Passage 1
[2025 宁夏回族自治区石嘴山市第三中学高三下学期一模]
Eight-year-old Lily was a curious little girl who loved exploring the world around her. One day, Lily’s
mother asked her to go to the store to buy some groceries. Excited by the thought of being responsible, Lily happily
walked along the streets, her small steps filled with purpose and enthusiasm. The sun was shining, and the air was
filled with the scent(香味) of freshly baked bread from the nearby bakery, adding to her excitement.
As Lily walked into the store, she noticed a beautiful container of pink candies on the cashier’s desk. The
candies were wrapped in sparking wrappers, and they seemed to call out to her. She really wanted to buy them.
However, there was one problem-she didn’t have enough money to pay.
Then, Lily came up with an idea. She told herself it was just a little white lie and that no one would ever
know. It seemed like a simple solution to her dilemma(困境). She quickly put the candies into her shopping bag
and paid for the groceries, hoping that her secret would be safe.
That evening, Lily couldn’t help but feel regretful in her heart. The excitement of the day had faded, replaced
by a heavy feeling of guilt. She knew that what she had done wasn’t right. Her conscience (良知) was eating away
at her, causing her to lose sleep and feel restless. The candies, once a source of joy, now sat heavily in her stomach,
a reminder of her actions.
The next morning, Lily’s mother noticed her daughter’s troubled expression and asked her what was wrong.
Lily hesitated for a moment, the weight of her secret almost too much to bear. But then, the truth poured out of her
mouth like a waterfall.
“Mom, I have something to tell you,” Lily said, tears welling up in her eyes, “I took some candies from the
store without paying for them. I'm really sorry.” Her voice was small, but the sincerity in her words was clear.
Her mother’s face softened, and she pulled Lily into a warm hug. “Lily, I am proud of you for telling me the
truth,” her mother said gently. “But it’s important to understand that lying, even about something small, can hurt
others and ourselves. Let’s go back to the store and make things right.”

【答案】
Shortly, Lily and her mother were back at the store. Lily’s heart was pounding, but her mother gave her the
courage she needed. They approached the cashier desk, and with a trembling voice, Lily explained what she had
done and admitted her mistake. The store owner, surprised by the little girl’s honesty, smiled kindly and praised her
for her integrity. He even gave her a bag of candies as a reward for her bravery and honesty. Lily’s face lit up with
relief and gratefulness as she handed over the money, feeling a heavy weight lift off her shoulders.
From that day on, Lily understood the importance of telling the truth. The experience taught her that honesty,
even when it’s difficult, is always the best policy. She learned that while mistakes are part of life, it’s how we
correct them that builds up our character. Lily’s mother’s support and the store owner’s understanding left a lasting
impression on her. She promised never to let a “little white lie” cloud her judgment again. The pink candies
incident remained a precious memory, a reminder of the power of truth and the warmth of a mother’s love in
guiding her through life’s lessons.

[2025 山西省高三下学期考前适应性测试启航(一模)]
Jenny, an eleven-year-old girl, had always been shy and quiet. She rarely spoke up in class and often found
herself feeling invisible. One day, her teacher announced a school talent show. Jenny loved singing but had never
sung in front of anyone except her family. The idea of performing in front of the whole school terrified her.
That evening, Jenny told her mom about the talent show. “I think you should participate,” her mom said
gently. “But I’m too scared,” Jenny replied. “What if I make a mistake and everyone laughs at me?”
Her mom thought for a moment and then handed Jenny a small, beautiful necklace. “This belonged to your
grandmother,” she said. “She wore it whenever she felt nervous or scared. It gave her the courage to face her fear.
Maybe it can do the same for you.”
Jenny decided to give it a try. Over the next few weeks, she practiced singing every day, wearing the
necklace for courage. She still felt nervous, but the thought of her grandmother’s strength helped her push through
her fear.
On the day of the talent show, Jenny’s heart was pounding as she stood backstage. She could hear the
audience talking and laughing, and her legs felt like jelly (果冻). But then she touched the necklace and took a deep
breath. She walked onto the stage, the bright lights making it hard to see the crowd, and began to sing.

