GoRice aims to empower and engage young people to learn more about issues such as hunger, sustainability and gender
equality. After more than 10 years, GoRice is growing up.
A Game with a Cause
GoRice is a quiz game that raises rice grains for each correct answer. In GoRice, players have to earn rice grains to fill a
virtual bowl. This “unlocks” the donations of the private sponsors who fund the program — raise rice and you raise money.
The funds then go to support The World Food Programme (WFP)’s work in emergencies — in countries impacted by conflict,
climate disasters and rising prices.
Categories for All Ages and Interests
GoRice has more than 60 categories covering academic subjects, general knowledge, the UN’s Sustainable Development
Goals and more. The most popular categories are English Vocabulary and the Multiplication Table. New content areas cover
Women Leaders, Foods of the World and Pop Culture. These are the contributions of volunteers who include educational
influencers, academics and GoRice fans.
Now there are even more ways to learn and give back. The new GoRice aims to provide young people with resources
and ideas on how to become advocates in their communities. Visitors can read stories on the Blog and submit their own stories
to be featured on the program.
Some of the latest stories you’ll find on GoRice include:
• How climate change is affecting our food systems
• 5 tips on how to live a more sustainable life
• How to incorporate more pulses into your diet
• The power of corn
Schools are one of GoRice’s biggest audiences, so the new program also offers printable materials for the classroom,
including an A-Z ebook that introduces WFP’s work, a toolkit for using the game and certificates of participation to reward
players for raising rice grains.
21. How does GoRice help support WFP?
A. By improving upon rice farming.
B. By unlocking sponsors’ donations.
C. By asking players to donate money.
D. By providing material aid in emergencies.
22. What can we know about GoRice’s categories?

B
My middle school taught the periodic table (元素周期表) in the eighth grade. From the beginning, I fell in love with the
element “Bismuth” (Bi). It comes in absolutely beautiful colours and grows in square shapes that can be changed during the
growing process with music.
Now, Bi is not exactly as common as Hydrogen or Oxygen so it wasn’t an element we talked about much in class.
However, whenever the opportunity arrived, I would bring it up and express how much I liked it. It kind of became a joke that
on the occasion when it was brought up, my classmates would look over at me and kind of laugh.
One day we were in class like normal and I was in a bad mood. Mrs. Mennon, the teacher of this class, had a rule that if
you finished your work early, you had to do extra work. All I wanted to do was draw or play games. I remember sitting
there and just thinking, “She is out of her mind! What’s the point in making us do extra work?”
Literally as I was thinking about this, Mrs. Mennon called my name aloud, “Henry! Come here.” I was worried I had
somehow said my thoughts out loud, but that wasn’t it at all. When I got to the desk she explained that she had been at a
resource fair for science teachers to buy some new supplies for the class. She then held out her hand and gave me a tiny piece
of Bi, and said she had seen it and immediately thought of me. My face lit up and couldn’t thank her enough. She said that
was all and I went back to my seat.
In my head, I had been complaining about Mrs. Mennon and her rule all without knowing she had done something
extremely kind for me. I felt horrible. I have teachers in my family, and I’ve seen the trouble they have to deal with, but I
hadn’t been thinking about how much they had done for us.
It’s been a long time since then. The Bi was a gift I will always cherish, but Mrs. Mennon also gave me a lesson. I needed
to hear.
