Ren became interested in environmental issues as a teen. Like many of her classmates, she once considered
good exam results the most important thing in life. And her parents encouraged her to compete for high marks. However, when she met Jane Goodall and joined her global youth program Roots and Shoots, she developed a
passion for the environment.
While studying environmental engineering in the United States, she was involved in one research on rural
water use in India, which aroused her interest in water issues. She was determined to do something for her
motherland. She founded MyH2O, a data platform that provides information about the quality of groundwater in
villages across the country, so villagers know where to find clean water to stay healthy. It also connects
communities with private companies and non-profit organizations that provide drinking water solutions.
Ren will not be driven by awards. She wants to further her study, and her goal is to bring data-based solutions to
poor areas.

The way you use your cellphones around your family can have an effect on your relationships.
Cellphones can make you feel more connected, but they can also distract(使分心)you and your family
from connecting with each other in person. While some people need to check their phones for work or
emergency(紧急情况)purposes, it’s important to make meaningful connections through face to face
communication.
Some people have trouble putting away their cellphones. They might feel they can’t control how often
they pick up their phones or how long they use them. They might feel the need to often check phones without
a real reason or feel upset if they don’t have an opportunity to use their phones. Using cellphones for work
purposes during family time can increase worries and unhappiness among family members. While using their
cellphones, parents talk to their kids less, reply more slowly, and overreact to being interrupted. And ignoring
their partner while on the phone is linked to lower relationship satisfaction among couples.
Once you’ve given some thought to your own cellphone use, think about the rules you want your family
to follow when you’re together. To get your family on the same page, call a family meeting. Review each
person’s current cellphone use and areas where you think some changes might help. It’s not just about simply
cutting cellphone use down. Instead, consider what you’re using your phone for and what activities you want
to carry out.
For example, are you or your children using phones to stay connected, learn something new, do school
work, or do something else If you have kids, ask their opinions on your own phone use. You might be
surprised by what they have to share. Use good communication skills by practicing active listening and
showing curiosity about what each family member has to say.
Less phone use also usually means less screen time, which enables kids to spend more time outdoors and
be more physically active. When teens spend more time actively with their parents, they tend to set higher
educational goals.
24.What’s the first paragraph mainly about
A.Family members’ connections. B.Cellphones’ new challenges at home.
C.One disadvantage of the cellphones. D.People’s staying away from cellphones.25.How do some people feel when they have no phone at hand
A.Uneasy. B.Uncertain. C.Curious. D.Homesick.
26.Why should a family meeting be held
A.To carry out activities. B.To reach an agreement.
C.To share the latest news. D.To set an example to others.

Emerging economies struggled to grow through the 2010s and pessimism clouds them now. People wonderhow they will pay debts piling up during the pandemic and how they can grow rapidly. The freshest answer to this
problem is the fast-spreading digital revolution. The world's largest emerging market has already demonstrated the
enormous effects of digital technology. As China's old industries have slowed sharply over the past decade, the
booming technology industry has kept the economy growing steadily.
Now China's emerging market peers are getting a push from the same digital engines. Since 2014, more than
10,000 tech firms have been launched in emerging markets—nearly half of them outside China. From Bangladesh
to Egypt, it is easy to find entrepreneurs who worked for Facebook or other US giants before coming home to start
their own companies.
How can it be that the emerging market countries are adopting common digital technologies faster than the
richer countries? One explanation is habit and its absence. In societies filled with stores and services, customers are
often comfortable with the providers they have and slow to abandon them. In countries where people have
difficulty even finding public facilities, a bank or a hospital, they will jump at the first digital option that comes
along. Though only 5% of the Kenyans carry credit cards, more than 70% have access to digital banking.
The digital impact on productivity is visible on the ground, Many governments are moving services online to
make them more transparent and less vulnerable to corruption, perhaps the most feared obstacle to doing business
in the emerging world. Since 2010, the cost of starting a business has been steady in developed countries while
falling sharply in emerging market countries, from 66% to just 27% of the average annual income. Entrepreneurs
can now launch businesses affordably, organizing much of what they need on a smartphone.
The era of rapid digitization has only just begun. This offers many developing economies a revolutionary new
path to catching up with the living standards of the developed world.
28.Which is a result of digital technology for China?
A.Stabilizing its economy.
B.Accumulating its debts.
C.Keeping its old industries booming.
D.Letting its new industries slow sharply.
29.Why does the author mention Kenyans in paragraph 3?
A.To present emerging markets' digital technologies.
B.To show rich nations abandon what they own unwillingly.
C.To present emerging markets accept digital options warmly.
D.To show poor nations have difficulty building public facilities.
30.What plays a key role in the boom of digital businesses in emerging markets?A.The steady annual income.
B.The low cost of launching businesses.
C.The simplified procedure of setting up a business.
D.The thorough removal of the most feared obstacle.
31.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Emerging Economies Are Seeking Their Fortune
B.The Digital Impact Is Huge on Global Productivity
C.The Era of Rapid Digitization Is Around the Corner
D.Digital Technology Will Save Slow Emerging Markets
A 29. C 30. B 31. D
As China's old industries have slowed sharply over the past decade, the
booming technology industry has kept the economy growing steadily.(随着中国的老工业在过去十年中急剧放
故选A。
In countries where people have difficulty even finding public facilities, a bank
or a hospital, they will jump at the first digital option that comes along. Though only 5% of the Kenyans carry
credit cards, more than 70% have access to digital banking.(在那些人们甚至连找公共设施、银行或医院都困难
The digital impact on productivity is visible on the ground, Many governments are
moving services online to make them more transparent and less vulnerable to corruption, perhaps the most feared
obstacle to doing business in the emerging world. Since 2010, the cost of starting a business has been steady in
developed countries while falling sharply in emerging market countries, from 66% to just 27% of the average
annual income. Entrepreneurs can now launch businesses affordably, organizing much of what they need on a
Now China's emerging market peers are getting a push from the same digital
engines.

