As I sat in the spaceship, traveling through the vast space, I was amazed by the greatness of the universe.
Our task was to explore a newly-discovered planet, Planet X. The journey was long and filled with 1
. The meteors (流星) we met seemed to be 2 towards us like bullets. It was a(an) 3 moment,
and everyone held their breath as our captain skillfully 4 the ship to avoid the effects.
Finally, we arrived near Planet X. Through the telescope, I saw a planet 5 in a mysterious purple
fog. Landing on the planet was no easy task because the gravity was stronger than we had expected. Our landing
gear (起落架) 6 some damage during the touchdown. 7 , we were all safe in the end.
Stepping out of the ship, I was 8 by a strange-looking landscape. The 9 of the planet
looked like a barren desert with fine sand shining brightly. As I collected samples. I 10 how
insignificant we humans are in this vast universe. Every new 11 here made me more curious about
what else is out there.
After 12 the data collected, we found that there existed some special chemicals on this planet. I
couldn’t wait to 13 more secrets of Planet X. As the sun set, I felt a 14 of excitement and
exhaustion. It was a day of unexpected yet wonderful discoveries and I wondered what 15 we would
experience in the future.

Ever wondered how many drops of water a single penny can hold before spilling? This seemingly simple
experiment reveals the invisible 31 governing liquids and offers a delightful “wow” moment. Let’s
32 the science adventure with only a penny, a dropper (滴管), water, and a steady hand.
First, clean a copper penny to remove dirt or oils — 33 coins work best. Then fill the dropper with
water and begin 34 droplets onto the penny’s surface, one at a time. Watch closely as the water forms a
dome (圆丘), growing taller with each addition. Here’s 35 things get strange: 36 the penny’s
flat surface, the water won’t spill immediately. Instead, it creates a 37 bubble beyond expectations.
The magic lies in surface tension — water molecules (分子) holding together through cohesive forces. Like
an elastic skin, this tension 38 the liquid until gravity overpowers it. Count the drops until the dome
39 ; most trials yield 25 — 40 drops. 40 like water temperature or cleanliness will affect results
41 , as they change molecular bonds.
Science isn’t just for 42 — it often hides in 43 sight. By engaging with everyday
mysteries, you can cultivate a mindset that questions, explores, and 44 . Who knows? You might
discover a new 45 for physics or chemistry while having fun!

I began to study English when I was 10 years old. I learned what I needed to 46 the tests, but
writing felt faraway. Only later, during medical school, did I realize that if I wanted to succeed as a researcher, I
would need to be good at writing and 47 in international journals.
When the time came to write up my 48 , I spent days searching for information and 49

my thoughts into a reasonable structure. After countless hours of 50 and revising, I finally had a 51
I felt the words were my children; I didn't want others to 52 them. So, I didn't seek advice from anyone and
submitted.
When I 53 the first real feedback (反馈) from a reviewer saying,"This 54 doesn't seem
like academic writing", I felt 55 . Although I had tried my best, I clearly needed to do more work on my
writing.
It was not until my professor 56 his early career challenges with publishing that my thoughts
really changed. He told me that journal reviewers had 57 his writing, but that helped him 58 his
draft and become a professor with a large publication record. And later, I changed from seeing feedback as a form
of criticism to seeing it as a valuable source of 59 growth.
Since then, I have 60 sought feedback — in the field of academic writing, we are all lifelong
learners.

The fire raced through Lahaina last August so fast that it killed 100 people and destroyed more than 2200

mental health. Feeling joy again helped me 75 .”

While staying with my grandsons, Jack and Luke, I was injured by a falling metal bar. 76 by their
lack of empathy (同理心), I decided to 77 the issue calmly. I asked them to sit down and said, “I got 78

To her 9 , the next spring the tree bore many fruits. We enjoyed the products of the tree for years to

My early school years were a struggle. I had little interest in many subjects and couldn’t 1 what I

Things didn’t 4 until one sunny afternoon when I saw kids swimming and laughing in a

Surprisingly, I made 13 improvements as well, and finally went to college. When my parents expressed
their complete admiration for my performance, my dignity was largely 14 .
Now, I work as a lifeguard, a mountaineer, and a coach. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you just
need to give yourself a 15 . Everything I’ve done has been driven by a single goal — to realize my potential.

Weeks ago, I was in line to check out in a large store. In front of me was a mom, who was 1 four
large cans of baby formula (配方奶) with a special card. However, the

failed. I badly wanted to pay for
her but something

 3

me — I didn’t want to make the mom feel offended (冒犯) and I was shy.

 4
, she gave up the formula and left. I regretted

 5

  the opportunity to help.
Days ago, I was in the same store and I

 6

another woman behind me had four large cans of baby
formula and coupons (优惠券) in her hand. After I checked out, I hung around, feeling I might have a special

 . I was right. There was a(n)

 8

with the woman’s coupons and she felt sorry for holding up the line.
Gathering my courage and hoping she wouldn’t feel

 9

, I asked if it was OK with her if I paid for her
formula. She agreed because she didn’t want to cause more 1

 0

  to people behind her.
Later, she told me she was having a 1

 1

time and thanked me for helping her out. She asked me why
I 1

 . I said I’d received the same 1

 3

as a young mom and I wanted to pay it forward. She 14
to do so as well.
I didn’t tell her that it was my second chance to help a mom and I was 15 I could seize it.
