A. save 拯救;B. enrich 丰富;C. devote 奉献;D. spare 抽出。
故选A 项。
痫发作的声音,于是她开始担心起来。A. threatened 受到威胁的;B. trapped 被困的;C. concerned 担心的;
D. annoyed 恼怒的。根据后文“asked what was going on and if he was OK”可知,听到异常声音后她感到
故选C 项。
A. eventually 最终;B.
根据前文“heard what she could only describe as a
A. action 行动;B. order 命令;C.
根据前文“the non-emergency number would work”以及后文“for talking

A. accidentally 偶然地;B.
根据后文“in the US”可知,美国的迪亚
A. age 年龄;B. name 名字;C. number 号码;D.

下却对发生的事一无所知。”艾丹的母亲说。A. relieved 宽慰的;B. shocked 震惊的;C. puzzled 困惑的;
D. bored 无聊的。根据“that we could be downstairs and not know anything was happening”可知,父母对于自

根据文章SaveAs Writers Prize 部分中“The contest commemorates the 250th anniversary
of the birth of artist J. M.W.
Paul Cave Prize 部分中“In honour of publisher Paul Astley Cave, who died in 2010, the competition invites
original entries of: poetry up to 30 lines;(为了纪念2010 年去世的出版人保罗·阿斯特利·凯夫,比赛邀请原创
根据文章Aurora Prize 部分中“The entry fee is £9 for the first entry and £7 for any
subsequent entries.(第一个作品参赛的报名费为9 英镑,以后参赛的作品报名费为7 英镑。)”和
SaveAs

B
It was my last class before summer break, and I was finishing up the first year of a Master of Fine Arts
(MFA) program in poetry. Unsure if I deserved a place in the program, I worried I wasn’t as talented as my peers.
When the professor asked about our summer plans, I panicked. I didn’t want to appear idle, so without much
thought, I blurted out “gardening”. Surprisingly, my professor nodded and mentioned Emily Dickinson loved
gardening.
Emily Dickinson, a great American poet, studied plants as a child. But I was in my late twenties, lived in a
New York apartment and had no gardening experience.
A few days later, I was standing in line at a store and spotted some seedlings. I thought I should get
something. At least I could say I had tried gardening. Wait, was that a jalapeno I picked it up.
Back home, I called an urban farmer friend. He told me that jalapenos aren’t houseplants and need plenty of
sunlight to thrive. I didn't have outdoor garden space, but I had a pot, some soil and plenty of ambition.
Over the summer, the plant grew, not enormous but bigger. I was proud. Maybe I didn’t have a black thumb
after all.
I started the second year of my MFA, and then — as sometimes happens in New York — I had to move out
of my apartment. I stayed with my friends for a while, and my jalapeno came with me. By the time I found my own
apartment, it was almost December and my jalapeno was suffering: many of its leaves had fallen off. I set it next to
a window by the kitchen sink, and hoped for the best.
I continued to work hard in school. Then spring came. My jalapeno plant came back to life. It grew bigger,
with new leaves. And it flowered when I submitted my graduate thesis — a book of poems — in May.
I was washing some dishes one day when my professor called. “Your poems are strong,” he said. “You’ve
come very far.” I’d done it! I went back to the dishes, but something was off. The flowers on my jalapeno were
gone. Had I done something wrong? I peered closer. Where a flower had been, a tiny green fruit pushed through.
24.Why did the professor mention Emily Dickinson?
A.To explain Dickinson’s impact.
B.To introduce a literary reference.
C.To justify gardening as meaningful.
D.To assess the author’s confidence.
25.What does the underlined phrase “a black thumb” probably mean?
A.A short and thick finger.
B.A talent for farming.
C.Inability to do gardening.
D.Unexpected good fortune.
26.Which of the following best describe the author’s MFA journey?
A.Creative but complex.
B.Challenging but fulfilling.
C.Systematic but eventful.
D.Interesting but demanding.
27.What does the author’s experience show?
A.Still waters run deep.
B.Fortune favors the bold.
C.Well begun is half done.
D.Patience bears a golden fruit.
I didn’t want to appear idle, so without much thought, I blurted out
“gardening”. Surprisingly, my professor nodded and mentioned Emily Dickinson loved gardening.
Over the summer, the plant grew, not enormous but bigger. I was proud.
Maybe I didn’t have a black thumb after all.
Unsure if I deserved a place in the program, I worried I wasn’t as talented
as my peers.
had to move out of my apartment... my jalapeno was suffering: many of its leaves had fallen off (我不得不搬出公
It flowered when I submitted my
graduate thesis — a book of poems — in May.
了)”以及最后一段中的教授评价“Your poems are strong,” he said. “You’ve come very far.”
C
Do you spend hours scrolling through social media every day? A recent study suggests that excessive social
media use may affect teenagers’ ability to concentrate. Conducted by researchers from Peking University, the study
surveyed 2,000 teenagers aged 13 to 18 across China.
The study found that teenagers who spend more than 3 hours a day on social media are 2.5 times more likely
to have difficulty concentrating in class than those who spend less than 1 hour. “Social media platforms are
designed to attract users’ attention with short videos, quick updates, and constant notifications,” explained Dr.
Zhang, the lead researcher. “This frequent switching of attention makes it hard for teenagers to focus on a single
task for a long time.”
In addition, the study revealed that excessive social media use is associated with poor sleep quality, which
further impacts concentration. Teenagers who use social media before bedtime tend to fall asleep later and have
more fragmented sleep. “Sleep is crucial for memory consolidation and cognitive development,” Dr. Zhang said.
“Poor sleep makes it difficult for teenagers to stay focused during the day.”
However, the study also noted that not all social media use is harmful. “Moderate use, such as using social
media to learn new knowledge or communicate with friends, can have positive effects,” Dr. Zhang added. “The key
is to maintain a balance between online and offline activities.”
Professor Wang, a child psychologist, emphasized the importance of parental guidance: “Parents should help
their children set reasonable time limits for social media use and encourage them to engage in more face-to-face
interactions and physical activities.”
28.What is the main idea of paragraph 2?
A.The purpose of the study.
B.The impact of social media on concentration.
C.The design of social media platforms.
D.The methods used in the study.
29.According to the study, what is another effect of excessive social media use?
A.Poor sleep quality.
B.Lack of friends.
C.Lower academic performance.
D.Increased physical illness.
30.What does Dr. Zhang think of moderate social media use?
A.It is a waste of time.
B.It can be beneficial.
C.It should be avoided.
D.It causes sleep problems.
31.What advice does Professor Wang give to parents?
A.Forbid their children from using social media.
B.Monitor their children’s online activities at all times.
C.Help their children balance social media use and real-life activities.
D.Let their children decide how much time to spend on social media.
【答案】28.B 29.A 30.B 31.C
The study found that teenagers who spend more than 3 hours a day on social
media are 2.5 times more likely to have difficulty concentrating in class than those who spend less than 1 hour.( 这
In addition, the study revealed that excessive social media use is associated with
故选A。
Moderate use, such as using social media to learn new knowledge or
communicate with friends, can have positive effects,” Dr. Zhang added.(张博士补充道:“适度使用,比如利用
Professor Wang, a child psychologist, emphasized the importance of parental
guidance: “Parents should help their children set reasonable time limits for social media use and encourage them to
engage in more face-to-face interactions and physical activities.”(儿童心理学家王教授强调了家长指导的重要性:
D
Will there ever be another Einstein? This is the undercurrent of conversation at Einstein memorial meetings
throughout the year. A new Einstein will emerge, scientists say. But it may take a long time. After all, more than
200 years separated Einstein from his nearest rival, Isaac Newton.
Many physicists say the next Einstein hasn’t been born yet, or is a baby now. That’s because the quest for a
unified theory that would account for all the forces of nature has pushed current mathematics to its limits. New
math must be created before the problem can be solved.
But researchers say there are many other factors working against another Einstein emerging anytime soon.
For one thing, physics is a much different field today. In Einstein’s day, there were only a few thousand
physicists worldwide, and the theoreticians who could intellectually rival Einstein probably would fit into a

