Option B by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant
Part personal experiences and part self-help book. Option B is about the journey of the former Facebook
Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg, who lost her husband to a sudden brain injury in 2015. While
sharing her story, Sandberg and coauthor Adan Grant reveal research-based tips on how to recover after a big loss.

discovering more meaning in life, and seeing new possibilities”, people can make sense of their experiences and not
only recover but also grow up from a disaster.
The Nature Fix by Florence Williams
Florence Williams describes our complicated connection with the natural world and nature’s impact on our
health, creativity, and happiness. She takes readers on an entertaining tour of “forest bathing” in Japan, where

WEIGHING IN ON WEIGHT: CALCULATIONS TOOLS
Many people check their body mass index (BMI) to see if they are overweight. However, this health tool can
sometimes be misleading. Now, a more accurate alternative, the body roundness index (BRI), is available to assess
excessive visceral fat content (内脏脂肪含量) . What is BMI?
BMI = weight (kg) / height2 (m)
Limitations of BMI.
* BMI, which only measures your height and weight, cannot distinguish between muscle and fat, which might
lead to misleading results.
* Athletes, who have less body fat and more muscle, tend to have a higher BMI because muscle weighs more
than fat.
* The BMI of people with thin limbs (四肢) and a pot belly may be normal or even low, although they
possibly have excessive visceral fat.
What is BRI?
Advantages of BRI
* BRI is used to assess whether the body’s visceral fat content is within the normal range. It is calculated
based on height and waist circiumference measurements. The higher your BRI, the more visceral fat you have.
* Compared with BMI, BRI can effectively filter (过滤) out those with large muscle mass. This enables it to
more accurately determine people with high visceral fat content.
1.If a person with 181cm weighs 83.5kg, which category does his BMI fall into?
A.Underweight.
B.Normal weight.
C.Overweight.
D.Obesity.
2.What can we learn about the limitation of BMI?
A.It fails to reflect body fat.
B.It causes anxiety disorder.
C.It leaves health problems untreated.
D.It brings about body image problems.
3.How does BRI improve assessment accuracy?
A.By tracking dietary preference.
B.By monitoring weight continuously.
C.By using advanced scanning technology.
D.By incorporating waistline measurements.

If you plan to have an expressive trip during 2025, the following are some destinations you can carefully
consider.
Costa Rica, Guanacaste
Costa Rica is well-known for its positive, easy-going outlook that invites travelers to slip off their shoes and
sink onto a beach blanket, or speed through the rainforest canopy on a rope line. The best time to visit for the best
beach days is in January and February. Many restaurants here automatically add a 10% service charge.
The Athens Riviera, Athens
A long-kept secret is finally out: The 35-mile stretch of coast known as the Athens Riviera is becoming the
city’s second center. With its pleasant beaches, day-to-night bars and busy shops and restaurants, it’s hard to deny
the area’s attraction. If you’re aiming for beach-perfect weather, the most suitable period to come here is between
May and September.
Antwerp, Belgium
Since the Renaissance, Antwerp has been a global standard-bearer of design. Today, it’s more dynamic than
ever. As other cities battle with overtourism, creative, uncrowded Antwerp increasingly seems like the place to be.
Spring and fall bring the best weather, but the city is less crowded in the summer. Tipping is not required, as many
restaurants add a 5% to 10% service charge to the bill.
Bahia, Brazil
Bahia is known for its tree-lined coast, with quiet beaches, rough Chapada Diamantina National Park (an ideal
destination for hiking and waterfall spotting) and a historic center recognized by UNESCO. The best time to visit is
during the summer months (as a reminder, in the southern hemisphere, that’s December to March), for great
weather and Carnival.
1.When are travelers recommended to visit the Athens Riviera?
A.In January.
B.In March.
C.In July.
D.In December.
2.What can visitors do in Antwerp?
A.Sunbathe on the beach.
B.Admire some design works.
C.Learn information about a battle.
D.Have an adventure in the rainforest.

In 2018 we created the Student Podcast Challenge, an opportunity for students all around the US to record
their stories and share them with us. This year’s contest will open on the 6th of next month and close on May 2nd.
Once again it will be open to students in grades 4 through 3. Is it your first time entering our contest? Don’t fret!
We’re here to help.
The basics
Students can make a podcast about any topic they’re interested in, as long as they keep it between three to
eight minutes. The entries should be purely original work by students. Please keep it clean! No offensive language
will be allowed. And students do need to work with an adult to fill out the submission form to enter the contest.
Where to get started
Choosing a good story is just as important as your audio production or editing skills. For example, a favorite
entry from last year was a personal story, reporting on a young person’s experience learning to read with dyslexia
(阅读障碍) and discussions on everyday topics like school lunch and teen fashion. Again, you can choose any topic
you wish to explore.
The selection
Our judges will select a middle school and high school grand prize winner. The grand prize includes a
certificate, a trophy, and an interview from NPR. For fourth graders — a new category we created last year — we’ll
select the best entries and air some or all of those podcasts on NPR programs. In previous years, our winners also
received additional recognition from their schools, and many were interviewed by local media.
Resources
Before you hit the record button, check out our podcasting resources. We cover everything from how to tell a
good story, how to sound like yourself on a microphone to how to use music in your podcast.
For more tips and the latest updates on this year’s contest, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at student podcast
challenge@npr.org. Students, we can’t wait to hear your stories. Good luck!
1.Who are the target participants?
A.NPR’s staff.
B.Students around the US.
C.Podcast lovers.
D.The US students in grades 4 to 3.
2.What could disqualify a podcast entry?
A.Lacking background music.
B.Exceeding the time limit.
C.Choosing a personal topic.
D.Using proper language.
3.What is the text?
A.An announcement post.
B.A school newsletter.
C.A job advertisement.
D.A subscription plan.