with the living standards of the developed world.(快速数字化的时代才刚刚开始。
D
An international team led by scientists at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has
recently developed the world's first 3D artificial eye with capabilities that even outperform those of the human
eyes, bringing vision to humanoid robots and new hope to patients with visual damage.
Scientists have spent decades trying to produce the exact copies of the structure and clarity of a biological eye,
but vision provided by existing artificial eyes with external wires are still in poor resolution (分辨率) with 2D flat
image sensors. The Electrochemical Eye (EC-Eye) developed at HKUST, however, may actually offer sharper
vision than a human eye, with extra functions such as the ability to see things in darkness.
The key feature allowing such breakthroughs is a 3D artificial retina (视网膜), made of nanowire light sensors
which are like the photoreceptor in human retinas. The scientists connected the nanowire light sensors to some
liquid-metal wires serving as nerves behind the human-made retina during the experiment, and successfully carried
out the visual signal transmission to reflect what the eye sees onto the computer screen. In the future, those
nanowire light sensors could be directly connected to the nerves of the visually damaged patients. Apart from that,
the artificial retina can receive more light signals and potentially attain a higher image resolution than human
retina.
With further adjustment, the EC-Eye can be a self-powered image sensor, so there is no need for external
power source, which will be much more user-friendly as compared with the current technology. “The current
artificial eyes are still of no match to the human eyes. A new technology is in urgent need, and it gives me a strong
motivation to start this unconventional project. In the next step, we plan to further improve the performance of our
device. Animal and clinical trials are now being planned. I think if everything is on track, perhaps in five years, the
technology will become practical,” said Prof. Fan, whose team has spent nine years to complete the current study.
32.What's the feature of the EC Eye?A.It uses 2D flat image sensors.
B.It performs better at night than in the day.
C.It is attached with external wires.
D.It provides a clearer vision than human eyes.
33.What's the function of nanowire light sensors?
A.To send computer signals.
B.To serve as nerves behind the retina.
C.To receive visual signals.
D.To connect nerves of patients to the wires.
34.What can we infer about the EC-Eye from Dr. Fan's words?
A.It is of no match to human eyes.
B.It has been improved by the team.
C.It will be in clinical trials in five years.
D.It is different from the previous devices.
35.What can be the best title for the text?
A.EC-Eye will become popular in the near future.
B. Scientists have developed first artificial eye with 3D retina.
C.3D technology helps to cure people of their eye diseases.
D.Nanowire light sensors help people see in darkness.
D 33. C 34. D 35. B