24. What made the author’s classmates laugh when Bi was mentioned?
A. Bi’s unusual name.
B. Bi’s unique properties.
C. The author’s knowledge of Bi.
D. The author’s predictable reaction to Bi.
25. Why did Mrs. Mennon give the author a piece of Bi?
A. To support his keen interest.
B. To comfort him for his low spirits.
C. To reward his extra work in the class.
D. To arouse his curiosity about her class.
26. How did the author feel after receiving the gift?
A. Moved but confused.
B. Excited but anxious.
C. Content but stressed.
D. Grateful but guilty.
27. What can you learn from the story?
A. Gifts blind your eyes.
B. Goodness favors growth.
C. A little interest goes a long way.
D. Youthful errors define your future.
D 25. A 26. D 27. B
Now, Bi is not exactly as common as Hydrogen or Oxygen so it wasn’t an element we talked
about much in class. However, whenever the opportunity arrived, I would bring it up and express how much I liked it. It kind
of became a joke that on the occasion when it was brought up, my classmates would look over at me and kind of laugh.( 铋
However, whenever the opportunity arrived, I would bring it up and express how much I
liked it.(然而,只要有机会,我就会把它提出来,表达我是多么喜欢它。)”以及第四段中“When I got to the desk she
explained that she had been at a resource fair for science teachers to buy some new supplies for the class. She then held out
her hand and gave me a tiny piece of Bi, and said she had seen it and immediately thought of me.(当我走到讲台前时,她
故选A。
根据第四段中“My face lit up and couldn’t thank her enough. (我喜笑颜开,对她感激不尽。)”以及第五
段中“In my head, I had been complaining about Mrs. Mennon and her rule all without knowing she had done something
extremely kind for me. I felt horrible. I have teachers in my family, and I’ve seen the trouble they have to deal with, but I
hadn’t been thinking about how much they had done for us.(在我的脑海里,我一直在抱怨Mennon 老师和她的规定,
It’s been a long time since then. The Bi was a gift I will always cherish, but
Mrs. Mennon also gave me a lesson. I needed to hear.(从那以后已经过去很久了。
C
Escaping predators (食肉动物), digestion and other animal activities—including those of humans—require oxygen.
But that essential ingredient is no longer so easy for marine life to obtain, several new studies reveal.
In the past decade ocean oxygen levels have taken a dive—an alarming trend that is linked to climate change, says
Andreas Oschlies, an oceanographer at the Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research in Germany, whose team tracks ocean
oxygen levels worldwide. “We were surprised by the intensity of the changes we saw, how rapidly oxygen is going down in
the ocean and how large the effects on marine ecosystems are,” he says. It is no surprise to scientists that warming oceans are
losing oxygen, but the scale of the drop calls for urgent attention. Oxygen levels in some tropical (热带的) regions have
dropped by an astonishing 40 percent in the last 50 years, some recent studies reveal. Levels have dropped less significantly
elsewhere, with an average loss of 2 percent globally.
A warming ocean loses oxygen for two reasons: First, the warmer a liquid becomes, the less gas it can hold. That is why
carbonated drinks go flat faster when left in the sun. Second, as polar sea ice melts, it forms a layer of water above colder,
more salty sea waters. This process creates a sort of lid that can keep currents from mixing surface water down to deeper
depths. And because all oxygen enters the surface, less mixing means less of it at depth.
Ocean animals large and small, however, respond to even slight changes in oxygen by seeking refuge in higher oxygen
zones or by adjusting behavior, Oschlies and others in his field have found. These adjustments can expose animals to new
predators or force them into food-scarce regions. Climate change already poses serious problems for marine life, such as ocean
acidification, but deoxygenation is the most pressing issue facing sea animals today, Oschlies says. After all, he says, “they
all have to breathe.”
Aside from food web problems, animals face various other physiological challenges as their bodies adjust to lower
oxygen levels. Chinese shrimp (虾) move their tails less vigorously to preserve energy in lower oxygen environments. Some
creatures, such as jellyfishes, are more tolerant of low oxygen than others are. But all animals will feel the impact of
deoxygenation because they all have evolved their oxygen capacity for a reason, says Oschlies. “Any drop in oxygen is going
to damage survivability and performance,” he says.
