选项。
I love football. I started playing when I was nine years old, and football got me through difficult periods. It
helped make me who I am today. And even though I did not 16 the National Football League (NFL), I
sometimes think I got more from 17 that dream, but not realizing it.
My romance with football started when my dad 18 me, kicking and screaming, to join a league. I
had no 19 to be there. I was naturally 20 and the smallest kid by far. 21 turned to
admiration when I met my coach, Jim Graham, a huge and strong guy. And he was really 22 and old-
fashioned.
Coach Graham used to push me 23 . I remember one practice 24 . “You’re doing it all
wrong. Pausch. Go back Do it again” I tried to do what he wanted. It wasn’t enough. “You 25 me, Pausch
Go to do push-ups after 26 !”
When I was finally 27 , one of the 28 coaches came up to me. “Coach Graham pushed
you pretty hard, didn’t he?” he said.
“That’s a good thing,” the assistant told me. “When you’re doing badly and nobody says anything to you
anymore, that means they’ve 29 you.”
That 30 has influenced my whole life. When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody’s
willing to tell you anymore, that’s a bad place to be. You may not want to hear it, but your 31 are often the
ones telling you they still love you and care about you, and want to make you 32 .
When Coach Graham first got hold of me, I was such a weak kid with no 33 and no physical
strength. But he made me realize that if I work hard enough, there will be things I can do 34 that I can’t do
today. Even now, having just turned forty-seven, I can give you a three-point stance (三点式站姿) that any NFL
lineman would be 35 of. I really felt grateful to Coach Graham for what he had done to me, though it
surely didn’t feel good at that time to do so many push-ups after practice.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

The Future Stars General Introduction
The Future Stars was set up in 1988 as a non-profit service center for child development devoted to providing
quality child care in a loving and educational environment for children 6 weeks to 6 years of age. Our funds mainly
come from public donations.
A healthy curiosity for learning is the most important quality for early childhood development. We aim at
offering high quality developmentally age-appropriate activities for early childhood, the most critical time of child
development, so that they can do better after they start formal schooling.
Hours of Operation
Child care will be provided for the child from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday (except for
holidays). Children may not arrive before 7:00 am or remain after 6:00 pm. Should an emergency arises, the parent
should immediately make us know in consideration of our work arrangements. A late charge of $1.00 per minute will
be assessed if the child is not picked up by 6:05 pm. Charges for these services are to be paid directly to the staff
person that has been looking after your child until your arrival; not to the center. Failure to pay late charges may
affect continued services with the center.
Parking
Dropping off and picking up your child can be made from the two main areas, Spring Street and Seventh Street.
Parking is free for parents coming to visit their children in our center. Please do not leave your purse or valuables in
your car and be sure to lock your vehicle.
Tuition (学费)
When it has been confirmed that a position is available for your child, you must pay a registration (注册) fee of
$200 per child.
The weekly tuition fee is $98.00. You can make payments either by credit card or in cash on Monday every
week. If your payment is not made by Tuesday at 9:00 am, you will be charged a $25.00 late fee.
For more information, please call 434-293-6110 or visit at www.childdevelopmentcenter.com.

Elizabeth Keyton, originally from Georgia, the USA, married Arjun, a Malayali. She wanted to learn his
mother tongue to strengthen their family bond. In the process, she created an Instagram page called “Elikutty”
through which she now teaches Malayalam to thousands of people.
“I always loved hearing people speak different languages, but when my mother from Serbia spoke Serbian at
home, my father showed no interest in learning it, leaving frequent misunderstanding and communicating problems.
That’s when I decided that if I met someone from a different culture, I would try to learn his language, which would
be good for us and our family,” says Elizabeth to The Better India.
“So when my relationship with Arjun started looking serious because of difficulties in communicating, I
decided to learn Malayalam. However, I found that there weren’t enough resources to learn the language. Most
books available were outdated or made for children. A small amount of material was often too difficult for casual (非
正式的) language learners like me,” says the 35-year-old. “Later, I struggled to find a teacher suited to my needs and
some grammar resources online.”
As an English teacher, Elizabeth used her teaching skills to learn Malayalam. She wrote notes and made
doodles (涂鸦) to learn the letters. “For me, the best way to learn is by explaining it to someone else, so I made an
Instagram page in 2018 to share my notes and small drawings,” she says. Starting out with 1,000 followers in 2018,
her Instagram page has over 70,000 followers today. She is pleased to make learning Malayalam fun and easy.
“I have seen what happens when languages are ignored in my own house. My brother doesn’t know Serbian,
which means his family won’t. It’s important to know English as it is a global language and helps when you go
abroad, but the same respect should be given to native languages. They are the true way to a person’s heart.” says
Elizabeth.(333)

