Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their
teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their
older son. Suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than
to his parents. “The door to his room is always shut,” Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter.
“She used to sit in my arms on the sofa and talk with me,” said Mark.
“Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something.
Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a
young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”

Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what's on their minds.
“In fact, parents are the first on the list,” said Michael Riera, the author of
Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. “This completely changes
during the teen years.” Riera explained. “They talk to their friends first,
then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”
Parents who know what's going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the
best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents
should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and
try to find ways to talk or write to them. And they must give their children
a mental(精神的) break, for children also need freedom, though young.
Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a
manager, with their children is a better way to know them.
1.“The door to his room is always shut” suggests that the son .
A.dislikes opening his door
B.begins to hate his parents
C.is always busy with his studies
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
D.keeps himself away from his parents
2.What troubles Tina and Mark most?
A.Their daughter isn't as lovely as before.
B.They can't read their daughter's mind exactly.
C.They don't know what to say to their daughter.
D.Their daughter talks with them only when she needs money.
3.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Parents are patient with their silent teenagers.
B.Parents should try to understand their teenagers.
C.Parents are unhappy with their growing children.
D.Parents have suitable ways to talk with their teenagers.
B
Some parents said that they had difficulty in getting along with their
children. I have heard many parents complain that their teenage children
are rebellious. I wish it were so. At your age you ought to be growing
away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own
two feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
teenagers are taking the same way of showing that they disagree with
their parents. Instead of striking out boldly on their own, most of them are
holding firmly at one another's hands for sure.
They claim they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the
same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they
all end up crowded round listening to the same record. Their reason for
thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it.
They have come out of their cocoon(蚕茧) into a larger cocoon.
It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the
popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved
out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the
advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today's
parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their
children. All this adds up to a great barrier for the teenager who wants to
find his or her own path.
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following.
You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You
may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You
may have some thoughts that you don't care to share at once with your
classmates. Well, go to it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will
come—with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only
kind of popularity that really counts.
4.In this passage, the author wants to tell .
A.teenagers how to learn to decide things by themselves
B.readers how to be popular with people around
C.parents how to control and guide their children
D.people how to understand and respect each other
5.According to the author, many teenagers think they are brave enough to
act on their own, but in fact, most of them .
A.have much difficulty understanding each other
B.lack confidence
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
C.dare not cope with problems single-handed
D.are much afraid of getting lost
6.What does the author think of advertisements?
A.Convincing.
B.Influential.
C.Instructive.
D.Authoritative(权威的).
7.During the teenage years, one should learn to .
A.differ from others in as many ways as possible
B.get into the right reason and become popular
C.find one's real self
D.rebel against parents and the popularity wave
C
I suffered from mental illness and depression when I was younger,
which totally affected my teenage years. But after a long struggle, I found
a hobby that changed my life.
My depression really kicked in after my parents moved to the UK
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
when I was about 11 years old. Having to get used to life in a foreign
country was very difficult. The friends I knew were gone, and the
changes in my environment led to my depression. I had problems in many
parts of my life, which made it feel impossible for me to carry on.
At that time, I didn't understand that depression was an illness. I
remember a particular day when I couldn't find enough strength to get
myself home from playing in the park—it felt like I was carrying the
world on my shoulders.
Other times, I even thought about killing myself —I just felt so
trapped. I never really reached out for help either, as I felt that there
wasn't anyone who could help me with my situation.
What turned my life around, however, was discovering street dancing.
I was introduced to it by a friend, and I started taking classes at a studio
in London. After a few weeks, I began to go out and meet a lot of other
dancers to practice and train with them on a regular basis. It gave me a
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
purpose, and eventually the happiness I gained from it helped me manage
my depression. The dancing helped me get my life back, focus on my
studies, and get through university.
My advice to anyone who might be going through something like I
was is to reach out for help. The thing about life is that it changes, and
you never know what might come your way. If someone had said to me
during those dark moments that I would have gone on to achieve the
things I have, I wouldn't have ever believed it.
Just take each day as it comes, and remember that there's always
someone, or something, out there to help you.
8.How did the author deal with his depression at first?
A.He turned to his old friends for help.
B.He talked about it with his parents.
C.He put up with it by himself.
D.He read many articles about it.

