M: Hotels are no longer the first and only choice for travelers in China to sleep at night. A new type of
accommodation choice called bed-and-breakfast (B&B) or minsu in Chinese is welcoming more visitors in
China. During the month’s Golden Week, B&B bookings in China grew by 400 percent from 2022, according
to B&B booking website Tujia.com. Started in Europe, B&B is often a family-run home. Travelers pay to
stay overnight and have breakfast. In China, B&Bs are often located in rural areas offering a mix of fun,
experiences and new friendships. It’s common for hosts and guests to share meals and enjoy each other’s company, sometimes even including the hosts’ pets. However, as more B&Bs come out, the service sometimes may not
be good enough. Some guests complained that the soundproofing is bad and the house is dirty. To solve the
problem, the first national standards for B&Bs were carried out on Oct 1st. For example, every B&B
should provide no more than 14 guestrooms and things like towels and sheets must be changed after each guest’s
check-out. The standards will help the B&B develop in a healthy way.

High employment, falling inflation (通货膨胀), and economic growth. On the surface, the US economy
currently seems to be doing great. But as it turns out, things are not so rosy for the average working American.
According to a March 6 survey conducted by the Savings website, 47 percent of parents provide some degree
of financial support to their adult children to help deal with the cost of living struggles.
Gen Zers (defined in the survey as aged 18 - 27) were found to be the most likely generation to get financial
help from their parents, receiving on average 1,515 dollars (about 10.950 an) per month. Still, many older parentswere found to be supporting their Millennial (aged 28 - 43) or Generation X (aged 44 - 59) adult children,
accounting for 21 percent of parents providing support. The most common expenses cited were groceries, tuition
and health insurance, among others, reported The Guardian.
But why are so many US adults, both young and old, struggling to “leave the nest”? One major reason is
soaring food prices. According to the US Department of Agriculture, food prices are expected to increase by nearly
2.5 percent across the board in 2024.
Meanwhile, stable housing remains an elusive dream for many. The average rate for a 30- year, fixed rate
mortgage (抵押贷款) was almost 8 percent in October 2023, said the Mortgage a Bankers Association. An
extremely expensive mortgage means that many Americans are priced out of affording their own home.
The final piece of the puzzle is falling salaries. Previous generations were able to count on graduating from
college as the key to landing a job that paid well. But now, young US graduates have found that they earn less than
their parents. According to a CNBC analysis, college graduate salaries have decreased more than 10 percent in four
decades after adjusting for inflation. In other words, steadily declining salaries make it even harder for young
Americans to cope with steadily rising costs.
AS Gen Zers in the US struggle under financial pressures, so do the older generations supporting them, as
their generosity puts their prospects for retirement at risk. The Savings website discovered that working parents
were found to contribute “2.4 times more to support adult children than they contribute to their retirement accounts
each month”.
Essentially, while the US economy remains afloat, we might witness multiple generations of Americans
sinking in their own lifeboats in the years ahead.
24.What did the March 6 survey find out about adult children in the US?
A.Nearly half of them are financially dependent.
B.Over half of Gen Zers are financially struggling.
C.Generation X often offer their parents financial aid.
D.A majority of them rely on their parents for education.
25.What does the underlined word “elusive” in paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A.Easy to realize. B.Difficult to achieve.
C.Often misunderstood. D.Commonly sought after.
26.What can be inferred from the article about people now in the US?
A.Government policies favor older generations.B.College education guarantees a well-paid job.
C.Salaries for graduates remain stable in four decades.
D.Financial pressures affect both the young and the old.
27.What is the author’s attitude toward the future prospects of Americans?
A.Reserved. B.Optimistic. C.Negative. D.Wait-and-see.
【答案】24.A 25.B 26.D 27.C

of parents provide some degree of financial support to their adult children to help deal with the cost of living
struggles.
故选A项。
根据后文“The average rate for a 30-year, fixed rate mortgage (抵押贷款) was almost 8
percent in October 2023, said the Mortgage a Bankers Association. An extremely expensive mortgage means that
many Americans are priced out of affording their own home.
AS Gen Zers in the US struggle under financial pressures, so do the older
generations supporting them, as their generosity puts their prospects for retirement at risk. The Savings website
discovered that working parents were found to contribute “2.4 times more to support adult children than they
contribute to their retirement accounts each month”.
Essentially, while the US economy remains afloat, we might witness
multiple generations of Americans sinking in their own lifeboats in the years ahead.
A new study published on May 20, 2024, found that when teenagers played a game named Arknights (明日

