Jessica and I wanted a dog more than anything else on Earth. At night, after Mom and Dad
had gone to bed, Jessica and I would sneak out our bedroom windows and we’d sit together on the
roof and talk about dogs. Sometimes, we had an argument about what our ideal dog would be. But
it didn’t really matter — any dog or puppy (小狗崽) would do.
One summer night, as we sat together on the roof, Jessica saw something. “What’s that?”
She pointed down toward a dark shadow on our driveway. The moon was up, and everything
looked either black or milky. All I saw was darkness. Then the shadow moved. For one astonished
second, Jessica and I just stared at each other. Then we scrambled down onto the porch. There in
our yard stood a dog. A big, black dog with long hair. Jessica made a little kissing noise and held
out her hand. And the dog came to us slowly, taking a few steps forward, then a step back, not sure
whether to trust us, I guess.
“She’s a female,” said Jessica.
“Oh,” I said, pulling back and looking. The dog was so skinny and her coat was full of dirt.
She must be a homeless dog.
“What can we give her?” I asked. Then I had a thought. “Bread! I’ll get her a big loaf of
bread.” So, Jessica waited with the dog, and I sneaked into the kitchen to fetch the bread.
The dog got the bread and ran into the shadows and disappeared. We smiled at each other in
the moonlight, our insides full of excitement. “We’re going to have a dog!” I whispered.
On the following nights, the dog, who we named “Shadow”, would come and Jessica and I
would prepare food for her. But we never saw her eating anything, and each time she got the food
she would run away into the darkness quickly.
“Why didn’t she eat?” I was curious. “And she is still so skinny.”“We can look into the case,” Jessica said. So, we decided to find out the truth.
One night, we followed Shadow secretly at a distance.

【参考范文】
One night, we followed Shadow secretly at a distance. After a long walk in the darkness,
eventually we found ourselves in a deserted yard. Carefully hiding, we saw Shadow affectionately
kissed four puppies and fed them with the food. “They’re her kids!” Jessica whispered to me.
Staring at this skinny mother and her malnourished puppies, our hearts swelled with warmth and
sympathy. But we knew Shadow’s action was not a long-term solution. So, when we were back
home, we talked with our parents over the whole matter. After a family discussion, we agreed to
help Shadow out.
Finally, we had a dog in our home and it was one of the puppies. We sent Shadow and the
other puppies to the animal shelter. That was because we didn’t have enough space for Shadow’s
whole family. We named the puppy we adopted Clare, and she lived a happy life in our home.
Each week, we would take Clare to visit her mother and her three siblings with food and toys.
Shadow and her kids also enjoyed a good life and received much attention. Soon, Shadow became
a healthy and elegant dog with glossy fur, and every puppy was treasured in new home. Jessica
and I achieved our dream to have a dog and we learned love was not ownership but giving andresponsibility.

Bill is a retired oil field engineer. His hands are thick, and his fingers branch out in all
directions. He moved back to America late in his career. His wife died of a serious disease so he
had to raise his three daughters on his own. In my parents’ eyes, Bill is hardworking and helpful.
Every day, when I pass by his yard to go to school in the morning, I often see him standingin his front door, smiling at me. But in my heart, Bill is the last person I am willing to talk with in
the world. When I was 7 years old, I picked fruits in his garden without his permission. He
scolded (责骂) me severely and let me apologize to him in front of my parents. I hated him and
swore (发誓) not to talk with him any more. What’s more, there is a scar (伤疤) on his face, which
makes me more afraid to get close to him.
Recently, Bill, in his seventies, invited my friends in our neighborhood to his house to
spend weekends. Of course, Bill also invited me several times but I turned him down.
My friends told me that they were surprised to find Bill was also experienced in playing
basketball, and they invited Bill to teach them to play basketball on weekends. Besides, Bill often
offered them sodas. It’s rare to see a bond that bridges generations. But I didn’t care all of these
any longer.
One week ago, my friends came to my home and expected me to join their basketball team
to have a match with the team from another neighborhood. I like playing basketball and I am good
at it so I agreed immediately. But when I was told Bill would give us guidance and it was he that
let my friends invite me to join the team, I hesitated. Eventually, I was persuaded to have a try.
The match started. Because I wanted to prove myself, I tried my best to shoot every time I
caught the ball. I didn’t pass the ball to my teammates. Ten minutes passed and our team didn’t
win one point.

