【答案】14.B 15.C 16.A 17.A
M: I don’t think I appreciate traditional festivals like Christmas and Easter as much as my family.
W: What do you mean?
M: I’m just not that into them. Christmas and Easter have many extra parts involved. I like to celebrate with the
people I love in a comfortable environment. My favorite holiday is the summer festival.
W: Is it because of our tradition to swim in my pool every year before the parade?
M: No, though that is fun. It’s because after the parade, we go to my parents giant barbecue with all their friends.
Everyone brings a dish of food or drinks, and then we talk and tell stories until the stars come out.
W: People do that on Christmas and Easter too, you know? I think it just depends on your family’s traditions.
M: For some reason I just feel that most people feel the need to buy expensive things that are unnecessary during
Christmas and Easter. There is no expectation of getting or giving gifts. It feels like you are forced into being nice
because of a date.
W: Yes, but you don’t have to do any of that to celebrate. My family makes gifts for one another, or we make
promises, saying we will help each other with projects or housework.

C.Their service.
19.What has the speaker done in the tea house?
A.Settle an argument.
B.Learn Sichuan Opera.
C.Talk about business.
20.Why does the speaker think tea houses have powerful social function?
A.People can chat for a day there.
B.They have a lot of performances.
C.People pay little money.
【答案】18.B 19.C 20.A
There is a saying: China has the best tea houses in the world and Chengdu has the best tea houses in China.
After I came to Chengdu, I often go to the tea house, because the atmosphere is completely different from that in
the coffee shops in my country. Every time, I enter the tea house the waiters or waitresses will greet me with a
smile on their faces and with teapots and cups in their hand. People who go there are not all thirsty because tea
houses are also good places for business talk. I’ve invited my business partner to meet there. People have parties
there at times. They eat fruit and sunflower seeds while chatting. Some tea houses even have stages for
performances such as storytelling, crosstalk and Sichuan Opera, which holds people’s attention. Besides, like-
minded people, pay a little money and then can sit there all day long to chat with each other. Sometimes, when a
group of people have an argument, a peacekeeper will bring them to the tea house. It’s interesting that as soon as
the angry people sit down to drink tea they almost calm down. With the help of the peacekeeper, the problems can
be easily settled. The person who is wrong will pay for the tea and then they make it up. This convinces me that tea
houses have some powerful social function.

Yesterday at the grocery store, my son and I were picking up just the essentials: rice, oatmeal, apples, and
beans. Seeing him quietly staring at the candy aisle, I decided to let him choose a bar for himself — it had been so
long since he’d had a treat, with money being especially tight these days. He was silently looking at it so longingly
and his face lit up the moment I told him he could take one.
When it was our turn to pay, my card got declined not once, but twice. I hadn’t realized that a bill had gone
through and put us in the negative. A wave of embarrassment washed over me and the cashier’s impatient
expression only made it worse. I felt so defeated because things were already hard enough and it felt like we just
couldn’t catch a break. After apologizing, we had to abandon our groceries and walk out empty-handed.
The weight of the moment settled heavily on me. Life had already felt like an uphill battle, and this just
seemed like one more blow. What pained me most was that my son had witnessed it all. I apologized for not being
able to get his candy, and he simply replied, “It’s okay, Daddy. I don’t want it.” It just broke my heart hearing him
say that.
Just as we reached our car, the man who had been behind us in line rushed towards us. He handed me our
bag of groceries — including that candy bar — and explained he’d covered everything. He added quietly that he’d
been in my shoes before. I choked up, thanking him as sincerely as I could. As they walked away, I couldn’t help
but bawl in the car, my son seemingly frightened. In the moment of deep discouragement, a stranger’s kindness
had broken through — like a silver lining in the gray sky.
24.Why did the little boy stare at the candy aisle quietly?
A.He knew his father’s credit card didn’t work.
B.He was wondering which candy bar to choose.
C.He might be aware of his father’s tight budget.
D.He thought his father would definitely refuse his request.
25.Why did the author feel defeated after leaving the store?
A.The cashier was very rude to him.
B.His son was crying uncontrollably.
C.He forgot to buy the candy bar for his son.
D.He felt hopeless about his financial situation.
26.What can we infer from the son’s response to his father’s apology?
A.He was scared of his father’s reaction.
B.He was trying to make his father feel better.
C.He thought the candy bar was too expensive. D.He never liked the candy bar in the first place.
27.The underlined word “bawl” in the passage is closest in meaning to ________.
A.cry loudly
B.laugh suddenly
C.sigh deeply
D.speak angrily
【答案】24.C 25.D 26.B 27.A
Seeing him quietly staring at the candy aisle, I decided to let him choose a bar
for himself — it had been so long since he’d had a treat, with money being especially tight these days. He was
silently looking at it so longingly and his face lit up the moment I told him he could take one.( 看到他静静地盯着