A.Rejection from her husband.
B.Failure to find a native partner.

A.Collect learning tips.
B.Help her in self-study.
C.Practice small drawings.
D.Teach others Malayalam.
44.What is Elizabeth’s opinion on language learning?
A.Using social media as the primary tool. B.Respecting our inner thinking at all times.

D.Treating official languages and mother tongues
equally.

For lots of kids, toddlerhood (幼儿期) is an important time for friendship. Studies show that the earlier kids
learn to form positive relationships, the better they are at relating to others as teenagers and adults. Playing together
also helps these kids practice social behaviors, such as kindness, sharing, and cooperation.
Even so, how quickly your child develops into a social creature may also depend on his temperament. Some
toddlers are very social, but others are shy. In addition, the way that toddlers demonstrate that they like other
children is markedly different from what adults think of as expressions of friendship. Research at Ohio State
University in Columbus found that a toddler’s way of saying “I like you” during play is likely to come in the form of
copying a friend’s behavior.
This seemingly unusual way of demonstrating fondness can result in unpleasant behavior. Regardless of how
much they like a playmate, they may still grab his toys, refuse to share, and get bossy. But experts say that this is a
normal and necessary part of friendship for kids this age. Through play experiences, toddlers learn social rules.
That’s why it’s so important to take an active role in your toddler’s social encounters by setting limits and offering
frequent reminders of what they are. When you establish these guidelines, explain the reasons behind them.
Begin by helping your child learn sympathy (“Ben is crying. What’s making him so sad?”), then suggest how
he could resolve the problem (“Maybe he would feel better if you let him play the ball.”). When your child shares or
shows empathy (同理心) toward a friend, praise him (“Ben stopped crying You made him feel better.”).
Another way to encourage healthy social interaction is by encouraging kids to use words — not fists — to
express how they feel. It’s also important to be mindful of how your child’s personality affects playtime. Kids are
easy to get angry when they’ re sleepy or hungry, so schedule playtime when they’ re refreshed.
46.What does it indicate when toddlers copy their playmates’ behavior?
A.They are interested in acting.
B.They are shy with the strangers.
C.They are fond of their playmates.
D.They are tired of playing games.
47.What is the meaning of the underlined word in paragraph 2?
A.Behavior.
B.Talent.
C.Enthusiastic.
D.Character.
48.What does the author suggest parents do for their kids?
A.Design games for them.
B.Find them suitable playmates.
C.Play together with them.
D.Help them understand social rules.
49.What is the function of the quoted statements in paragraph 4?
A.Giving examples.
B.Explaining concepts. C.Providing evidence. D.Making
comparisons.
50.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.How Children Adapt to Changes
B.How to Be Role Model for Children
C.How Your Baby Learns to Love
D.How to communicate with Your Kid