A.It helped him find a good job.
B.It taught him how to control his emotions perfectly.

A.Always be confident in themselves.
B.Find someone or something to rescue them.
C.Wait for help to come patiently.

A.Hopeful. B.Fearful.

Studies show that humans and cats have been living together for
about 9,500 years. Dogs have lived with humans longer than cats, and
dogs have been trained to do what people want them to do.
As cat owners know well, cats do not follow humans in the same way
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
dogs do. As a result, many people have come to think that maybe cats do
not understand human language. A report shows that cats understand
human language well enough to recognize their own names. The report
tells a series of experiments with house cats in Japan. In these tests, people
said four words that were similar to cats' names, and each word had the
same number of syllables(音节) and some of the same sounds.
The cats seemed to lose interest after the speaker said a few of the
words. Then the person said the cats' names. The cats moved their ears
when they heard their names. They also moved their feet.
In another part of the experiment, Japanese researchers went to a cat
café, a business where humans can come to spend time with cats. They
compared house cats to cats that live at the cat café. People said the
names of the cats staying in the cat café. These house cats reacted(反应)
as much to the names of the cats living at the cat café just as to their own
names. The researchers thought this was because visitors may give food
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
to the cats when they reacted.
The researchers hope that the findings from their study will help both
cats and people. They add that perhaps cats can learn words to warn them
of dangerous things or places.
12.What does the report show?
A.Dogs can recognize their names.
B.Cats know nothing about humans.
C.Cats understand some human language.
D.Dogs have lived with humans shorter than cats.
13.How did the cats react when they heard their names in the tests?
A.They moved their ears.
B.They made a big noise.
C.They moved off the speaker.
D.They touched the speaker with their feet.
14.Why did the Japanese researchers go to the cat café?
A.To take care of cats.
B.To do an experiment with cats.
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
C.To buy some cat food.
D.To drink coffee.
15.What's the main idea of the passage?
A.The cats like to live with human beings.

C.The cats and dogs both are friends of human.
D.Human like dogs better than the cats.

第二节 概要写作(满分25 分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60 词左右的内容概要。
A 15-year-old boy planned to put a ball covered with petrol into his
mouth and set it on fire. He would film the dangerous action and put it on
YouTube. And, he hoped to become famous on the Internet. But things
didn't go the way he imagined. His clothing caught fire, and he was
rushed to the hospital with serious burns on his body.
YouTube hosts millions of videos of people attempting dangerous
actions. Many of them are made by kids and young adults. Some experts
say that by hosting these videos, YouTube encourages young viewers to
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
take deadly risks. Research by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention shows that more than 180,000 Americans die from accidental
injuries each year. That's one person every three minutes. More than
14,000 of those killed are kids under the age of 19. Is YouTube to blame?
People have always found it interesting to watch others try risky
things. Audiences are mad about these kinds of things. Some of the
earliest Greek comedies had characters followed by wild animals and
knocking into walls. Now, in the age of the Internet, anyone with a
camera and a YouTube account can create this kind of “fun”. Many
viewers, especially teenagers, are influenced by what they see and want
to try it themselves. “YouTube has taken the playing in the neighborhood
to a worldwide level,” says Clair Mellenthin, a researcher from the
Centers.
Supporters of YouTube argue that it isn't YouTube's responsibility to
examine its content. “Parents should be the ones to make sure that kids
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
are behaving safely,” they say. In fact, YouTube has a rule on content. For
example, dangerous activities that have a risk of serious physical harm or
death are not allowed. The staff of YouTube, carefully watch the website
24 hours a day, looking for videos that are against their rules. But is this
enough?