Couchsurfing (沙发客) is a service that connects members to a global community of travelers. Use
couchsurfing to find a place to stay or share your home and hometown with travelers. The following is how it
works.
Create a profile
Completely fill out your couchsurfing profile! This will be your home base and is a reflection of you: your
lifestyle and what’s important to you. Here you can tell people if you’re traveling or would like to host. Be sure to
include photos. Don’t have a profile yet? Please click Sign Up Now.
Explore your city
Getting in touch with experienced couchsurfers in your area is the best way to get a feel for how couchsurfing
works. Just head to your city’s Place Page and look at the weekly events happening near you. Click Join, show up
and you’re on your way!
Surf the world
If you’re ready for an adventure, search for the city you plan to visit and look for locals with couches
available. Look through profiles to find people you might want to stay with. When you find a few interesting
potential hosts, carefully review their profiles and send a couchrequest for the dates you’ll be there. We usually
recommend sending about five couchrequests.
List your couch
Once you’ve explored the site and have been to an event or two, consider making your couch, spare room or
air mattress available to travelers. Set your couch status (状态) under Couch Information. You can set it to “Not
Right Now” if you want to be available as a city resource for travelers but are unable to host. You can set it to “No”
if you’re not available or don’t have any extra space, or “Maybe/ Yes” to show up in search results for travelers
who are planning a trip to your area.

B.Submit it to your hosts.
C.Carry it to weekly events.

Four Must-see Night Sky Events in 2025
In the upcoming year, stargazers can anticipate a range of heavenly wonders to get excited for.
Saturn and Venus joint
On January 18, two neighboring worlds of Venus and Saturn will appear less than half a degree apart in the
sky, about 30 — 45 minutes after sunset. Venus, the brighter, will shine a brilliant red, with Saturn next to it
appearing more golden. Though you will be able to see both with the naked eye, binoculars will enhance the view.
Lunar eclipse (月食) and blood moon
During a lunar eclipse, one in 2022 seen in Portugal, light casts a burning glow on the moon’s surface in the
early morning hours of March 14, lasting from 2:26 a.m. to 3:31 a.m. Stargazers can get a great view of the “blood
moon” across the Americas, weather permitting.
Partial solar eclipse
The sky shifting from deep blue at the top, to burning reds on the horizon, the solar eclipse coming March 29,
2025, will have the sun appear as a new moon. Visible across large parts of North America, Europe, and Asia, the
event begins at 4:50 a.m. At 6:47 a.m., the largest part of the sun will be shaded by the moon.
Moon and Mercury meet up
Mercury is tricky to spot because of its closeness to the sun. On June 26, the planet will be easier to glimpse as
it appears next to our moon around 20 — 30 minutes before the twilight fades. Mercury will shine as a faint red of
light to the naked eye.

Here are some of the best music festivals in the UK in 2025.
Field Day
Field Day is a great place to have fun after lining your stomach with the latest vegan food in the super-chill
village green area. But Field Day has serious muso credit too; it’s carefully picked out to include edgy guitar music,
shoegaze, alternative R &. B, smart rap, revered DJs and everything else that’s popular. It also boasts one of

When: May 24
Wilderness Festival

famous colourful sheep wander the surrounding fields. Only downside: It’s kind of remote transport-wise, almost
impossible to get to by any means other than Suffolk’s cows.
When: July 24-27
Houghton Festival
This intimate woodland party is one of the UK’s most praiseworthy new festivals, and it’s easy to see why.
Everything you hear at Houghton is broadcast through the finest sound-systems, selected by Craig Richards, who

Check out these exciting sports around the world, where watching is just as exciting as participating.
Flora-Bama Mullet Toss
Each year in late April, excited beach-goers travel to the Flora-Bama Lounge in Pensacola, USA for one
reason: to see a dead mullet get thrown across the state line between Florida and Alabama. The mullet is a plentiful
fish along the Gulf Coast. It’s often eaten fried. But at this event, this fish doesn’t fry. It flies!
Stone Skimming
On the last weekend in each September, people from around the world head to a tiny Scottish island, each
hoping to win a world champion title. However, getting the title is not easy, as competitors must follow a set of
strict rules: Each participant only has three attempts each round. They won’t be qualified for the next round unless
the skimmed stone bounces on the water surface at least twice.
Tau’a
Tapati Rapa Nui is a competition between tribes (部落) on Easter Island, Chile, where each tribe chooses a
candidate for queen of the festival. Throughout the festivity, different events that earn points to choose the winner
will take place. One of the most well-known ones is Tau’a, a marathon that begins with Vaka Ama (a traditional
boating race) and ends with Natación con Pora (swimming). Between the two races is Aka Venga, which requires
the competitors to carry bunches of bananas that weigh almost 40 kilograms, while they are running.
Kiotoshi
Kiotoshi is held every six years in Suwa, Japan. The ancient tradition goes back centuries. Men and women
cut down selected trees, ride them down a mountain rapidly, and pull them through the town to eventually repair
Suwa Shrine, a complex of four religious buildings. And yes, it is about as dangerous as it seems, but people love it.
