Since John Muir, the great naturalist, started the national park movement, our concept of parks has remained
largely unchanged. Daniel Raven-Ellison, a National Geographic explorer, would like to 76 it.
By redefining what a park can be, Raven-Ellison hopes to open our eyes to the 77 that’s already
around us, and expand our ambition for 78 more. One of his ambitious projects is to 79 the
government to declare the entire city of London a national park.
“In spite of its 80 streets, London has many 81 we associate with parks,” he points out. “If you
82 not only the large urban parks but also the backyards and the 83 bits of land, the city is
already 47 percent green space. My 84 is to make London 51 percent green, up from the current 47
percent.”
Raven-Ellison says that it’s 85 by lots of small and everyday actions: Leave a hole in the fence to
let animals get through or let a backyard garden go a bit 86 .
He adds that for the dream to become reality, though, city residents need to be inspired to love nature, not just
to leave it. And those 87 reserves in the city need to be expanded, so the residents can experience nature
88 through their eyes, ears, nose, and skin.
“If we want future generations to 89 the wild,” Raven-Ellison says, “then they have to 90
it between their toes on their doorstep first.”

第三部分(语法填空 共15 分)
本题共10 小题,每小1.5 分,共15 分。阅读下面短文, 在空白处填入1 个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确
形式。
Some 4, 000 years ago, the Liangzhu culture, known for its sophisticated city of canals 91 (call)
“China’s Venice of the Stone Age,” suddenly disappeared. Historians debated whether war, disease, or starvation
caused its collapse, but recent research points to climate change 92 a key factor.
Located near the East China Sea, Liangzhu 93 (be) home to an advanced Stone Age civilization for
about 1,000 years, supporting an active agricultural system through its canals. Liangzhu City was listed as 94
UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019.
Researchers from the University of Innsbruck had long sought to explain 95 Liangzhu was
abandoned, and the discovery of a thin layer of clay on the ruins suggested a possible connection between the ends
of the advanced civilization 96 floods of the Yangtze River or floods from the East China Sea. However,
no clear conclusions on the cause were possible from the mud layer 97 (it).
A breakthrough came when scientists studied stalagmites (石笋) from two nearby underwater caves. As Dr.
Peter Dockrill reported for Science Alert, their team discovered chemical signatures from about 4,300 years ago that
showed 98 (extreme) high rainfall, probably caused by the 99 (warm) of ocean waters in the
Pacific - an event known as the El Nino (厄尔尼诺).
The study notes that wet conditions lasted for several hundred years following the collapse of Liangzhu,
eventually paving the way for the rise of the Xia dynasty in 2070 B.C.E. Its celebrated 100 (found), Yu
the Great, introduced more extensive flood-control methods and is known as the “Tamer of the Flood.”