Passage 3
[2025 陕西省菁师联盟高三3 月联考(一模)]
It all started with the gift. A few months before I began college, my parents surprised me with the one thing
every young adult desires: a brand new laptop. That summer, I was glued(全神贯注于) to the screen, living in a
digital world. I spent hours on social media, chatting with friends, and ignoring the real one around me. I was more
concerned with the virtual interactions than the actual people and places around me. Being online was more
important than anything else.
So, when I heard my dad’s plan for our family vacation that year, I was less than thrilled. “This year,” he
announced, “we’re going to try something different. We’re going to a farm.”
A farm wasn’t my ideal vacation, but it was still a break from the routine. I went through the packing up and
planning, barely listening to the instructions. My mind was elsewhere, on the Internet, where my conversations
never stopped. I was so absorbed in my digital world that the first time I really paid attention to the real world was
when we get to our destination — a remote farm.
I stared out the window to see the breathtaking views outside. The air coming through the open windows was
warm and carried the fresh smell of the forest. But the view wasn’t what caught my attention. The moment I got off
the car, I rushed into the farmhouse. The real shock came when I tried to check my e-mail and found that I had no
Internet connection.
“We have no Wi-Fi here” a boy said softly. He might be the oldest of the 3 kids on the farm. I looked at him,
too depressed to say anything. My laptop would be completely useless. I would live in the wilderness for a week
with no way to connect to the online world. I was close to tears, afraid of the boredom I had to tolerate in the
coming days.

Passage 4
[2025 宁夏六盘山高级中学高三下学期一模]
One day while walking through the forest, a bear saw a sign. “Forest Band Tryouts(选拔赛) Next Weeks.”
“Wow, a band, I would love to be in a band,” he thought. He had never played an instrument before but he
was willing to try. He had seen concerts in the forest before and really admired the animals that could sing and play
instruments.
He hurried home to tell his parents of the tryouts. His Mom was cooking dinner. Dad was sitting in his
favorite chair reading the newspaper when he rushed in with the news.
“Mom, Dad, guess what, I am going to be in a band.” Well, his parents were stunned sine they knew the little
cub did not know the first thing about a musical instrument. His Mom just hesitated for a second and then said.
“Well, that is great dear. Un, what will you play?” She didn’t want to disappoint the cub, so she tried to be
encouraging.
“I am going to play the harmonica,” he replied. “I just know I can do that. I know I can.” He then ran to his
room to practice, and he practiced every day for the next week until the tryouts. He woke up bright eyed and bushy
tailed on the day of the tryouts and ran to the forest only to see all of his friends there. Sammy the squirrel was
there with his guitar, Robby the rabbit with his drum set and everyone was practicing until their names were called.
Finally, they got to the Bear and he was nervous but he went in and did his very best. When he was finished,
he was told that he was good but no good enough for band, the judges were sorry but he just could not be in the

[2025 山西省孝义市高三下学期2 月模拟]
John and James were inseparable best friends. Their friendship didn’t go smoothly as they often fought over
various matters, yet they always managed to hold onto it tightly. But no matter how bad the fights got, they just
couldn’t let go of each other. Driven by the dream of a bright future, they set out on a job-looking journey, traveling
far and wide, through charming villages, thick forests, and beautiful beaches. All the while, they encouraged each
other during this hard adventure.
One fateful day, they got trapped in a huge desert. The desert seemed to have no end. Their food and water
were almost gone. John, being the more cautious one, suggested saving the little they had left for emergencies. But
James was so thirsty and couldn’t think clearly. He just wanted to drink. This led to a really bad fight. In the middle
of the fight, John lost his temper and slapped James. Everything stopped for a moment. James was really angry and
wrote in the sand, “My best friend slapped me! ” Fortunately, they eventually came across an oasis(绿洲). The sight
of water filled them with joy, and they played happily, momentarily forgetting their argument for a while. But then,
James was careless when he was bathing and started to drown. Without a second thought, John jumped into the
water and pulled him to safety.
Grateful and relieved, James hugged John tightly and thanked him generously. After a short rest, as they
prepared to leave, James took a sharp stone and carved deeply on a rock, “My best friend saved my life! ” He then
turned to John and said, “When you hurt me, I wrote it in sand, knowing it would be removed by the wind. But
when you saved me, I engraved it on the rock, ensuring it lasts long all the time. It means the good things and our
friendship should always be remembered and we should cherish them. ”

