organizing a donation drive for the homeless
shelter.
Olivia took out her workbook and started writing. She jotted down her resolution clearly at the top of the page:
‌“To help those in need throughout the year.” Then she listed the specific actions she would take. She planned to
visit the soup kitchen every month to serve meals and talk to the people there. For the donation drive, she would set
a date in a few weeks and make posters to encourage her classmates and neighbors to contribute. As she wrote, she
felt a sense of excitement and determination. She was looking forward to making a positive impact in the new year
with her resolution.

The weather had been unusually hot. My wife Pat and I were having a cup of coffee on our deck. There was
rarely any breeze, and it was extremely wet. The sky turned dark. Lightning danced across the sky, accompanied by
low, rumbling (隆隆的) thunder. The heavy air seemed to press down on us, adding to our discomfort and unease.
Suddenly, the phone rang. It was our son, David, an Army helicopter pilot. Three months earlier, he had
begun a one-year assignment in a demilitarized zone (非武装区) in South Korea. David made an effort to sound
cheerful, but as a man who had spent time during World War II on a small South Pacific island, I recognized the
strong sense of homesickness.
A booming clap of thunder shook again.
“What was that?” David asked. “It sounded like an explosion.” “Just thunder,” Pat said.
There were several seconds of silence. “David,” I asked, “Are you still there?”
“I was thinking about what Mother said — ‘just thunder’. Other than the two of you, do you know what I
miss most of all — what many of the men say they miss? Thunder. We have rain, wind, snow, and some violent
storms, but never thunder.” “Remember, Dad, when I was a boy, how the two of us would stretch out on the floor
and listen to the thunder? I wish I were there now to listen with you,” he said softly.
As soon as I hung up the phone, I got my tape recorder, my large umbrella and a wooden chair. “I’m going to
record our son some thunder,” I told Pat. With lightning flashing across the sky like a display of fireworks, I sat in
the driving rain beneath my umbrella and recorded half an hour of the finest Mississippi thunder a lonely man could
ever want to hear. The next day I mailed the tape to David with a single line: “A special gift.”

【答案】
David called again three weeks later. This time he was his old self. “Dad,” he said, “you won’t believe it! I
invited some friends over and we listened to the tape together — instant silence, and then a few minutes of sadness.
But once we realized we were listening to the sounds of home, we felt better and connected with the people we
missed, like we’d been relieved of a heavy burden. I can’t tell you how much that tape meant to me,” he continued,
“Thanks, Dad! It was really a special gift.”
From then on, thunder had different meanings for Pat and me. For the next eight months, while David was
in Korea, we found ourselves expecting thunderstorms. Rather than feeling depressed on gloomy days, we regarded
the storms as a special gift, which seemed to tie us closer to a son so far from home. It was no longer just a sound to
us but a bond, a reminder of love that stretched across the miles and brought us lose, no matter how far apart we
were.

Peter, 60, loved his job as a school bus driver. He had been one almost all his life, loving the company of the
little children who rode his bus daily. It made him feel younger and more energetic. His record was clean, without
one accident during his tenure (任期), which made him a trustworthy driver.
However, Mr. Clark, Peter’s boss, was concerned that he was too old to be a school bus driver and that it was
time for him to retire. “You don’t have a choice here, Peter,” he said seriously. “We don’t want to invite any risk to
the children who take your bus every day. We need a replacement at this stage.”
“But I have a perfect record,” argued Peter. “You know, for an elderly man like me, my job is the only thing
that keeps me alive. I enjoy staying with children. I want to keep my joy.”
“Think about those kids, Peter,” Mr. Clark said. “I didn’t want to bring this up, but didn’t you mention before
that you’ve been having some health problems lately? Would you take responsibility if something bad happened to
those kids?”
“There is no problem with my body now. I’m still capable of handling driving ” Peter became a bit anxious
and tried to explain further. But Mr. Clark’s attitude was firm. He shook his head, emphasizing that he couldn’t
afford to take any risks, as the children’s safety was the top priority. Looking at Mr. Clark’s tough attitude, Peter
thought it over and very unwillingly gave in to Mr. Clark’s request. Peter decided to retire a week later.
His retirement day approached pretty soon. On his last day of diving the school bus, Peter was filled with a
heavy heart. As he made his usual rounds, picking up the children, he noticed that he was a bit more tired than
usual. But he shrugged it off, thinking it was just the sadness of leaving his beloved job.