28. According to the first two paragraphs, what worries scientists the most?
A. The worsening deoxygenation in the warming ocean.
B. The survival of predators and various marine animals.
C. The alarmingly changeable oxygen levels in the ocean.
D. The lack of attention to the warming of tropical oceans.
29. Which of the following is a reason for the oxygen loss in the ocean?
A. Polar ice melting consumes much oxygen in the ocean.
B. Global warming reduces the amount of oxygen in the air.
C. The surface polar ice water prevents oxygen going down.
D. Salty water holds less gas in the increasingly warmer ocean.
30. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Ocean deoxygenation changes some animals’ natural territories.
B. Ocean acidification is more serious a problem than deoxygenation.
C. Not all ocean animals are bothered by the decreasing oxygen levels.
D. Some animals reduce their movements in order to absorb more oxygen.
31. Which of the following is the best title of the passage?
A. The Oxygen Levels of Marine Life
B. Ocean Warming Affects Food Web
C. The Survivability of Ocean Animals
D. The Ocean Is Running Out of Breath
A 29. C 30. A 31. D

It is no surprise to scientists that warming oceans are losing oxygen, but the scale of the drop calls
for urgent attention. Oxygen levels in some tropical (热带的) regions have dropped by an astonishing 40 percent in the last
50 years, some recent studies reveal. Levels have dropped less significantly elsewhere, with an average loss of 2 percent
globally.”
由第三段“ as polar sea ice melts, it forms a layer of water above colder, more salty sea waters. This process
creates a sort of lid that can keep currents from mixing surface water down to deeper depths. And because all oxygen enters
the surface, less mixing means less of it at depth.”
Ocean animals large and small, however, respond to even slight changes in oxygen by seeking
refuge in higher oxygen zones or by adjusting behavior, Oschlies and others in his field have found. These adjustments can
expose animals to new predators or force them into food-scarce regions.

After United Airlines baggage handlers mashed Dave Carroll’s $3,500 guitar during a 2008 flight, he spent months
fruitlessly seeking compensation. Then he created a music video “United Breaks Guitars” and posted it on YouTube. Within
three days the video had been viewed by 1.5 million people. Consequently, United’s stock plunged (暴跌) .
For Dennis Herhausen, an associate professor of marketing at KEDGE Business School in France, this incident brought
new focus to his and his colleagues’ research on digital assets, “When someone puts up a complaint and other customers enter
the conversation, a firestorm can erupt. We wanted to understand this new phenomenon.” Herhausen says.
In his recent study, the researchers looked at 472,995 negative comments posted in the public Facebook communities of
89 U. S. companies from October 2011 through January 2016. They used computerized textual analysis to measure the
intensity of emotions in each post. To assess the relationship between a post’s author and the rest of the online community,
they counted their communications; the higher the number, the stronger the tie and the greater the likelihood that the person
served as an influencer. They also measured the linguistic similarity between each post and the community’s overall content.
Next the researchers analyzed companies’ responses, looking at what the companies had offered an unhappy customer;
measuring the amount of empathy and explanation in each response. To measure virality (扩散性), they added up the likes,
comments, and shares inspired by each post and compared the total with the average for the community in which it appeared. As
a result of this work, the researchers developed several recommendations to deal with online complaints.
Companies should respond to negative posts, and fast. “The worst thing you can do is ignore the customer,” Herhausen
says. The responses fell into five main categories: companies suggested moving the conversation to a private channel,
apologized, provided an explanation, expressed empathy, and offered compensation.
Which strategy worked best? Apologies and requests to switch to a private channel could generally work best at early
stage. Offering to compensate an unhappy customer had the opposite effect — a result that took the researchers by surprise.
It might cause a complaining customer’s frustration, the researchers say, but if companies suggest compensation immediately,
other members of the community may see it as an opportunity to post a complaint in the hope of receiving something from
the company themselves.
In general, early expressions of empathy were more effective than explanations. But there was an important exception:
posts reflecting an unusual degree of high-arousal emotions. If customers are extremely upset, the researchers say, an
empathetic reply may feed their agitation, whereas a rational, fact-based explanation often helps cool them down.