The weight of the moment settled heavily on me. Life had already felt like an
uphill battle, and this just seemed like one more blow.(那一刻的压力重重地压在我身上。
I apologized for not being able to get his candy, and he simply replied, “It’s
okay, Daddy. I don’t want it.” It just broke my heart hearing him say that.(我为没能给他买糖果而道歉,而他只
I choked up, thanking him as sincerely as I could. As they walked away, I
故选A。

For centuries, we’ve pursued happiness and meaning. But what does that leave out? As a social psychologist,
I have dedicated my research career to a simple, but universal question: what makes for a good life, and how can
we achieve it?
For much of human history, we have been presented with two possibilities:pursuing a life of happiness, or a
life of meaning. Each of these paths has its benefits, but decades of psychological research have also revealed their
limits.
Ask the Danes and Finns, who consistently rank among the happiest people in the world, what their secret is
and they’ll tell you this:lower your expectations and be content with what you have. It sounds good, doesn’t it? But
it leaves something out. It’s a bit like being a college student who only takes easy courses to be sure of getting good
grades. Might there be more to life than simple pleasures and cozy comfort?
Then there’s the meaningful life. We often imagine that meaning flows from trying to change the world like
Steve Jobs. Once again, the research shows that lowering your sights and focusing on the little things can offer a
more achievable sense of meaning. Often people find it in routines like taking care of family, or volunteering in the
community. But there is also a dark side to the pursuit of meaning:researchers have found that it can encourage
people to draw sharp lines between those who belong in their group and those who don’t.
My research lab mapped out a third route to fulfillment:psychological richness. A psychologically rich life is
one filled with diverse, unusual and interesting experiences that change your perspective; a life with twists and
turns;a life that feels like a long, winding hike rather than many laps of the same racing circuit. Such experiences
can make us tougher. Not only that, embracing the pursuit of psychological richness can make us less likely to
regret: it matters less if the thing you did went wrong.
Perhaps no one said it better than Eleanor Roosevelt: “The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste
experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear .”
28.What is revealed about pursuing happiness or meaning?
A.Their benefits outweigh the limits.
B.They are equally difficult to achieve.
C.Both paths have limits despite their benefits.
D.Most people prioritize happiness over meaning.
29.What does the example of “a college student” show in paragraph 3?
A.Gratitude is essential for a happy life.
B.We should live up to others’ expectations.
C.Happiness requires academic achievement.
D.Life means more than leisure and comfort.
30.What can be inferred from paragraph 4 about the pursuit of meaning?
A.Its negative effect might weaken social unity in the long run.
B.It is more achievable through grand ambitions than small actions.
C.Volunteering is the most effective way to gain a sense of meaning.
D.People who pursue meaning often neglect their family responsibilities.
31.What is the author’s main purpose in writing this article?
A.To promote Roosevelt’s life philosophy.
B.To introduce a new concept of life fulfillment.
C.To criticize traditional psychological research.
D.To compare different cultural views on happiness.
【答案】28.C 29.D 30.A 31.B
Each of these paths has its benefits, but decades of psychological research have
also revealed their limits.(每条道路都有其优点,但几十年的心理学研究也揭示了它们的局限性。)”
It’s a bit like being a college student who only takes easy courses to be sure of
getting good grades. Might there be more to life than simple pleasures and cozy comfort?
But there is also a dark side to the pursuit of meaning:researchers have found
that it can encourage people to draw sharp lines between those who belong in their group and those who don’t.( 但
故选A。
For centuries, we’ve pursued happiness and meaning. But what does that leave
out? As a social psychologist, I have dedicated my research career to a simple, but universal question: what makes

