①人与自我(占比最高):个人成长、克服挫折、自我反思、坚持、心态调整;
②人与社会:善意助人、人际交往、社区生活、文化交流、社会责任;
于)、cover(走完;支付)、fail(辜负)、offer(主动做出),成为常规考
选项词义高度接近,如approve/admit/accept ;annoyed/disappointed/

长;

Dad is the only breadwinner of our family. Mom, a masterful 1 ,

Our old family 2 had grown too worn out, which made a replacement 3 . Dad sighed
that we could not 4 a new vehicle. But Mom believed we might work things out.
One day, they found a model they both loved. As usual, Dad 5 it as pricy. Mom persuaded
him to sort out our 6 carefully. It turned out that we were still $1,000 short.
In her bedroom, Mom took down a shoebox hidden high on the closet shelf. She told us of her
grandmother’s advice for a(n) 7 marriage,“Instead of quarreling (吵架) when angry with your
husband, simply make a small doll to 8 your heart. ”
She opened the box to 9 two handmade dolls. My sister asked, “Mom, have you been angry
only twice in fifteen years of 10 ?”
Mom pulled out a thick envelope full of cash, just enough to 11 the gap, explaining
cheerfully, “Over the years, I’ve made so many dolls that I lacked sufficient storage space, so I 12
them!”
We all erupted in laughter, Dad’s laugh the most 13 . He recognized he used to be difficult to
14 sometimes. We bought the car the next day. On the drive home, Mom 15 warned Dad to
slow down, or she would start another doll. We laughed merrily, which has become our most treasured
family memory.

In the 1980s, I first encountered tai chi in Dundonald Park.
I watched people move in loose formation at an unhurried pace. The 1 of their movements
was like a water lily (睡莲) opening in slow motion.
I found tai chi

 2

, but I couldn’t see its point. I defined fitness as

 3

  and strength.
Moving slowly did not tone muscles, so I chose to

 4

myself from the practice. Still, the
5

stayed with me, a seed planted.
After retirement, with a doctor’s

 6

, I returned to that park, no longer a watcher but inside
the group, awkwardly moving toward the growth once seeded long ago. My early

 7

  were
discouraging. I joined one class, then left; joined another, and

 8

 , failing to complete the
routines. I assumed that mastering tai chi meant memorizing all the

 9

 . But I soon learned
otherwise: What needed mastering were my own habits — impatience, resistance to correction.
Everything changed in my first expert-led class. Surrounded by advanced

 10

 , I felt like a
beginner when the instructor 11

singled me out for instruction. Embarrassed, I listened intently,
watched closely and

 12

my body to move by copying him. Ultimately, this focus helped
13

  my embarrassment.
In that instant, my emotion

 14

, from embarrassment to empowerment. I learned not just a
move, but a patient and open way of being. I became that lily unfolding, awakened not by force, but by
this

That’s really cool.” A mid-thirties woman sat across from me, opening
her laptop, at the tall long table inside the airport hall.
“Would you like to have it? It flaps its wings and folds flat for travel.” The noise of people passing by
and announcements over the radio seemed to fade into the background as our little interaction 1 .
I held out the delicate, flapping-winged crane towards her. It was a little piece of art I had 2
with care. The complicated folds of the paper, each one a 3 to the time I had spent creating it,
made it a unique gift.
She said, “I would love to have it.” Her face 4 with genuine delight as she took it from my
hands. I gladly passed it to her, feeling a sense of 5 in my heart. It was these small 6

that had the power to brighten someone’s day and make the airport, a place usually filled with stress and
hurry, a bit more 7 .
She then said, “How fun that you can do that to bring others uplift!”
I replied with a smile, “I live for it!” I believed that spreading happiness through such a simple means
was a 8 pursuit.
A few minutes earlier, as I had paid for my drink at the coffee stand, I had handed the waiter an
origami (折纸) heart. 9 her expression had transformed into the widest smile. She said, “Thank
you so much!” Her eyes were filled with warmth and gratefulness as they

 1 0

  mine.
I truly loved those small moments of connection. In the chaos of our daily lives, when we often
operated on autopilot, those

 1 1

  exchanges woke us up and

 1 2

us on a deeper level. The
smallest act, like giving an origami piece, in the briefest moment, could create the hugest

 1 3

in someone’s day. It was, without doubt, my greatest

 1 4

. Those acts were like a ray of light,

1 5

  the beauty of human connection.