Not all complaints can be contained. The study showed that once a complaint had galvanized (激起) others in the online
community, the company’s attempts to disengage by apologizing or suggesting a channel change were not only ineffective
but tended to fuel the flames. On the contrary, compensation very late in the game may tamp down (压制) virality, but they
need to be paired with explanations. Otherwise, they risk being seen as tacit admissions of guilt.
Finally, as a firestorm evolves, the organization should take care to make each response distinct and to vary the use of
empathy and explanation from one message to the next. “In some cases, the people in social media departments follow a script
— the replies are always the same,” Grewal says. “That’s a clear sign that the company is not really attending to the
situation.”
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to online complaints, and companies can obtain considerable benefits from
appropriate handling. An effective response strategy can reduce a negative post’s virality by as much as 11%, the researchers
calculate — which could translate to hundreds or thousands fewer likes and shares of complaints and limit any enduring
damage to the company’s reputation and fortunes.
32. What are Paragraph 3 and 4 mainly about?
A. The process of the research.
B. The motive for the research.
C. The findings of the research.
D. The significance of the research.
33. Once a complaint has gone viral, it is advised to _________.
A. apologize and suggest a channel change
B. offer compensation with an explanation
C. respond by following some fixed script
D. give understanding and express empathy
34. What does the underlined word “agitation” in Paragraph 7 probably mean?
A. Concern.
B. Depression.
C. Doubt.
D. Anger.
A 33. B 34. D

But there was an important exception: posts reflecting an unusual degree of high-arousal
emotions. If customers are extremely upset, the researchers say, an empathetic reply may feed their agitation, whereas a

There’s just something about Labubu. You hear the sound of opening a blind box, see that cheeky smile and suddenly
you’re attracted. But once the excitement fades, you can’t help but wonder, why do we keep chasing more, even when we
already have enough?
Evolutionary psychology gives us a fascinating answer. A lot of what we do comes from what once helped our ancestors
survive. ___35___ That could mean the difference between thriving (繁荣) and going without. Over generations, we’ve been
wired to find joy in having more than we require.
Labubu represents a modern form of this instinct (本能). The blind-box model mirrors ancestral uncertainty: investing
effort toward an uncertain payoff with the possibility of a rare, high-status “secret” find. The uncertainty of the reward activates
dopamine pathways in the brain. ___36___ This explains why collectors sometimes keep buying long after they’ve achieved
their goal.
___37___ When collecting remains a source of joy and social connection, it can be adaptive. Many Labubu collectors
share mini furniture, and fan-made content. ___38___ But when over-marketing and rocketing resale prices step in, the whole
environment changes. Suddenly, it’s less about the joy of owning something you love and more about showing off or reselling it
for a profit.
In questioning whether hoarding is simply collecting gone mad, it becomes clear that human psychology hasn’t
fundamentally changed. Social media, over-marketing, and resale culture supercharge ancient drives. The challenge is to keep
those drives in balance. ___39___ Ask yourself: Does it truly spark joy or creativity? In the end, Labubu is more than a toy.
It’s a little mirror, reflecting both our ancient instincts and modern anxieties, and showing just how easily a fun hobby can tip
into full-blown craze.
A. Collect what brings genuine pleasure.
B. But how does collecting slip into disorder?
C. Buyers don’t know which figure they will get.
D. Back then, collecting was about saving tools or food for later use.
E. Collecting becomes a problem when possessions damage our daily life.
F. It makes us “want” the experience even when we already “have” enough.
G. Such are forms of self-expression that enrich rather than mess up our life.
D 36. F 37. B 38. G 39. A
根据前文“A lot of what we do comes from what once helped our ancestors survive. (我们所做的很多事情,都是源于那
些曾经帮助我们的祖先生存下来的策略。)”提到进化心理学认为人类的很多行为源于祖先的生存需求,同时结合主
题“收集”这一行为,设空句应讲述祖先的收集行为。选项D“Back then, collecting was about saving tools or food for
later use.