Passage 2
[2025 陕西省西安市长安区高三一模]
Sam’s birthday was approaching, and the excitement that usually filled his heart was now replaced with
disappointment and stress. Turning eleven was a big deal, and he had always celebrated it with a grand party
surrounded by his friends. However, this year was different. The burden of excessive homework and his parents’
struggling business weighed heavily on him, forcing Sam to make the difficult decision of not having a birthday
party, even though it was an event he enjoyed dearly every year.
One day, during break, his best friend, Jim, with a curious look in his eyes, approached. “Are you going to
have a birthday party this year?” Jim asked, sensing Sam’s sadness.
“No,” Sam sighed and replied sadly, “There’s just too much going on and my parents are going through
financial difficulties.”
He smiled weakly, trying to conceal his immense disappointment and stress, but Jim saw through his
pretence(假装) easily. Jim nodded thoughtfully and did not say anything. After the break, Sam saw his talking to
one of their classmates, Sarah, secretively. Curious, Sam went over to them, but as soon as Jim saw him, he quickly
walked away. Sam was startled by Jim’s strange actions and turned towards Sarah.
“What did he say?” Sam asked.
However, Sarah simply shrugged and walked away with Jim, leaving Sam standing there. feeling left out and
anxious.
What is happening? San wondered anxiously. Are they keeping something from me?
As Sam’s birthday drew nearer, Jim was often found chatting softly with his other classmates. Whenever
Sam went over to them, they would just walk away or tell him that they were talking about a secret which Sam was
not allowed to know. Jim has never kept secrets from me before, Sam thought. His heart fell. Even his friends were
distancing themselves from him! He swung between confusion and sadness with each passing moment, desperately
trying to figure out what was happening. Why were his friends distancing themselves from him? And what were
they hiding?

Passage 4
[2025 西北四省(山西、陕西、青海、宁夏)高三下学期第一次联考]
Volcanic ash from Iceland’s Eyjafjallajökull made Europe’s airports shut down for nearly a week, leaving
thousands of passengers stranded(滞留) across the globe. Among them was Agnes’s mother, Sophia Atila Kafu,
who was stuck at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, nearly 4,000 miles away from Agnes, who was in Canada,
waiting for her mother to attend her graduation ceremony.
This would hardly be notable were it not for the fact that Sophia was 64, had never been outside Kenya, had
never been on a plane, had never been inside an airport, spoke only Swahili(斯瓦希里语), carried only 25 euros
and didn’t have a working mobile.
By the time Agnes realized something was wrong, Sophia had already been stranded at Schiphol for 19
hours. She had some emergency contact details with her but, so far, no call had been made or received.
Realizing that her mother was unable to seek help, Agnes called the airline, KLM(荷兰航空), to ask if they
could search for her. The airline told her that there was too much chaos in the airport and that they would not be
able to locate one particular person.
Unable to rest, Agnes contacted her friends and her colleagues for help. Soon, there were people from
Boston, Toronto, New York and San Francisco working on a solution. By now, Sophia had been stranded for nearly
40 hours.
One of Agnes’s friends sent an email to her contacts titled “Urgently need your networking help!” It begged,
“Do you know anyone who’s stranded in Amsterdam, or know anyone whose Facebook friends or Twitter followers
might be there?”
This email spread quickly among friends of friends. Within two hours, the email went into the inbox of
George Bougias, the manager of Delta Airlines (a KLM partner). George happened to know Swahili. A few minutes
later, George was on his way to the airport. He and six security agents began to comb the airport.

Passage 5
[2025 山西省高三下学期一模]
It was a relatively calm day in the fishing village of Kalk Bay near Cape Town. Tongai Matandirotya was
working his shift as a bartender at the Brass Bell Restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxing, with customers chatting
and the gentle sound of waves from the nearby Atlantic Ocean providing a pleasant atmosphere. Several people
were walking by the window of Brass Bell looking out to the water. Tongai was in the middle of pouring a drink for
a customer when suddenly, chaos erupted. The scene changed dramatically.
A massive wild wave charged towards the shore, washing away everything in its path. People near the
water’s edge were caught completely off-guard and swept into the sea by the wave. Among them were 37-year-old
Clair Gardiner and her 8-year-old daughter Arya van Hilten. Clair knew they were being pulled into the water as
soon as the wave rushed over them, and she managed to wrap her arms around little Arya.
Tongai’s eyes widened in horror at the sight. Without hesitation, he dropped the drink he was pouring, his
mind focused only on saving the lives in danger. He rushed outside, tearing off his belt as he ran. The waves were
strong, but Tongai’s resolve was stronger. He dived into the water, the coldness of the ocean shocking his body. As
he swam towards the struggling pair, the waves threw him about, but he kept going. When he reached them, the
violence of the waves, even just a few meters from shore, had pulled Clair and Arya apart. Tongai quickly used his
belt to secure Arya and swam back towards the shore with all his strength.
Once Arya was safely on the shore, Tongai’s muscles burned with tiredness. Every breath was a struggle, but
he knew he couldn’t leave Clair behind. Without a second thought, he turned and swam back into the waves. The
sea seemed to fight him even harder but he was determined.