expert from Ning Jin Yi Zhong, and it made a significant impact on the common perspective of games. Han invited
500 students from Ning Jin Yi Zhong to participate in the study. He divided these students into ten groups and
asked them to play different kinds of games. Eventually, he used a device capable of testing brain motivation to
assess the students, discovering that those who played Arknights exhibited the highest motivation and performed
the best in class.
Professor Wang, who collaborated with Han, stated, “It’s surprising to discover the positive effects of this

together quickly.”
With the publication of this study, an increasing number of students began to try playing Arknights. Ying Jiao
Company, the developer behind the game, was astonished by the growing number of players. An engineer
witnessing this phenomenon expressed, “It’s gratifying to see so many people eager to play our game. I hope every
player enjoys their time, and we will continue to enhance the quality and provide more welfare to every player.”

Across the US, small farmers have been struggling for years to cover their costs of production. Even for
organic farmers, who can sell the produce at higher prices, making a profit is tough. But throughout the Midwest, a
new farm-to-table strategy is helping some farmers.
At Stoney Acres in Athens, Wisconsin, the farmyard is transformed every Friday night between May and
October-as hundreds of people come to order organic pizzas.
On one summer evening, Brenda and Josh Murray order one of the simple pizzas; pepperoni. All the
ingredients (食材), except the cheese, are grown on the farm. The cheese is made at a neighboring family farm.
Even the sausages are from pigs raised at Stoney Acres.
Kat Becker and Tony Schultz, the owners of Stoney Acres have been selling their produce through a
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. They also produce honey and supply vegetables to a local
school. But pizza is opening a new frontier for their farm.
“Our CSA program, which has been our backbone and used to be about 85% of our income, is now a little bit
more than 50% of our income,” Becker says. “In these growing direct markets, we can have more control over the
pricing.”
While cutting out the middle man may be an advantage, there’s clearly more to it. Sarah Lakewood has been
coming to pizza night at Stoney Acres since it started.
“I had never experienced anything like it before,” she says. “It got to the point where we were coming every
week and, then, when we were here that last night the first summer. I felt like we were going to lose some friends
for six months.”
It’s estimated that there are now a few dozen farms in Wisconsin, Mipnesora and lowa offering pizza nights.
Lots of family farmers have given up the farm since pizza night offers a way to increase their odds of survival
while offering a new social space for their customers.
32.Which of the following can best describe the US small farmers?
A.Farming is not very profitable.B.Organic produce s very profitable.
C.The costs of production are decreasing.
D.There are many easier ways to make money.
33.According to the text, the farm-to-table strategy .
A.will help popularize organic farming

Culture is one of the most important concepts within sociology because sociologists recognize that it plays a
crucial role in our social lives. 36
Sociologists define the non-material aspects of culture as the values and beliefs, language, communication
and practices that are shared in common by a group of people. Expanding on these categories, culture is made up of
our knowledge, common sense, assumptions and expectations. 37 It informs how we walk, sit, carry our
bodies and interact with others: how we behave depending on the place, time and “audience”, and how we express
identities of race, class and gender among others.
38 This aspect of culture includes a wide variety of things. from building, technological gadgets and
clothing, to film, music, literature and art, among others. Aspects of material culture are more commonly referred to
as cultural products.
Sociologists see the two sides of culture-the material and non-material-as closely connected. Material culture
emerges from and is shaped by the non-material aspects of culture. 39 But it is not a one-way relationship
between material and non-material culture. Material culture can also influence the non-material aspects of culture.
40 This is why cultural products tend to follow patterns. What has come before in terms of music. film,
television and art, for example, influences the values, beliefs and expectations of those who interact with them,
which then. in turn, influence the creation of additional cultural products.
A.It is composed of both non-material and material things.
B.Without culture, we would not have relationships or society.
C.Culture is also what we do and how we behave and perform.
D.Material culture is composed of the things that humans make and use.E.Culture is different from social structure and economic aspects of society.
F.In other words, what we value, believe and know influences the things that we make.
G.For example, a great documentary film might change people’s attitudes and beliefs.
【答案】36.A 37.C 38.D 39.F 40.G
Culture is one of the most important concepts within sociology because sociologists recognize
that it plays a crucial role in our social lives.
Sociologists define the non-material aspects of culture as the values and beliefs, language,
communication and practices that are shared in common by a group of people. Expanding on these categories,
culture is made up of our knowledge, common sense, assumptions and expectations.
A选项“It is composed of both non-material and material things. (它由非物质的和物质的东
西组成。)”该项可作为第一段的段尾句,同时引起后文关于文化两个方面的内容,起到承上启下的作用。
故选A。
It informs how we walk, sit, carry our bodies and interact with others: how we behave depending
on the place, time and “audience”, and how we express identities of race, class and gender. among others.