Many people believe that multitasking is an efficient way to get more done in less time, assuming it boosts
productivity in both personal and professional lives. This common perception suggests that handling multiple tasks
at once allows individuals to maximize their time. However, research and real-world examples suggest that this
belief might be misguided.
Supporters of multitasking claim that it allows people to combine various activities into a smooth workflow,
potentially resulting in improved time management. For example, a student might prepare for an exam while
listening to music, thinking it helps them stay focused, or a professional might answer emails during a conference
call, believing it makes their workday more efficient. The concept is that by handling multiple tasks at once, one can
achieve more within the same time frame.
However, numerous studies have shown that multitasking often has the opposite effect. Research conducted
by Stanford University found that people who frequently multitask are actually less efficient at handling multiple
tasks than those who focus on one task at a time. These multitaskers struggle to organize thoughts and ignore
unnecessary information, leading to decreased productivity. The American Psychological Association also notes that
the cognitive cost of switching tasks can consume up to 40% of productive time, which significantly undermines
efficiency.
Real-world examples show the negative aspects of multitasking. A driver texting while navigating traffic is
more likely to have an accident due to divided attention. Similarly, an employee constantly switching between tasks
may produce lower quality work and take longer to complete projects. In contrast, companies that encourage focused
work periods, such as using the Pomodoro Technique, report improved productivity and job satisfaction among
employees.
To truly embrace single-tasking, several strategies can be applied. Prioritizing tasks by urgency and
importance is key, using tools like Trello or Asana to track progress. Techniques such as the Pomodoro Technique,
which involves working on a single task for 25 minutes followed by a short break, help maintain focus and prevent
burnout.
Minimizing distractions is also crucial. Establishing “quiet hours” for focused work without interruptions, and
setting specific times for checking emails, can help maintain concentration. Additionally, building a workplace
culture that values quality over quantity encourages thorough task completion.
Reevaluating our approach to productivity is essential. As more people recognize the benefits of focused
work, a shift towards more effective task management may occur, leading to better outcomes for individuals and
organizations alike. By putting these strategies into action, we can build a work environment that is more productive
and rewarding.
51.What do many people believe about multitasking according to the first paragraph?
A.It reduces stress.
B.It enhances creativity

D.It boosts productivity.
52.What do supporters of multitasking believe it helps achieve?

A.Reduces.
B.Measures.
C.Achieves.
D.Encourages.
54.What is one impact of multitasking mentioned in the fourth paragraph?
A.It improves job satisfaction.
B.It reduces task completion time.
C.It causes divided attention.
D.It increases productivity.
55.What is the author’s intention in writing this passage?
A.To describe the history of multitasking.
B.To explain how to multitask effectively.

第三部分:写作
第一节:阅读表达(共5 小题;每小题2 分,满分10 分)
阅读下面短文,并根据题目要求用英语回答问题(请注意问题后的字数要求)。
I was on a motorcycle trip in Spain. The temperatures were above 40 degrees every day, and I would finish
each day completely wet in sweat.
One day, as I rode along a hilly road I spotted a cafe shaded by trees. I pulled in and had a rest. Sitting across
from me was a large noisy family. When I finally decided to leave, they were leaving too. Suddenly, the mum
approached me. I know some Spanish, but not enough to understand this woman. I eventually understood she was
saying that I looked hot. “Yes, I am,” I said. She then told me her family would go swimming in a faraway river and
asked if I would like to join them. After I accepted her invitation, she guided me down a path into the forest, across
an ancient stone bridge, and onto a river beach. Her family were already in the water and I dived in. The water was a
delight, cool and seeming to cling (紧贴) to my skin. I didn’t want to overstay my welcome so after ten minutes I
dressed, said goodbye and walked back.
I’ve wondered ever since why the mum did it. She could have just let me go on my own. But despite being
surrounded by a noisy family, she’d noticed this lone stranger sweating away and knew she could help. I think it’s
perhaps easier to be kind to strangers, especially those you don’t share a language with. This stranger — I wouldn’t
recognize her even if I saw her again — also taught me the importance of kindness. I thought of her when a man
with heavy suitcases asked me to show him the way to the way to the correct tube platform at a particularly
complicated station. Of course I said even though I was already late.
56.What was the weather like that day? (no more than 3 words)

57.What did the mum do after the author accepted the invitation? (no more than 10 words)

58.How do you understand the underlined part in Paragraph 3? (no more than 10 words)

59.What lesson did the author learn from the mum? (no more than 10 words)

60.What kindness have you received from a strange? Please explain. (no more than 20 words)