Passage 1
(2025 陕西省西安市新城区西安中学高三下学期一模)
My story started one autumn morning, at the bend on a path.
I was 13 years old, and was on the way to school. It was the first time I had caught sight of a fox. Fascinated to
the point that I forgot all fear, I dared to go up to it. I had never come so close to a wild animal. There was nobody
else around, only me and the fox.
“Hey, fox!” I tried to greet it, though my voice was so weak that it felt like I was saying hello to myself. It
didn’t hear me. It stayed there and I watched it. My heart was beating flat out. It was so cute. For a moment, I
thought I might be able to touch it.
Throughout the day at school, I could only think of the fox at the big beech (山毛榉) tree. At my return to the
place where we met, I was sure I’d find it there.
And I did. This time I gathered a little bit more courage and called out to it, “Fox!” Of course it escaped. But
that only made me long to meet it again. I decided that if I could find its kennel (洞) and catch it, I would try and
tame (驯服) it, making it my friend.
Thus, I spent most of my free time in the forests trying to find the fox during the following months. But I
never saw it again before winter came. During the winter, I followed its footprints far across the fields. Suddenly I
was alarmed by the howling of wolves near me. I ran away frightened, stumbled and hurt my ankle. It healed very
slowly, so that I had to stay at home during the winter, reading a book about animals of the forest and foxes.
When spring arrived, I was free again. I looked for fox kennels and waited for my fox. To my amazement, it
had got young ones but kept moving because of my observations; therefore I decided to observe the fox from a
longer distance.

Passage 2
[2025 山西省临汾市高三上学期考前适应性训练考试(一)]
The Pecan Thief
Plunk! I dropped another plump pecan(美洲山核桃) into my bucket(桶). Then a cool autumn breeze shook a
few more nuts loose from the tree and I scrambled to pick them up from the ground. Whew! Pecan picking was
really hard work, I thought, and my bucket was barely half full.
I was six years old, visiting my grandfather’s farm in Kansas, and Grandpa had sent me into the woods to
gather pecans for us to enjoy later. The pecans were about the size of a man’s thumbnail and just about the tastiest
snack I’d ever had. I wasn’t about to let him down.
Just then something caught my eye: A large brown squirrel(松鼠) was digging at the dirt a few feet away. I
watched in amazement as he picked up a pecan in his jaws and rushed toward a tree. The industrious squirrel
climbed up the trunk and disappeared into a large hole. A moment later the squirrel popped back out and climbed
down to the ground to pick up another nut. Once again, he took the pecan back to his secret hiding place inside the
hollow of the tree.
Not so secret anymore, I thought. I dashed over to the tree and stared into the hollow. It was stuffed with
pecans. This was my chance. Handful by handful, I scooped all of those pecans into my little bucket. Now it was
almost full!
I was so proud of myself. I couldn’t wait to show Grandpa all of the pecans I’d collected. I quickly ran back
and found him sitting outside, shelling a cob of corn to feed to the hens.
“Look, Grandpa,” I shouted, “look at all of the pecans I found!”

Passage 3
[2025 宁夏回族自治区石嘴山市惠农区石嘴山市第一中学一模]
It was a sunny day. James Dotson was laboring in his garden when a loud, painful cry came from the woods
behind his home. Realizing something wrong must have happened, he rushed towards the woods quickly. Soon he
found an injured baby deer lying in a pit(深坑), one of his skinny legs bleeding. So weak was the little deer that it
didn’t have the strength to move when Dotson approached. He squatted(蹲下) and stretched out his hands to the
deer with great care and pulled it up.
As he carried the little deer towards their home, his daughter Maggie rushed outside and greeted her father
with great excitement.
“Wow, a deer! What happened to him, Daddy?” asked Maggie.
“Well, the poor deer’ left leg is hurt badly.” Mr. Dotson said gently while walking into the sitting room.
Maggie followed her father to take a better look. “Poor little deer. Can we keep him, Daddy? And I will call him
Paxton.”
“That’s a fine name for a deer, Maggie. We’ll do everything we can to help him,” smiled Mr. Dotson. “But
we can’t keep him. He’s a wild animal.”
After Mr. Dotson carefully placed the little deer on the floor, he asked Maggie to go to the kitchen and get
his medical bag. The little deer was in luck. He was being attended to by James Dotson, the local Veterinarian.
In a flash, Maggie rushed outside carrying his medical bag and a small carrot she had grabbed from the
refrigerator. Maggie handed her father the bag and then placed the carrot by Paxton’s mouth, but the poor creature
wasn’t interested. It was so unsettled, hardly able to eat anything and had such an air of sadness on its face. Maggie
was worried and sad. However, her father convinced her that Paxton would be ok.
