As a major consumer of durians (榴莲), China has long relied on imports from countries like Thailand and
Vietnam 1 (meet) market demand.
Since 2023, Mengla county in Xishuangbanna 2 (introduce) several high-quality durian species,
including Monthong, Black Thorn, and Musang King, covering 3 planting area of 66.67 hectares. Current
growth observations indicate that the durian plants have a high survival rate and are growing well, 4 some
early-planted trees already flowering and bearing fruit.
Durian is a typical tropical crop 5 grows in warm, humid environments, with a suitable growth
temperature usually between 25℃ and 30℃, and 6 (have) strict requirements for water, soil, and sunlight.
Yunnan shares an ecological environment similar to northern Thailand and Vietnam, 7 (give) it a natural
edge in tropical fruit planting.
The province’s “durian map” is gradually expanding. In Jinping county of Honghe, a 3.3-hectare nursery is
planting dozens of durian 8 (variety) from China and abroad, covering different ripening periods and
flavor profiles. Meanwhile, Lincang and Dehong have also started some 9 (experiment) planting
projects.
Experts say that 10 commercial production is still some way off, Yunnan’s progress marks an
encouraging step toward what locals jokingly call “durian freedom”.

China’s food market is being reshaped by the rise of “pre-prepared dishes”. Once 11 (regard) as a
niche (小众的) convenience, they now range from semi-finished stir-fries to fully cooked meals that only need
reheating. In the past few years, the category 12 (balloon) into a multibillion-yuan industry, fueled by
busier lifestyles, advances in processing and official support that has turned 13 began as a consumer trend
into a strategic priority.
14 (analyze) expect the market’s value to top 749 billion yuan by 2026. Investors have piled in:
from food processors to cold-chain logistics (物流) providers. The latter 15 (be) critical. Without reliable
refrigeration, the promise of scale collapse. Progress has been made, but gaps remain in building 16 cost-
effective distribution network.
Policy has kept pace. In 2022 Guangdong issued “Ten Measures” 17 (promote) the sector while in
2023, the central government mentioned pre-prepared meals in its annual No.1 Document, 18 (place) them
on the national strategic agenda. Yet that same year laid bare the lack of comprehensive national standards, sparking
calls for 19 (clear) definitions and tighter oversight.
Regulators face a delicate balance: encourage innovation while protecting consumers. The challenge is to
ensure that the appeal 20 convenience does not come at the cost of nutrition, quality or the authenticity (地道性)
that makes cuisine so central to culture.