【答案】Suddenly Peter felt a sharp pain in his chest. His hands trembled on the steering wheel, and for a
moment he lost control. The children in the bus started to scream in feat In that split second, visions of the
children’s bright smiles during every ride flashed before his eyes. “I mustn’t let anything happen to them. I
mustn’t....,” Peter endured the severe pain, murmuring to himself . Fortunately, with his last bit of strength and his
years of driving experience, he managed to pull the bus over safely to the side of the road.
The next day, Peter saw the boss and children come to his home with flowers. The children handed him
flowers and a drawing titled “Our Hero, Mr. Peter.” Tears welled up in Peter’s eyes Mr. Clark softened his tone and
said, “Thank you for your quick thinking and dedication during such a critical moment. You’ve fulfilled your
promise to keep the children safe.” Then he offered Peter an honorary position as a safety advisor. Peter felt a deep
sense of fulfillment, knowing he could still play a meaningful role in ensuring the children’s safety and staying
connected to the job he cherished.

The bell rang. I grabbed my backpack and headed to the library for my favorite after-school activity: Writing
Club. Miss Lisa our leader, said we’d exchange stories with partners and give suggestions to improve them. The
best story would be shared next week. My partner was Penny, who always got perfect scores on spelling and
grammar tests. We sat across from each other at a table. Then I handed her my creative but error-filled draft. Penny
looked worried as she gave me her story. I read her story and it was perfect! I had no suggestions. She didn’t even
look at me when she returned my story. Why was she so nervous?
When class ended, Penny looked relieved. She jumped up and grabbed her backpack. Everything fell out. She
shoved (乱塞) her stuff back in and hurried out of the library. I noticed a book under the table. It must have fallen
out of Penny’s bag. I flipped through the book. It was just like Penny’s story. It was longer but the plot was exactly
the same. I couldn’t believe it. Penny had copied this idea! It wasn’t fair. I got really annoyed.
Outside the school, I spotted Penny sitting on a bench and I walked over. “You dropped this,” I said,
holding out the book and raising my eyebrows at her. Penny’s shoulders were slumped (耷拉着). She sniffed and
wiped her nose on her sleeve. She took the book and ran away. I froze there, not knowing what to do. I realized I
shouldn’t have made her feel bad.
I kept thinking about Penny as I walked home. I decided to ask my parents for advice. At home, I found my
parents were cooking in the kitchen. Dad chopped vegetables into perfect shapes, while Mom added adventurous
flavors. Their dinners turned out delicious. That gave me an idea: Penny and I could combine her technical skills
with my creativity, just like the kitchen teamwork.

【答案】
The next morning at school, I found Penny and told her my idea. Seeing her anxious expression, I gently
explained how her grammar skills could polish my creative plot, just like my parents’ teamwork in cooking. Penny
hesitated, tears welling up, “But I… copied the story.” I smiled, “Let’s rewrite it together—your structure, my
ideas.” She finally nodded, whispering, “Thank you for not hating me.” We spent lunchtime brainstorming,
blending her precise sentences with my wild imagination. Gradually, Penny relaxed, even suggesting twists I’d
never considered.
At Writing Club next week, Penny read our combined story aloud. Her voice trembled at first but grew
confident as classmates leaned forward, captivated. Miss Lisa’s eyes sparkled, praising the seamless mix of
creativity and technical excellence. When Penny finished, applause erupted. She glanced at me, cheeks pink with
pride. Miss Lisa announced, “This collaboration proves teamwork creates magic!” Penny later confessed she’d
feared failure but now loved writing. We became real partners, balancing each other’s strengths—and our story won
first place.