I felt at a loss when Bill called time out. Hearing the whistle, I was reluctant to approach
him. He angrily told me that team work plays an important role in the match. I made a serious
mistake although my skill was better than other teammates’. He explained what everyone should
do next in detail. He encouraged us to do our best and reminded us that team work should be
placed first. Following his guidance, I readjusted my mindset and cooperated well with my
teammates. Soon we scored. We were excited and grew stronger in the game’s final minutes.
Finally, we won.
When each player in our team was celebrating our winning the game, I came up to Bill. I
took a deep breath and said, “Sorry. These years, I have been narrow-minded and unfriendly to
you.” Bill smiled and gave me a big hug. He said, “You are a great player. Congratulations!” Tears
filling my eyes, I realized no one is perfect. What’s important is that we should learn from
mistakes and then keep trying. We went home hand in hand. And since then, Bill and I have
become close friends.

Leo and Matt, both aged 16, are best friends who shared a passion for environmental

school and not to use cars too often. But two weeks passed, there was nothing better. Then they

thought-out plan for it.
They first gathered ten schoolmates who shared the same ambition. Then they started to
conduct a thorough survey to understand the root causes of the traffic congestion. They
interviewed students, teachers, and parents, as well as observed the traffic patterns during differenttimes of the day. They learned that the majority of the congestion was caused by parents dropping
off and picking up their children, as well as the lack of sufficient parking spaces.
Armed with this information, the team designed a detailed plan. They proposed the creation
of a carpool system for students, encouraging them to share rides to reduce the number of vehicles
on the road. They also suggested dedicated drop-off and pick-up zones, clearly marked with
signage, to help streamline the process.
To further reduce congestion, they advocated for the construction of bike racks (架子) and
encourage students to cycle to school. They even proposed a rewards system for those who chose
sustainable modes of transportation.

With their plan in hand, Leo and Matt presented it to the school authorities. They were
impressed with the students’ initiative and agreed to support their efforts. The school announced
the new measures and encouraged everyone to participate. As the weeks progressed, the carpool
system took shape, and more students started sharing rides. The bike racks were installed, andmore students were seen cycling to school. The rewards system also proved to be a hit. Students
who carpooled, cycled, or walked to school were rewarded with points that could be used for
prizes, adding a fun element to the initiative and further motivating students to participate.
A few months passing by, the school traffic congestion had significantly improved. The
narrow streets were no longer clogged, and the air was clearer. Everyone was happier, and the
school community felt more connected and environmentally responsible. They had not only solved
a long-standing problem but also instilled a sense of sustainability and teamwork among their
peers. Their story spread throughout the school and beyond, inspiring other students to take action
and make a positive impact in their own communities. Efforts of responsibility and sustainability
have finally paid off.

Falling ill can be a valuable teaching tool for doctors and it can have an influence on how
they look after patients.
Occasionally, doctors become patients, too. While as a doctor I wouldn’t wish ill health on
anyone, it can be an inspiring lesson for medical professionals to suddenly be on the other side.
This happened to me a few months ago when I had a stomachache, which had decided to
make its unwelcome presence just as I was going out for dinner with a friend.
The pain came from absolutely nowhere but within minutes I was unable to stand or walk. I
had no doubt that fellow sufferers would sympathise. I was quite astonished by how painful it was.
Of course, being a doctor, I initially refused to believe that anything was wrong.
I was checked by my coworkers I was worked with. They only said that it was nothing
serious. This reminded me of the time when I made conclusions without examining the patients
carefully. How I wish I could have been more considerate to my patients.
I wasn’t going to be defeated by the stomachache, so instead I chose to writhe (扭动)
around screaming for several hours until I had to admit that probably this was something more
serious than a stomachache. Even doctors can underestimate the mental burden that pain brings for
patients.
For the stomachache, I stayed in hospital for several days. Later, it turned out to be a kidney
stone, which had to be taken out. Given the pain, I had assumed the stone was actually a small
one. I was therefore fairly discouraged when it finally came out and it looked much smaller. How
could something so small be so painful?During my time in hospital, various doctors came to speak to me. They were all very nice
and polite but one stuck out in my mind. Whenever he came to my bed to speak to me, he knelt
down so he was at my eye level. He was actually the most senior of them all.