Many parents habitually view online games as mere entertainment or even a distraction from reality, often
associating them with screen addiction or unproductive pastimes. However, a recent significant event strongly
proves that games are not so-called “electronic waste”, but can provide warmth and even save lives at critical
moments.
The heartwarming incident unfolded during a round of “Eggy Party’s” popular “Identify the Imposter” (揪出
捣蛋鬼) mode. The situation turned serious when an 8-year-old player activated the emergency meeting feature. As
soon as his microphone connected, other players were met not with normal talk, but with the distressing sound of
violent coughing and labored, wheezing breaths. The boy managed to explain, “I might not be able to continue
playing... I’m having an asthma (哮喘) attack. My parents are out, and I’ve run out of my asthma medicine.” At
first, some players were doubtful. But when they heard his breathing get worse and he could barely speak, they
became worried. They asked him to find a neighbour, but the boy said that in his village, the nearest house was too
distant to hear a call for help. This made them even more afraid. Players began frantically typing questions into the
chat, urging him to provide his home address. However, the only response was an unsettling silence — he was no
longer able to reply. Panicked and feeling a profound sense of urgency, one of the players wisely contacted the
game’s customer service. In the early hours of the following morning, the official “Eggy Party” account posted an
update, confirming that local police had been informed, the child had been successfully located, and most
importantly, he was out of danger and safe.
The game’s positive role goes beyond this single event, Eggy Party has partnered with groups to support
China’s space industry, raising money and sparking young people’s interest in science. In a remarkable tribute to
this partnership, an Eggy was carried aboard the Shenzhou-19 spacecraft, a powerful symbol of how the virtual
world can connect with national ambitions. Furthermore, the game has taken part in national projects fighting
poverty. On the cultural side, through the “National Treasures Homecoming” theme of its Season 26, it gently
weaves in ideas about cultural heritage, building a strong sense of pride among its many young users, especially
those under the age of 8.
As one netizen commented, “Eggy Party deserves the high praise. It’s these actions that have made it the
game with the most daily players, a record still unbroken.” This story shows us that while online worlds have risks,
they can also offer protection and community. It reminds us to see the positive side of these virtual spaces, where
players can come together to do good.
32.Why does the author mention parents’ common views in the first paragraph?
A.To criticize parents’ outdated views.
B.To highlight the risks of online games.
C.To contrast with a real-life example.
D.To argue for stricter gaming regulations.
33.What can be inferred from the rescue incident described in the text?
A.The voice chat was designed for emergencies.
B.Players can cooperate to handle urgent situations.
C.Rural children need closer supervision online.
D.Players can always identify real emergencies.
34.What is the main idea of the third paragraph?
A.The game’s diverse amusement value.
B.The game’s role beyond entertainment.

C.Time Control: Why Parents Should Limit Gaming Hours.
D.Beyond Play: When a Game became a Real-life’s Savior.
Many parents habitually view online games as mere entertainment or even a
distraction from reality, often associating them with screen addiction or unproductive pastimes. However, a recent
significant event strongly proves that games are not so-called “electronic waste”, but can provide warmth and even
Panicked and feeling a profound sense of urgency, one of the players wisely
contacted the game’s customer service. In the early hours of the following morning, the official “Eggy Party”
account posted an update, confirming that local police had been informed, the child had been successfully located,
and most importantly, he was out of danger and safe.

The game’s positive role goes beyond this single event, Eggy Party has
partnered with groups to support China’s space industry, raising money and sparking young people’s interest in
science…Furthermore, the game has taken part in national projects fighting poverty. On the cultural side, through
the “National Treasures Homecoming” theme of its Season 26, it gently weaves in ideas about cultural heritage,
building a strong sense of pride among its many young users, especially those under the age of 8.(这款游戏的积极