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Jenny. One day, while playing in the woods, she got lost. She
was so scared and started to cry. As she was wandering around, hoping to find her way home, she came across an
old woman. The old woman, seeing Jenny’s distress, decided to help her. She gave Jenny a magical seven-colored
flower.
The flower had seven petals ( 花瓣), each in a different color: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and
purple. The old woman told Jenny that each petal could grant her one wish. Jenny was overjoyed. She pulled off the
first red petal and said, “I want to go home.” In an instant, she found herself right in front of her own house.
However, Jenny was a curious girl. She thought it would be fun to test the flower’s power. She pulled the
orange petal and wished for a big bunch of colorful balloons. Immediately, a huge number of balloons filled the air
around her. But they were too many to handle. They started to carry her up into the sky. Frightened, Jenny quickly
pulled the yellow petal and wished the balloons would go away. And so they did.
Next, Jenny saw some beautiful cakes in a shop window. She wanted them so much. With the green petal, she
wished for all the cakes in the shop. The cakes appeared in front of her, but soon, they started to pile up and made a
mess. Jenny used the cyan petal to make the cakes disappear.
Then, Jenny wished to have a cute toy-bear with the blue petal. A toy-bear appeared in front of Jenny. But it
was not what Jenny wanted. At this point, Jenny had only one purple petal left. She began to think seriously about

The Silent Bridge
The morning fog hung low over the cobblestone streets of Edinburgh as 17-year-old Mei adjusted her scarf. It
had been two months since she left her village in rural China for this Scottish high school exchange program. Her
English was still not fluent, and the cultural gaps felt like an invisible wall.
Her art teacher, Ms. MacLeod, noticed Mei's loneliness. “Join the community mural (壁画) project,” she
urged, placing a paintbrush in Mei's hand. “Art speaks where words fail.” The project aimed to paint a 10-meter-
long wall near the old castle, combining Scottish landscapes with participants' cultural roots.
On the first day, Mei froze in front of the wall. People in the community were busy with their own business,
while she wandered like an invisible presence, unnoticed by anyone. Then, a boy named Liam approached, his arms
spotted with blue paint. “Need help?” he asked. Mei showed her sketchbook with delicate bamboo forest under
sunlight and pointed to the wall. Liam's eyes lit up. “That's magic! Let's combine it with the Scottish Highlands.”
As Mei and Liam painted together, she noticed he never spoke. A note on his paintbox explained: “Selective
Mutism (选择性缄默症) — recovering since last year.” Pointing at their half-finished painting, Liam tapped the
wall. “This is my voice,” he wrote in his notebook. Mei understood — her drawings also spoke when words
failed.
Over the following days, the two worked tirelessly together on the mural. During breaks, they shared painting
tips and exchanged techniques through quick sketches — Liam showed Mei how to create purple heather flowers,
while Mei taught him to paint lotus flowers. Their brushes moved like whispering friends.
One sunny afternoon, the moment finally arrived — their masterpiece was complete: their brushstrokes and
colors blended like a quiet song telling stories without words. After admiring their finished masterpiece, they
gathered their brushes and paint, their hands trembling and their hearts racing.

【答案】Paragraph 1:At the very moment, Mei knocked over the blue paint! Their mural was spotted all over. Her
heart sank as she stared at the ruined masterpiece. But Liam simply dipped his brush into the spilled paint and
began transforming the accidental splashes into swirling mist around their bamboo-highland fusion. Mei watched in
awe as he turned disaster into artistry. She joined him, adding delicate strokes to blend the “mist” into their original
design. Their silent collaboration spoke louder than any words could.
Paragraph 2:
At the event of uncovering the mural, Mei stood between Liam and Ms. MacLeod, extremely nervous. When the
cloth dropped, gasps filled the air — the mural showed Scottish hills emerging from Chinese bamboo forests,
united by ethereal mist. The crowd cheered, but Mei’s eyes were fixed on Liam, who was smiling at her. Ms.
MacLeod whispered, “Art truly bridges all gaps.” That night, Mei finally felt the invisible walls melt away