C选项“Culture is also what we do and how we behave and perform. (文化也是我们
所做的事情以及我们的行为和表现方式。)”提到的“行为和表现”对应后文中出现的“走路、坐着、互
动”等,能引起下文,符合题意。故选C。
38.根据下文“This aspect of culture includes a wide variety of things. from building, technological gadgets and
clothing, to film, music, literature and art, among others.
物质方面,D选项“Material culture is composed of the things that humans make and use. (物质文化是由人类制
造和使用的东西组成的。)”提到的“由人类制造和使用的东西”指的是后文中提到的“建筑、科技产品、
服装”等,该项能引起后文,符合题意。故选D。
39.根据上文“Material culture emerges from and is shaped by the non-material aspects of culture. (物质文化产
生于文化的非物质方面,并由其塑造。)”可知,文化的物质和非物质方面是相互影响的,尤其是非物质方面会影响物质方面,本空应继续讨论这一话题,F选项“In other words, what we value, believe and know
influences the things that we make.
40.根据上文“Material culture can also influence the non-material aspects of culture. (物质文化也能够影响非
物质文化。)”可知,本空继续谈论物质文化对非物质文化的影响,G选项“For example, a great documentary
film might change people’s attitudes and beliefs.

Tionae Thomas couldn’t be prouder of her 14-year-old daughter. Plenty of people overlooked a boy sitting
alone under a tree in a shopping center parking lot. But not Tionae’s daughter. The 14-year-old girl stepped in to
help the stranded(滞留) boy. And the Internet is applauding this girl for her kindness!
Tionae and her daughter were on the way home. But as they passed a shopping center, Tionae’s daughter
begged her to pull over. She’d noticed a boy who looked like he was most likely in elementary school. He sat all
alone under a tree in a small island within the parking lot.
“It’s too hot, mama,” the girl told her mom.
So, Tionae pulled over and her daughter got out, asking the stranded boy where his parents were. But the boy
didn’t know.
The kind girl let the stranded boy use her cell phone to give his dad a call. Then she suggested he move from
his spot under the tree to the front of a nearby Rite Aid. She told him it would be safer. At the same time, the girl
left him her phone number and told him that he could call her if necessary.
Getting back into the car with her mom, the girl asked to wait to make sure the stranded boy got picked up.
She hated the idea of leaving him alone. And because of the warmer temperatures, she wanted to get him some
water.
Plenty of others must have noticed the boy. Maybe they left him alone because they didn’t want to disturb or scare
him. Maybe they just thought someone else would do something. But Tionae’s daughter was the only one to step in
and help.
Para 1: Two days later, the girl received the boy’s call.____________________________________________________________________________________________

Two days later, the girl received the boy’s call. He thanked her sincerely for her kindness and explained he
had been waiting there for a long time that day and that his parents had been delayed due to a car breakdown, for

admiration for her and her mother. They were grateful that she had taken the time to ensure their son’s safety and
comfort.

someone shared the post and it soon went viral. People, including friends, family and even strangers, praised her for
her empathy, bravery, and willingness to help a stranger in need. Her selfless acts served as a reminder that small
acts of kindness can really make a significant difference to someone’s life. Inspired by her daughter’s actions,
Tionae decided to organize events in the community to encourage people to help the needy at any time.