However, something about his manner and speech tone was incredibly calming. While it
took me a while to put my finger on what it was many times, he just adjusted it and waited for me.
What he was doing made me feel so relaxed and reassured. Every time he came to me, he would
kneel down and when he left, he would always say, “Have a nice day.” I truly felt moved and
respected. How considerate and concerned he was to his patients!
Getting down on a patient’s level is a simple adjustment doctors can make to their care.
Just that one simple act of kneeling down can make a difference. It seems such a small thing, but it
means a lot to the patients and all the other doctors and nurses can learn from it. They should learn
to walk in patients’ shoes and transform the way of care, thus relieving the patients’ mental stress
to some degree. It’s a trick that I’m going to start using myself during my career.

Jack and Bruce are good friends. They are both in Grade Six and love hanging out together
in their small fishing town.
One day, they decided to climb an ancient volcanic hill on a small island near their town to
celebrate their last days of primary school. Though the two boys had been to the island many
times before, Bruce’s parents were worried about them. With quick reassurance(保证), Bruce
raced out the door to meet Jack.Passing by a giant sculpture of a whale, Jack thought of the whales in the sea. Both of the
boys are whale lovers. They have raised hundreds of pounds towards saving them, but they know
they need to do even more. Maybe being in high school will help?
Since the island is not very far away from the mainland, soon they were nearly at the island.
Suddenly, they heard a strange noise. Could it be coming from the many nesting birds on the
island?
Determined to work out the mystery, they began to search. To their shock, they discovered a
whale that had been trapped in a fishing net. In order to free the poor creature, they repeatedly
dived down into the freezing sea to cut the net, but eventually, they were worn out. With a storm
rolling in, they had to admit defeat.
As they rowed back, Bruce and Jack discussed what they should do next. They knew they
couldn’t leave the whale trapped like that. They had to do something.
Back at home, they told their parents what they had found, and together they came up with
a plan. They would raise money to hi re a boat with a bigger engine. They would also ask local
businesses and people to donate food for the whale. Then they went door to door in the town,
asking for help. Luckily, many local people offered to join them to rescue the trapped whale.

The next day, the storm blew over and the sky cleared. Bruce, Jack, their parents, and the
volunteers they had rallied, set out early in the morning aboard the newly rented boat, its engine
roaring with promise. The sea, now calmer, mirrored the serenity of the freshly washed sky above.
Spirits were high as they navigated towards the island, each person on board carrying the weight
of hope and determination to save the trapped whale.
They stopped the boat not far away from the whale. The team sprang into action, dividing
themselves into smaller groups with specific tasks. With a nod from the team leader, the divers
plunged into the chilly water, their breaths held in anticipation. As the net gradually loosened, the
whale seemed to sense the progress, its movements becoming less strained. With one final
strategic cut, the whale was freed from its aquatic prison. Back on the boat, cheers erupted, and
tears of joy mixed with the salty sea breeze. For Bruce and Jack, this adventure marked not only
the end of their primary school years but the beginning of a lifelong commitment to making a
difference in the world.