The city was vast and unfamiliar, its towering buildings casting long shadows that seemed to swallow her
whole. Emma stood at the corner of a bustling street, holding a heavy suitcase in her hands. She had dreamed of
this moment-starting fresh, building a new life — but now, surrounded by strangers and endless concrete, she felt
small and utterly alone.
Her first week was a blur of missteps. The job she had lined up fell through when the company decided to hire
someone with more experience. Her savings were decreasing faster than she had expected, and the rent was due in a
week. Everywhere she turned, it felt like the city was pushing her away, as if it didn’t have room for one more
dreamer.
One rainy evening, when Emma boarded the train from another unsuccessful job interview, she noticed an
elderly man sitting across from her. He was dressed in a worn but neatly pressed suit, and his hands rested on a
leather briefcase that looked as old as he was. What caught Emma’s attention, however, was the book he was
reading — The Great Gatsby, her favorite novel.
Emma hesitated for a moment before striking up a conversation. “That’s a wonderful book,” she said, smiling.
The man looked up, his eyes bright with surprise and curiosity. “You’ve read it?” he asked, his voice warm but
tinged with a hint of nostalgia. As they began to talk, he put the book into his briefcase and introduced himself as
Mr. Bennett, and he had been a literature professor before retiring. He spoke of his travels, his students, and the
books that had shaped his life. And Emma also shared her hopeless situation. Listening attentively for a while, Mr
Bennett pulled out a pen and a cream-colored card with his wrinkled hands, and quickly wrote something down.

【答案】As the train approached Emma’s stop, Mr.Bennett reached into his briefcase. He pulled out the book The
Great Gatsby he had been reading, and handed it to Emma with a warm smile. “It has been a companion to me
through many years, and I hope it will be to you as well,” said Mr. Bennett.Emma was taken aback by the
unexpected gesture, feeling a wave of gratitude washing over her. She accepted the book, promising to read it with
the same care and attention that Mr.Bennett had shown her.
That evening, as Emma opened the book, a cream-colored card dropped out of it. She picked it up and read the
elegant script: “To Emma, may your journey in the city be as enlightening as the stories you read. Keep dreaming
and never lose sight of what truly matters. Sincerely, Mr.Bennett.” The card was a testament to the kindness of
strangers and the unexpected connections one can make in a bustling city. Emma felt a renewed sense of hope and
determination, inspired by the generosity of a man she had only just met.

Emma and I wanted a dog more than anything else. At night, we’d slip out to the roof to talk about dogs.
One summer night, as we sat together on the roof, Emma saw something. “What’s that?” She pointed down
toward a dark shadow on our driveway. I followed her finger and saw a big, black dog with long, untidy hair. We
climbed down the roof. Emma made a little kissing noise and held out her hand. It approached slowly. When she
was close enough, I stroked her gently. She was so skinny that I could feel every bone, and her coat was full of dirt.
She seemed to be a homeless dog.
We decided to bring her some food. I slid into the kitchen to fill a bowl with milk. She drank it quickly, but
as soon as she finished, she disappeared into the bushes.
The next day, we used our pocket money to buy some food for the dog, who we named Elsa. We hid the food
as we were afraid our parents wouldn’t approve of us feeding a homeless dog.
That night, as soon as we set a plate down, Elsa appeared almost as if from nowhere. She nosed at it, but for
some reason she wouldn’t eat it.
“Come on,” I urged. “Let’s leave her alone and see what happens.” So we went in and hid to spy.
Unexpectedly, Elsa grabbed the plate in her mouth and ran away. By the time we rushed back outside, she was long
gone.
This went on a long time — four or five nights, maybe. The most unusual thing was that even though Elsa
kept taking the food, she didn’t seem to be putting on any weight. If anything, she was getting even skinnier.
Then came that special night. Elsa came, but this time she barked at us, and ran back and forth. I ran my
hand through her fur, “What’s it, Elsa? What do you want?”

【答案】范文
Elsa barked again, ran toward the bushes, and turned to see if we were following. We exchanged puzzled
looks but decided to trust her. As we approached the bushes, we heard faint whimpering sounds. Elsa led us to a
hidden spot where we found four tiny puppies, huddled together and shivering. It dawned on us that Elsa had been
taking the food to feed her babies. She had been so skinny because she was sharing every meal with them.
Seeing this, we decided to take Elsa and her babies home together. We knew our parents might not be
thrilled at first, but we couldn’t leave this little family out in the cold. We gently picked up the puppies, cradling
them in our arms, while Elsa followed closely behind. When we explained the situation to our parents, they
softened and agreed to let us keep them. From that day on, Elsa and her puppies became a beloved part of our
family, and we learned the true meaning of love and responsibility.