The Electrochemical Eye (EC-Eye) developed at HKUST, however, may actually
offer sharper vision than a human eye, with extra functions such as the ability to see things in darkness.”(然而,
由第三段中的“The key feature allowing such breakthroughs is a 3D artificial retina (视网膜),
made of nanowire light sensors which are like the photoreceptor in human retinas.
由最后一段中的“With further adjustment, the EC-Eye can be a self-powered image sensor, so
there is no need for external power source, which will be much more user-friendly as compared with the current
technology.
Scientists have
developed first artificial eye with 3D retina.(科学家开发出了第一个具有3D视网膜的人工眼睛。)
As an artist who shares her journey on social media, I’m often asked by curious followers how to begin an art
journey. Unfortunately, there is no magic list I can offer. I do remember, though, what it was like to be a complete
beginner. So I’ve put together some good tips for starting an art journey.
·Start small. I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide inspiration
and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future. ___36___ You’ll want to look back on your
journey to see how far you’ve come.
·Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether
you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from life as much as possible. ___37___
·Continually challenge yourself to try something new. ___38___ Artistic growth can be a bit painful.
Welcome to the club;we’ve all been there. I love taking on challenges. I once took up a challenge to create a
painting every day for a month and post the works online.
·___39___ Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social
media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my
level of artistic ability.
The journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path. ___40___ Push through, give it time and put in the effort.
You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life.
.
A Get out of your comfort zone.B. Make career plans and set goals.
C. Don’t throw away your beginner art.
D. Share your work if you feel comfortable doing so.
E. You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times.
F. Evaluate your performance and, if needed, redefine your role.
G. You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition.
C 37. G 38. A 39. D 40. E
I suggest using a sketchbook (素描本) for small studies. These small studies provide
inspiration and may be a springboard for more complex works in the future.
文“You’ll want to look back on your journey to see how far you’ve come. (你会想要回顾一下自己的艺术之
旅,看看自己已经取得多少进步)”可知,空处应是一个过渡句,从给出建议使用一个素描本进行小规模的
学习和实践,到回顾自己的艺术之旅,所以C项“Don’t throw away your beginner art. (不要扔掉你的初学时
的艺术作品)”符合文意,和后文形成顺承关系。故选C项。
37. 分析设空处,位于段尾,是对本段 总的结,根据前文“Paint often and paint from life. There’s no better
way to improve than to put in those brush miles. Whether you paint still lifes, portraits, or landscapes, paint from
life as much as possible.
绘画,所以G项“You’ll develop that painting muscle memory that only comes with repetition. (你会逐渐形成
只有通过反复练习才能获得的绘画肌肉记忆)”是对前文的总结。故选G项。
38. 分析设空处,空处位于第二句,此处应是对前一句的进一步解释,并同时引出后文,根据前文
“Continually challenge yourself to try something new. (不断挑战自己,尝试新事物)”以及后文“Artistic
growth can be a bit painful. (艺术的成长可能会有点痛苦)”可知,A项“Get out of your comfort zone.
故选A项。
馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They
make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability.
他们都让我感到受到了重视和尊重)”可知,本段主要讲述了是分享自己的作品,所以D项“Share yourwork if you feel comfortable doing so.
journey you’re on won’t follow a straight path.
give it time and put in the effort. You will harvest the rewards of an artistic life.
你将收获艺术生活的回报)”可知,E项“You’ll hit roadblocks, and you’ll feel discouraged at times.

“It's my husband.I think he's having a heart attack.Can you help me?”she blurted out(脱口而出).Her
eyes filled with tears. With lightning speed, I changed my clothes. Then,I followed Mrs.Lim to her house. The
whole house was a little musty. As this was my first visit to the Lims' residence, I had a quick glance around
the living room. There were wall panels covered with watercolor landscapes, carvings, and cross-stitch (十字
绣) pieces.Along the hallway leading to the kitchen was Mr.Lim, sitting in an armchair. He appeared to be out
of breath. With Mrs.Lim's help, I managed to carry him to the porch where their car was parked. When we
finally managed to get him inside the car, I drove to the hospital.
We rushed him to the emergency and casualty ward (临时病室).The doctor on duty informed us that
Mr.Lim had suffered a mild stroke.Mr.Lim was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).Mrs.Lim and I
looked after him all night long.It was then that Mrs.Lim asked me to contact her son and convey the news.Inever knew that Mr.and Mrs.Lim had children.I could not recall a time when they ever mentioned a.son.I

Paragraph 1:As I was driving home, I told myself that I would call my own parents.
Paragraph 2:Mr.Lim was discharged (准许离开) from the hospital after ten days.
As I was driving home, I told myself that I would call my own parents. I had not contacted them for almost a
month and my conscience bit me. I had always thought that I had so much work to do and couldn't spare enough
time to visit them. They had devoted most of their time to looking after me for a good part of their lives. I was
sobbing terribly all the way home, ashamed of my neglect. Maybe they were suffering from the same scene as my
neighbors.
Mr. Lim was discharged(准许离开) from the hospital after ten days. He made a speedy recovery. Apart from
his unclear speech, he appeared healthy and happy a month after the incident. I didn't know whether they had
contacted with their son, but what I took from the incident helped me a lot. The incident has helped me to know
what is important to me. It has also made me realize that when we give a helping hand to those who need our
assistance, the world will be a better place to live in.