One click of my wooden stick, and the buffaloes (水牛) moved forward. I guided them
along the road’s edge, through the heart of the village. We walked past mud homes and villagers
bent over tending to their crops. We eyed the green fields, where the buffaloes could eat growing
grass. This was my life in a small village in Sindh, Pakistan. We had little, but I had a big dream.
Up ahead laughter attracted my attention. A group of students came into view, their
uniforms a contrast to my faded trousers and worn-out shoes. Fingers wrapped tight around my
stick, I stepped forward and said sincerely, “Dear students, could you please show me your
books?” The students looked from my face to my stick, to their books. They quickly opened their
bags and showed me their books. Illustrations of people and places caught my imagination.
“Someday, I’ll go to school too,” I declared, returning their books. Actually, I was desperate
to go to school so that I could broaden my horizons.
Months passed. Every day I rose to my chores and buffaloes. Until, one day I got my
chance. My uncle came to visit. He and Father sat, drinking tea outside. “Brother, you must send
Rasool Bux to school. Herding the buffaloes is not in his future,” Uncle convinced my father. thatall children should go to school. The following week, I was studying in primary school. Now,
armed with my own books, I set out to learn everything. I read textbooks, asked questions, and
even read newspapers for my father and his companions.
By the end of the year, I proved to be one of the best students in the school. I resolved to
study at college or university in Karachi, a big city over 150 kilometers away. Unfortunately, I
suffered from a skin condition that left white spots on my skin. The constant loss of skin color was
stressful, making me feel bad about myself and even drawing attention away from my studies.

After we arrived in Marco, my parents said that we would first visit the Marco tower.
Marco Tower, built in the late 19th century, is a historic landmark that showcases the rich
architectural heritage of the city. It is also considered one of the top tourist attractions in the
region. Upon hearing the inspiring news, I bounced up and down with joy. But then I felt a bit
uneasy because of my fear of heights.
Inside the lift, my palms grew sweaty as the anxiety consumed me. I paced back and forth
in the tower lift, unsure of whether I would have the courage. After the lift reached the specific
floor, I gasped (倒吸一口气) in horror. The floor here was made of glass, so one could appreciate

An Insignificant Task
The day when the jobs were handed out was one of the most exciting for all the children in
the class. It took place during the first week of the term. On that day, every boy and girl was given
a job for which they would be responsible for the rest of that school year.
As with everything, some jobs were more interesting than others, and the children were
eager to be given one of the best ones. When giving them out, the teacher took into account which
pupils had been most responsible during the previous year, and those children were the ones who
most looked forward to this day. Among them, Rita stood out. She was a kind and quiet girl.
During the previous year she had carried out the teacher’s instructions perfectly. All the children
knew Rita was the favourite to be given the best job of all: to look after the class dog.
But this year there was a big surprise. Each child received one of the normal jobs, like
preparing the books for the lessons, telling the time, cleaning the blackboard, or looking after one
of the pets. However, Rita’s job was very different. She was given a little box containing some
sand and one ant. Even though the teacher insisted that this ant was a very special ant, Rita could
not help feeling disappointed. Most of her classmates felt sorry for her. They sympathised with her
and remarked at how unfair it was that she had been given that job.
Yet, Rita, who liked her teacher very much, chose to prove her worth through excellence. “I
will turn this little task into something great,” Rita said to herself. What she didn’t know was thatthe teacher had secretly entered her into a rainforest insect raising competition.

Rita started investigating all about her little ant. She meticulously researched ants’
behaviors, their habitats, and their roles in ecosystems. She constructed a miniature ecosystem
within the box, carefully imitating the ant’s natural environment. Rita observed the ant’s
movements, carefully documenting its behavior and interactions with the sand and the
environment she provided. She even consulted experts and read scientific journals to ensure she
was providing the best care possible for her tiny companion. As days passed, Rita’s classmates
noticed her dedication and became interested by her project. Rita shared her findings with the
class, gradually turning her seemingly ordinary task into a fascinating learning experience for
everyone.
On the last day of the school year, the teacher burst into the classroom with excitement. “I

secret support for Rita surprised everyone in the class, making them gasp and cheer with joy. “The
judges were truly amazed by Rita’s unwavering commitment to her ant,” the teacher continued.
Her words left a profound impact on the children in the classroom. That day, every one learned a