As a shy girl, I had always thought I was weak at sports — something
that caused self-doubt and I avoided. But growing up and wanting to step out of comfort zone, I signed
up for a spinning (动感单车) class, which completely changed my

 1

 .
I vividly remember those first few classes. Breathless with my face

 2

 , my legs trembled
3

as I struggled to keep pace. By contrast, others pedaled with seemingly 4 grace. Looking
at my messy reflection in the mirror, I was completely out of 5 , feeling like a round peg (木
栓) in a square hole. The urge to

 6

  struck repeatedly.
Fortunately, the instructor

 7

me and corrected my posture, cheering me on all the way.
Gradually, I got the hang of it. I

 8

on my breath and the rhythm of movement, letting each
pedal

 9

my inner insecurity in sports. Though still far from skilled, I persisted and the weekly
class gradually became a place for stress

 10

 .
One day after class, a stylish girl

 11

me and said, “You know, I actually struggle to keep
up every time but I was inspired seeing you push through.” Her words took me by surprise. While I had
been

 12

my awkward reality in the gym with her polished look, she’d been drawing

 13

from my persistence.
What began as a step out of comfort zone has not just
  14

my view on sports but become
my source of confidence. Maybe everyone is fighting their own unseen battle, and true victory lies in
being 15
       to start and keep going.

When Liam sank into deep loneliness at the age of fourteen, he became a
completely different boy. He 1 himself into the corner of the classroom every day, his eyes fixed

Mom was an elementary school teacher, Dad was a basketball coach, and
my two sisters and I had them running in all directions with our extracurricular activities. But during
holiday breaks, our family was very 1 about spending time together in our favorite room of the
house — the kitchen.
Mom always made baking fun for us, 2 our energy into something creative without a care
for the 3 . She never scolded us for spilling flour on the counter or getting egg yolk on our
clothes; instead, she laughed along and taught us to clean up together. I still have vivid memories of a
cloud of cocoa powder 4 onto my eyelashes (睫毛) when I couldn’t help peeking (偷瞄) into
the mixing bowl to get a taste of the sweet batter (面糊) before it was 5 . That kitchen was more
than just a place for cooking; it was a 6 of love and laughter, where we shared stories, joked
around, and made memories that would last a lifetime.
Becoming a parent, I wanted to 7 those kitchen memories with my kids too. Once they
turned six and four, I 8 they were ready to get their little hands sticky from more than just
eating. I came up with Chocolate Bark, a candy recipe. There were times I had to 9 the patience
Mom had modeled for me. For those times when they just couldn’t 10 licking the spoon, I made a

boys were so 12 to give out their boxes of Chocolate Bark, 13 when someone would ask,
“You made this yourself? It looks like it came from a 14 store!” But for me, there’s nothing that
comes out of our kitchen 15 than the time our family spends in it together.

Last fall, I studied abroad at Denmark Technical University. My main
criterion for choosing a school was that I wanted to live in a country where I could 1 English
alone.
I made friends through a board-game club — three Danish students, one German, and two Icelandic
students. Most of the time, I focused more on the game than on social

 2

 . But one evening, while
waiting for my turn, I 3

realized that most of the group was speaking English. They were clearly
trying to make sure language would not become a 4

  between us.
Later, I joined another student club with a similarly

 5
group. Once, when I entered the room,
several Danish students were chatting in Danish. But the minute I sat down, they immediately 6
to English. I told my friend Augusta that I felt 7

. It must be exhausting to use English all day just
because one foreign student was 8

 . “Don’t worry. It’s really not a bother,” she 9

Their 1

rooms, by unfailingly shifting to English, they had

a bridge for me — yet I had never once
ventured (冒险) to the other side. I had been so

 13

to the gift — and to the debt.
The next day, I asked Augusta to teach me a few Danish phrases. I may never be
  14

 , but real
connection lies not in ease — but in shared 15

, which I had long received without giving back.
