Do you know he will give us a talk?
I don't know whose book this is.
I didn't know who could answer my questions.
He said that he had just bought some apples.
He said he would go there again.
The teacher told her students that practice makes perfect.
Mr. Green told us that the attraction of the earth for all things is called gravity.
He said he takes a walk after dinner every evening.
2
She told me the other day that she is only eight.
Tom said that his father is attending a meeting in London.
He said that he was born in 1998.

3
6. unless 意为“除非”,引导条件状语从句;until 意为“直到...为止”,引导时间状语从句;

A(江苏盐城盐都区西片2015 年第三次月考)
Mr. Harris used to work in Dover, but then he changed his work, and he and his wife moved to another
town. They did not have many friends there, but they soon met a lot of interesting people. After a few
weeks, they often went to dinner or to parties at other people’s houses.
Then Mrs. Harris said to her husband, “We’ve been to a lot of other people’s houses, and now we must
invite them to our house, mustn’t we?”2-1-c-n-j-y
“Yes, certainly,” answered her husband, “A big party will be the easiest thing, won’t it? Then we can

still there at mid-night when the door bell rang and a policeman arrived. He said, “You must stop making a
noise, because someone has complained(抱怨).”
Mr. Harris said he did not want to quarrel with the policeman, so everyone went home. They were
sorry to have to go.
When Mr. and Mrs. Harris were alone again, she said to him. “That was a surprise, wasn’t it? Who
complained about the noise?”

C
Hundreds of years ago, news was carried from place to place by people on foot or by horse. It took
days, weeks and sometimes months for people to receive news. Now it is possible to send words and
pictures around the world in seconds(秒). Billions of people learn about news stories of their own country
and all over the world every day, either by watching TV or reading newspapers.
Newspapers have been an important part of everyday life since the 18th century. Many countries have
hundreds of different newspapers. How do newspaper editors(编辑) decide which news stories to print(印
Why do they print some stories and not others? What makes a good newspaper story?
Firstly, it is important to report new stories. TV stations can report news much faster than newspapers.
Yet, newspapers give more about the same story. They may also look at the story in another way, or they
may print completely(完全地) different stories to those on TV.
Secondly, a news story has to be interesting and unusual. People don't want to read stories about
everyday life. As a result, many stories are about some kind of danger and seem to be "bad" news. For
example, newspapers never print stories about planes landing safely, instead they print stories about plane
accidents.
Another factor(因素) is also very important in many news stories. Many people are interested in news
in foreign countries, but more prefer to read stories about people, places and events(事件) in their own
country. So the stories on the front page in Chinese newspapers are usually very different from the ones in
British, French and American newspapers.
11. According(根据) the passage, how do people learn about news stories in the world now?
9
A.
They carry news stories and tell others from place to place oh foot or by horse.
B.
They tell each other what they have seen with their eyes.
C.
They watch TV or read newspapers.
D.
They listen to the radio every day.
12. The difference between newspaper stories and TV news reports is that
.
A.
people can learn more about the same news story from a newspaper
B.
people can read the news story more quickly in a newspaper
C.
people can read news stories in other countries
D.
people can read news' stories about their own country
13. To make a good newspaper story, how many factors does the passage talk about?
A.
Two.
B.
Three.
C.
Five.
D.
Six.
14. According to the passage, which of the following can you most possibly watch on TV?
A.
You often play football with your friends after school.
B.
Your teacher has got a cold.
C.
A tiger in the city zoo has run out and hasn't been caught.
D.
The bike in the front of your house is lost.
15. Which of the following is Not True of this passage?
A.
News stories on the front page of every country are always the same.
B.
People like to read interesting and unusual news.
C.
Not only TV but also newspapers can help people to learn what is happening around the
world.
D.
Newspapers have been an important part of everyday life for more than three hundred
years.
D
Which is better, Radio or Television?
About fifty years ago, when television first came out, people thought that radio was no longer useful.
Television has both sounds(声音) and pictures. It is much more real and interesting to watch television than
to listen to the radio.
However, fifty years later radio is still very popular and it will be here for a long time. One reason is
that we don't need to see pictures when we listen to the music on the radio. In fact, listening with your eyes
closed is the best way to listen to a piece of music. You can think yourself on a sandy beach or up high on a
mountain. In other words, you can create (make) your own pictures.
Moreover, while listening to the radio, you don't have to take your eyes off your work. For example,
you can listen to the radio and drive at the same time. Or you can read a book and listen to the radio.
Television, on the other hand, doesn't have this advantage(优势).
A radio is much smaller than a television. You can take a radio anywhere and turn it on anytime you
want. In a quiet place you can use headphones to listen to the news or music on the radio. In this way (用这
种方式) you won't disturb(打扰) anybody. Moreover, a radio is much cheaper than a television. For less
than $20 you can buy a small radio and have fun with it.