When I was in high school, like many other teenage boys, I played in a band. Most of our
families came from South Africa, so, we mixed our favorite hard rock and heavy metal songs with
elements of South African rhythms and melodies. Although our band didn’t achieve widespread
success, we had a special night that I would never forget, when we realized the unique impact of
music on lonely hearts.
At our school’s talent show, we weren’t the best, but we were good enough to come in third
place, which made us more confident. Then, we decided to test the waters beyond our classmates.
When we were booked for a charitable event at a large hospital, we were delighted. This
opportunity was a thrilling breakthrough. Yet, beneath our excitement, we felt a sense of anxiety to
perform for strangers-could our tunes really touch an audience unfamiliar with our sound?
For two weeks, we threw ourselves into intense practice sessions, meeting daily after school
to practice hard and learn enough songs to fill a one-hour show.
On the concert day, we arrived early to check the stage. We felt nervous as we stood there
and looked out at the hundred or so empty chairs lined up below us. After setting up and doing a
quick sound check, we went backstage to have a soda and rest, doing anything to calm our nerves.
While we were back there the hospital’s entertainment director came over to chat with us.
“Okay, boys, there are a couple of important details you should know,” she began. “Many
in the audience today are suffering from severe physical and/or mental disabilities. Don’t be
surprised by that. These patients have very few chances to see live entertainment of any kind, so
they enjoy any kind of musical act that we can provide. Just go ahead and play your regular show,
and you’ll do fine.” After saying that, she left, joining into the theatre to help the volunteers and

Before long, it was time to begin our show. Because of our persistent practice in the past two
weeks, the songs we had practiced many times naturally flowed out of our mouths like running
water. Everyone in our band seemed to be immersed in smooth music and forgot the empty
audience seats. Suddenly, the guitar in my hand broke, which bounced me back to reality. The
performance came to an abrupt end and the audience was in an uproar. However, after a few
minutes, the audience quieted down and seemed to be waiting for something. We can have no idea
about this sudden change. We were so ashamed that we quickly packed our instruments and
prepared to leave the stage.
“Don’t go! You don’t understand—they love your performance!” said the director. Just then,
several audiences stood up, clapped their hands vigorously and said loudly, “Please keep on! Only
you really sing for us patients, which is the best music we have ever heard.” This was also the
most encouraging evaluation we had heard. Deeply moved, we picked up our musical instruments
again. Although my guitar was broken, we played with full enthusiasm. The exhalations of the
audience and our songs merged in the sky above the concert. This was the most beautiful sound in
the world.

William grew up in Miami in a rough area. William’s father ran a fish business in the
Florida Keys, and William helped with it. Fishing was a huge part of their life. His father always
said, “Fishing is so peaceful, and it is like an escape.”
Inspired by his father. William founded a nonprofit fishing organization in Lakeland,
Florida, which took many kids on fishing trips. Its purpose was to instruct poor kids without their
fathers’ company through the sport of fishing.
During the weekdays, William worked as a tire salesman. On weekends, he and a few other
volunteers, mostly people from his workshop, took about 20 kids out to fish in the nearby river at
a time. To make the kids enjoy fishing safely and happily, he previously led his staff in
professional training in fishing and boating.William went to local homes himself to invite the kids to go fishing. Many had never been
fishing or even on a boat, so William. or Big Will, as the kids call him, started by teaching the
basics. Then came the life lessons that fishing offered: patience, teamwork and the simple joy of
relaxing outdoors. The fishing organization took more than 600 fishing trips with almost 2,000
kids who lacked their fathers’ company in their lives.
Of course, William’s great kindness was widely recognized in society. When William
explained his mission to Captain Jack, who was in charge of a boat in Clearwater, Captain Jack
offered him a great deal. Then the nonprofit fishing organization paid less money to spend
weekends on the boat. The kids were inspired to release little fish. On a recent trip with kids from
a group home, William kept some big fish and enjoyed delicious fish soup with the kids at dinner.
William kept searching the neighborhood for kids in need and sharing his love of fishing
with the kids. He said, “I just want to show them that I care about them and that I’m there for
them.” Many kids went on multiple trips, so William was able to build relationships with them.

positive changes in Camron’s behavior. Camron also called William Big Will and regarded him as
a father figure.
Big Will’s reputation was growing, and the nonprofit fishing organization attracted more
sponsors besides Captain Jack. They donated many items including rods, reels and fishing

neighborhoods to fish. Now that it begins, he wishes it can snowball fast and benefit more kids