前文“The uncertainty of the reward activates dopamine pathways in the brain. (奖励的不确定性会激活大脑中的多巴胺
通路。)”提到“多巴胺通路被激活”,那么设空句紧跟其后,继续讲述激活多巴胺通路导致的后果。选项F“It
makes us ‘want’ the experience even when we already ‘have’ enough.
This explains why collectors
sometimes keep buying long after they’ve achieved their goal.
When collecting remains a source of joy and social
connection, it can be adaptive.
到“收集带来快乐时具有适应性”,而后半段“But”句内容“But when over-marketing and rocketing resale prices step
in, the whole environment changes. Suddenly, it’s less about the joy of owning something you love and more about showing
off or reselling it for a profit.
B“But how does collecting slip into disorder?
根据前文“Many Labubu collectors share mini furniture, and fan-made content. (许多Labubu 收藏者会共享小型家具以
及自制内容。)”提到了Labubu 收藏者的行为,设空处应是对这些行为进行积极解读。选项G“Such are forms of self-
expression that enrich rather than mess up our life.
根据后文“Ask yourself: Does it truly spark joy or creativity? (问问自己:这样做真的能带来快乐或激发创造力吗?)”
提出了一个关于“Labubu 收集”的本质的疑问,设空句作为前一句,应是对收集的本质进行概括总结。选项
A“Collect what brings genuine pleasure. (收集能带来真正快乐的东西。)”是收集的本质概括,置于该空后,后文在逻
辑表达上与其紧密衔接。故选A 项。
Growing up, I struggled with words. At seven, I was diagnosed with dyslexia I took twice as long to read a
paragraph, and often mixed up letters like “b” and “d”. Classmates laughed when I stumbled over sentences in class, and I
hated raising my hand—afraid of getting answers wrong or being teased again. I felt like I was stuck in a fog, watching others
keep up easily while I lagged behind.
In fifth grade, Ms. Lee, my art teacher, noticed I spent every recess drawing in my notebook. She gave me a set of
watercolors and said, “Your voice doesn’t have to be made of words.” That year, I started painting—scenes of my neighborhood
at sunset, my pet cat napping, even how dyslexia felt (swirling letters like colorful clouds). By eighth grade, Ms. Lee helped
me hold a small art show at school. To my surprise, classmates stopped to look; some even said my paintings “made them
understand how I felt.”
Later, I started an art club for kids with learning differences. We painted together, and no one worried about reading
speed or spelling—we just shared our stories through colors. Last month, our club had a show at the local library. A parent
told me her son, who also has dyslexia, finally felt “like he wasn’t alone.”
I never thought my paintings could do that. Once, I thought I was “broken” because I couldn’t read like everyone else.
Now I know my differences are what make my art—and my voice—special. There’s more than one way to be heard. Keep
creating, keep being you. Someone will see how amazing you are.
40. What made the author feel lagged behind when he was a kid?
41. How did the author’s early painting experience benefit him?
42. Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
For the author, the most meaningful part of his art experience is holding his first art show at school.
43. From this story, what can you learn about growth? (In about 40 words)
40. He had dyslexia, took long to read, mixed up letters, and was laughed at/teased by classmates when stumbling over
sentences.
41. He found a non-verbal “voice” to express himself, felt less stuck, and later connected with kids who had similar learning
differences.
42. The false part is “holding his first art show at school”. The most meaningful part is that his art and club helped kids with
dyslexia feel they weren’t alone, not just the school art show.
43. Growth means turning your differences into strengths (like the author’s painting), finding your unique way to express
yourself, and using it to help others feel belonged.

water.
Plants purify campus air and add greenery, fitting the sustainable theme well. The challenge helps form long-term eco-habits,
and sharing plant care tips makes the activity interactive. It’s practical and fun, easy to get classmates involved.
Hope this idea works for you — good luck with your proposal!