Education is different, too. One crucial aspect of Einstein’s training that is overlooked is the years of
philosophy he read as a teenager — Kant, Schopenhauer and Spinoza, among others. It taught him how to think
independently and abstractly about space and time, and it wasn’t long before he became a philosopher himself.
“The independence created by philosophical insight is — in my opinion — the mark of distinction between a
mere artisan (工匠) or specialist and a real seeker after truth,” Einstein wrote in 1944.
And he was an accomplished musician. The interplay between music and math is well known. Einstein
would furiously play his violin as a way to think through a knotty physics problem.
Today, universities have produced millions of physicist s. There aren’t many jobs in science for them, so they
go to Wall Street and Silicon Valley to apply their analytical skills to more practical — and rewarding — efforts.
“Maybe there is an Einstein out there today,” said Columbia University physicist Brian Greene “but it would
be a lot harder for him to be heard.”
Especially considering what Einstein was proposing.
“The actual fabric of space and time curving? My God, what an idea!” Greene said at a recent gathering at
the Aspen Institute. “It takes a certain type of person who will bang his head against the wall because you believe
you’ll find the solution.”
Perhaps the best examples are the five scientific papers Einstein wrote in his “miracle year” of1905. These
“thought experiments” were pages of calculations signed and submitted to the prestigious journal Annalen der
Physik by a virtual unknown. There were no footnotes or citations.
What might happen to such a submission today?
“We all get papers like those in the mail,” Greene said. “We put them in the junk file.”
32.What do scientists seem to agree upon, judging from the first two paragraphs?
A.Einstein pushed mathematics almost to its limits.
B.It will be some time before a new Einstein emerges.
C.It will take another Einstein to build a unified theory.
D.No physicist is likely to surpass Einstein in the next 200 years.
33.What was critical to Einstein’s success?
A.His solid foundation in math theory.
B.His independent and abstract thinking.
C.His talent as an accomplished musician. D.His untiring effort to fulfill his potential.
34.What does the author tell us about physicist s today?
A.They tend to neglect training in analytical skills.
B.They are very good at solving practical problems.
C.They often go into fields yielding greater financial benefits.
D.They attach great importance to publishing academic papers.