People always say that with exercise, putting on your shoes is the hardest part. But for
Emma, this was a lie. The real pain always started when all the students were gathered on the
track, ready to run. It wasn’t the fatigue she minded, it was the looks others gave her. Emma was
bigger than others of her age. Back in primary school, she remembers her classmates asking her
why her thighs (大腿) were so big and her chest so wide. On the outside, she looked big, but on
the inside, she felt as small as a pea. And PE class was when she felt at her smallest.
Not all her classmates made her feel uncomfortable, though. It was mainly a group of girls
and boys—the loud, outspoken, popular kids. Although they could run faster than Emma, they
preferred to jog a bit behind her, bursting out in laughter every now and then, commenting on how
Emma jogged.
Just one more year, Emma kept telling herself. One more year and I’ll have graduated and
won’t have to take this stupid PE class anymore. She just wanted to survive it.
But everything changed when a new girl called Kit joined the class. She had short, jet-black
hair, bright eyes, and a long scar across the left side of her face. Her entrance into the classroomthat day was met by dozens of curious eyes.
Although their teacher, Ms Hardy, didn’t ask Kit for a personal introduction, upon putting
her bag down on her desk, Kit rose, saying, “Hi, everyone, nice to meet you, I’m Kit. I love
boxing, animation and fashion. You might be wondering about my scar. I got it when I was young
when I fell off my bike. Luckily, I didn’t get hurt more seriously. It’s now like a cool trademark of
all the adventures I had as a kid.”
After Kit’s introduction, Emma simply sat there, her heart pounding and mouth wide open.
How could someone be so confident? Even the popular kids were sitting there in shock.

At lunchtime, Emma was sitting at her usual table with a few other classmates when Kit
walked over to them. She enthusiastically asked to join them and sat beside Emma. Glances and
whispers from others around them centered on Kit’s scar, and even Emma couldn’t avoid its puts.Yet, Kit didn’t seem bothered, engaging in lively chats as if nothing exile happening. Emma was
intrigued by Kit’s indifference to the attention hers scar drew. Sensing her unease, Kit openly
addressed the issue, sharing her experiences of accepting her scar and the significance of
resilience against external judgments. Her words found an echo in Emma’s heart, inspiring her to
embrace her true self.
On Friday, it was time for the fearful PE class, but this time, Kit was with her. “Ready to
jog?” called the teacher. Briefly halted by sidelong stares from the popular kids, Emma found her
resolve with Kit’s encouraging words. Together they ran, with Kit’s smile a beacon a support.
Laughter erupted while Kit’s “Ignore them!” rang out, empowering Emma. As the wind raced
alongside them, Emma ran, outrunning the jeers and the part of herself overly concerned with the
opinions of others. At the finish, Emma, although physically tired, had gained new found strength,
discovering that true confidence comes from within, not from others’ words. In the sun’s embrace,
the two girls walked together talking and laughing.

“You’re fired!” Andrew Chilton wasn’t joking. At that moment, the high school junior
wanted his personal care attendant, Christy Chachere, out of his life forever. He didn’t want her to
tell him he needed help when he intended to use the computer—he believed he could write his
own term papers.“You’re fired!” He said it again for extra emphasis. And Andrew’s outburst? Actually, it was
music to Christy’s ears. It meant much progress and she’d got through to Andrew finally.
When 8-year-old Andrew was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a developmental
disorder which affects emotional, communication and behavioral skills, people told his mom,
Cindy, to get him on the list for an attendant to provide after-school care. In New Orleans,
Louisiana, the wait can be years; the need is far more than the supply. Cindy chose a program
through Volunteers of America, a national faith-based organization.
Even so, it was eight years before they were matched with Christy. In the meantime,
Andrew’s family did their best to shelter him from life’s hardships. “I’m worried about him,”
Cindy says. There was a lot to worry about. Doctors and school officials predicted that Andrew
might not even graduate from the high school. Cindy would do anything for her son.
Christy saw the problem right away. “Andrew wouldn’t take a step without his mother’s
permission,” she remembers. “You have to let him fail,” she told the family. “It’s the only way
he’s going to learn to do things on his own.”
No longer would Cindy write Andrew’s papers for him. His younger brother wouldn’t help
him use the computer. Christy wouldn’t be helping him with his homework, either. It was a little
scary to step back. But everyone was on board. Everyone but Andrew.