Have you felt tired and frustrated by your schedule or workload lately? If so, you may be overcommitted (过
Overcommitment occurs when you push your boundaries and take on more duties than you can handle at
once. 36 There are plenty of solutions to stop it.
Think before you commit. Before you say “yes” to something, take some time to evaluate the commitment
and your schedule. Can you add this task or activity to your list? Is it something you can complete without
stretching yourself too thin? 37
Set boundaries and stick to them. Making clear boundaries for your professional and personal life is a great
and healthy way to avoid overcommitment. 38 This can be as simple as turning off your phone at a
specific point each night or leaving work behind at the office.
39 Not everything is set in stone. If a new duty comes around that’s more important than others, do
your best to rearrange your to-do list. For instance, when you receive an email from your boss asking you to
complete an assignment for tomorrow morning’s meeting by the end of the day, you can replace the time to work
on a task due at the end of the week with the high-priority task.
Ask for help when you need it. There’s no shame in getting a little extra help now and then, especially when
you’re stressed out. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your boss, coworker, or loved one if you need an extra hand with
a commitment. 40 It is important to remember that it is not weak to ask for help. In fact, it shows that
you are strong enough to voice your own needs.
A.Accommodate to a tight schedule.
B.Adjust your commitments to your schedule.
C.Ask these questions to help decide which task is your top priority.
D.You know your limits, so set them to protect your overall well-being.
E.While many people face overcommitment, it doesn’t have to be a permanent feeling.
F.Sometimes, having even the smallest thing taken off your plate can make a big difference.
G.Ask yourself these questions to help decide whether or not a commitment is worth your energy.
36.空前“Overcommitment occurs when you push your boundaries and take on more duties than you can handle
at once.(过载是指你超越自身极限,一次性承担了超出你处理能力的更多职责。)”
发生的,空后“There are plenty of solutions to stop it.(有很多办法可以阻止它。)”
E 选项“While many people face overcommitment, it doesn’t have to be a permanent feeling.(虽然很多人都面临
37.空前“Can you add this task or activity to your list? Is it something you can complete without stretching
questions to help decide whether or not a commitment is worth your energy.(问问自己这些问题,以帮助你决定
38.空前“Set boundaries and stick to them. Making clear boundaries for your professional and personal life is a
great and healthy way to avoid overcommitment.(设定界限并坚持下去。
说明了要设定工作和生活之间的界限,D 选项“You know your limits, so set them
to protect your overall well-being.(你知道你的极限,所以设定它们来保护你的整体健康。)”
Not everything is set in stone. If a new duty comes around that’s more
important than others, do your best to rearrange your to-do list.(并非所有事情都是一成不变的。
务清单,B 选项“Adjust your commitments to your schedule.(根据你的时间表调整你的承诺。)”
40.空前“There’s no shame in getting a little extra help now and then, especially when you’re stressed out. Don’t
hesitate to reach out to your boss, coworker, or loved one if you need an extra hand with a commitment.(偶尔得到
having even the smallest thing taken off your plate can make a big difference.(有时候,哪怕只是从你的任务清单

Dear Chris,
I’m a student in your Western Art Appreciation course this term. I’ve noticed that quite a few classmates seem
unengaged during class.
One possible reason is that the course materials are somewhat challenging, making it difficult for some to fully
grasp and participate actively. Additionally, the lack of interactive activities may discourage students from voicing
their opinions.
To improve this, I suggest incorporating more group discussions or case studies related to Western art, which
could stimulate interest and encourage participation. Also, providing some background information or simpler
explanations before diving into complex topics might help.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Every morning, Maya stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her hair, smoothing her blouse, checking her
face one more time. “Do I look fine?” she would ask herself again and again.
At school, she felt invisible. Not like Lily, who wore stylish clothes and laughed loudly in the hallway. Not
like Ben, who answered every question loudly, casually and confidently. “Why can’t I be more like them?” she
thought to herself.
Last week, the school announced the annual speech contest—Find Your Voice. Maya’s heart jumped. She
had written poems in secret for years—about stars, silence, and the way light falls through leaves. This could be her
chance to be heard.
Still, she hesitated.
She watched Lily sign up with a smile, Ben with a confident wave. No one else seemed afraid.
That night, she opened her notebook. She read her own poems—once, twice. Her voice was soft, but the
words felt true.
The next day, she took a deep breath and added her name to the list.
The night before the tryouts, she practiced in her room. “I believe…” she began—then stopped. Her hands
trembled. She tried again, but her throat closed up.
On the day of the tryouts, she arrived early. One by one, students performed—bold, loud, even funny. Some
made the judges laugh. Then it was her turn.
She stood up. The room went quiet. She opened her mouth—but nothing came out. Her face burned. Her
hands shook. She whispered, “Sorry,” and ran out.
In an empty art room, she sat on the floor, head in her hands.
“Hey.”
She looked up. It was Mr. Chen, the drama teacher, holding a cup of tea. “Tough moment?” he asked, sitting
beside her.
Maya nodded, eyes wet. “I wanted to say something real... but I froze.”
Mr. Chen smiled gently. “Sometimes the quietest voices have the most to say.” He paused. “You don’t have
to be loud to be heard.”
Mr. Chen took Maya’s notebook and paged through it.

Mr. Chen took Maya’s notebook and paged through it. A look of amazement crossed his face. “Maya,” he
said, “these poems are extraordinary. Your words carry such depth and emotion. You have a gift, and it doesn’t need
to be shouted out. A soft voice can be equally, if not more, powerful.” He then gave her some practical advice, like
visualizing a supportive audience and speaking from the heart. “Trust in your words. They are your strength,” he
added. Maya felt a newfound confidence building up inside her.
The next afternoon in the classroom, Maya stood before her fellow classmates. Her palms were sweaty, but