Recently, campaigners have encouraged us to buy local food. This reduces “food miles”, that is, the distance
food travels to get from the producer to the retailer. They reason that the higher the food miles, the more carbon
emissions. Buying local food, therefore, has a lower carbon footprint and is more environmentally friendly.
However, the real story is not as simple as that. If our aim is to reduce carbon emissions, we must look at the
whole farming process, not just transportation. Other processes, including fertilization, storage, heating and
irrigation, contribute much more.
In fact, imported food often has a lower carbon footprint than locally grown food. Take apples for example.
In autumn, when apples are harvested, the best option for a British resident is to buy British apples. However, the
apples we buy in winter or spring have been kept refrigerated for months, and this uses up a lot of energy. In spring,
therefore, it is more energy-efficient to import them from New Zealand, where they are in season. Heating also uses
a lot of energy, which is why growing tomatoes in heated greenhouses in the UK is less environmentally friendly
than importing them from Spain, where the crop grows well in the local climate.
We must also take into account the type of transport. Transporting food by air creates about 50 times more
emissions than shipping it. However, only a small proportion of goods are flown to the consumer country, and these
are usually high value, perishable items which we cannot produce locally. Even then, these foods may not have a
higher carbon footprint than locally grown food. For example, beans flown in from Kenya are grown in sunny
fields using manual labour and natural fertilizers, unlike in Britain, where we use oil-based fertilizers and diesel
machinery. Therefore, the total carbon footprint is still lower.
It’s also worth remembering that a product’s journey does not end at the supermarket. The distance
consumers travel to buy their food, and the kind of transport they use will also add to its carbon footprint. So
driving a long way to shop for food will negate any environmental benefits of buying locally grown produce.
40.Why is buying local food promoted by campaigners?
41.What makes locally grown food use more energy than imported food?
42.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
If aiming to reduce carbon emissions, people should consider the whole farming process, the type of
transport and a product’s journey whose destination is the supermarket.
43.Excluding environmental concerns, would you prefer to buy local food or imported food? Why?(In about 40
words)
40.Because the higher the food miles, the more carbon emissions. Buying local food, therefore, has a
lower carbon footprint and is more environmentally friendly. 41.Refrigerating locally grown food for months
and growing it in heated greenhouses. 42.If aiming to reduce carbon emissions, people should consider
the whole farming process, the type of transport and a product’s journey whose destination is the
supermarket.
A product’s journey does not end at the supermarket. The distance consumers travel to buy their food, and the kind
of transport they use will also add to its carbon footprint. 43 .version 1: I would choose local food. First,
purchasing local food supports domestic farmers and businesses, contributing to regional economic growth.
Second, local food typically often reflects seasonal availability, which enhances taste and quality, encouraging a
natural diet aligned with the environment.(40 words)
version 2: I would choose imported food. It offers greater variety and access to unique products unavailable locally,
such as exotic fruits or specialty cheeses. Imported food allows me to explore different cuisines and enjoy flavors
from around the world. This diversity enriches my dining experience and broadens my culinary horizons. (49
words)
Recently, campaigners have encouraged us to buy local food. This reduces
“food miles”, that is, the distance food travels to get from the producer to the retailer. They reason that the higher
the food miles, the more carbon emissions. Buying local food, therefore, has a lower carbon footprint and is more
Because the higher the
food miles, the more carbon emissions. Buying local food, therefore, has a lower carbon footprint and is more
environmentally friendly.
However, the apples we buy in winter or spring have been kept refrigerated
for months, and this uses up a lot of energy. In spring, therefore, it is more energy-efficient to import them from
New Zealand, where they are in season. Heating also uses a lot of energy, which is why growing tomatoes in heated
greenhouses in the UK is less environmentally friendly than importing them from Spain, where the crop grows well
Refrigerating locally grown food for months and growing it in heated
greenhouses.
It’s also worth remembering that a product’s journey does not end at the
supermarket. The distance consumers travel to buy their food, and the kind of transport they use will also add to its
If aiming to reduce carbon emissions, people should
consider the whole farming process, the type of transport and a product’s journey whose destination is the
supermarket.
A product’s journey does not end at the supermarket. The distance consumers travel to buy their food, and the kind
of transport they use will also add to its carbon footprint.
故答案为version 1: I would choose local food.
First, purchasing local food supports domestic farmers and businesses, contributing to regional economic growth.
words)

Dear Jim,
I’m glad to know your school is organizing an activity on “Shaping School Culture” and you’re seeking my
advice. My suggestion is to launch a “Book Exchange Corner”, where students can share and trade their favorite
books. This not only promotes reading but also encourages cultural exchanges as books from different backgrounds
can introduce diverse perspectives, which can enrich our campus culture.
Additionally, organizing regular “Cultural Talks” by inviting students or teachers to share their cultural
experiences would be beneficial. Such talks can deepen our understanding of various cultures and foster a more
inclusive school environment.
I hope these ideas help, and good luck with your proposal!
Yours,
Li Hua