As the warm summer sun shone down on us, my dad and I stood in front of our house.
“Would you like to go see Rhys and take him for ice cream?” my dad asked. I froze on the spot. I
love my younger brother dearly, but it had been well over a year and a half since I had been in
public with Rhys. The thought made me feel anxious.
Rhys is 14 and severely cognitively impaired (认知能力受损的). He was diagnosed with a
rare genetic mutation (突变) at birth. When I was young, I accompanied my mom or dad to pick
him up from his new long-term care home at the end of our busy weekends to spend some time
with him, normally at our home.
After picking Rhys up and taking the short car trip, we arrived at the ice cream store. I held
onto Rhys in his chair while Dad placed our order. Rhys loves to grab things. He grabbed a
woman walking by. I apologized immediately, full of embarrassment.
After getting our ice cream, we sat outside. At this point, I was upset and just wanted to go
home. Dad could tell that I was upset. He silently understood and let me be. But then I saw a
father and a daughter walking along the road toward the ice cream store. The girl’s movements
seemed strangely familiar. I noticed she was excited, behaving similarly to Rhys.
Watching those two changed my thinking completely. I realized I wasn’t the only one in this
situation: out in public with a family member with special needs. I smiled as I watched the father
and the daughter just enjoying their day and not focusing on what others’ thought. They acted just
like every other “typical” family. It occurred to me that I shouldn’t let what others think about
Rhys ruin our time together. My days of being embarrassed by his actions had to come to an end.

My parents were taking my sisters and me to the beach after several months of planning.
We were all very excited. However, we didn’t know what awaited us that day.
We set out early as the beach was 200 miles away from our house. After travelling for two
hours, we had only covered 100 miles because of the poor condition of the road. Moreover, that
was a remote road and we didn’t see anyone or any house along the way. Suddenly, a loud noisefrightened us. The car sharply swung to one side as my lather hit the brakes. Shocked, we got out
and saw a flat tire (轮胎). Dad made a phone call to the roadside rescue, and the response he
received was that it would take two hours to arrive. Dad decided to change the tire on his own,
even though he had never done it before, as he always got help from a technician. He spent over
an hour looking up how to change a flat tire in the car’s handbook and finally got it done. After he
finished changing if, it was midday, so we decided to take a lunch break before hitting the road
again.
After driving for another hour, the car made some strange sounds, slowed down and
stopped. Dad tried to start the engine again, but it didn’t work. It was clear that something was
wrong. With no houses or other vehicles in sight, we realized we were stranded (使滞留) in the
middle of nowhere.
A feeling of frustration and disappointment washed over us. However, we knew we had to
stay positive and find a solution. Dad lifted the hood (引擎盖) and examined the engine, hoping to
find a simple fix. After some time, he discovered a loose wire that might cause the problem. With
his limited knowledge of car mechanics, he managed to reconnect the wire. To our relief, the
engine roared back to life. We cheered, grateful that the problem was resolved without needing
outside help. Determined to reach our destination, we got back on the road, hoping the worst was
behind us.

【参考范文】
But when the rain poured down, we knew the bad luck wasn’t over. The heavy rain made it even
harder to see the road ahead, and the wind started to blow strongly. The car began to shake and
swerve on the wet road, making us all very nervous. Dad had to drive very slowly and carefully,
trying to keep the car under control. We prayed that the rain would stop soon and our journey
would become safer.
Finally, after a long and hard journey, we arrived at the beach. Despite the setbacks we
had faced, our excitement and joy knew no bounds. We ran towards the beach, feeling the sand
beneath our feet and the warm sun on our faces. The beautiful scenery and the sound of the ocean
waves made all the trouble we had gone through seem worth it. We spent the rest of the day
playing in the water, building sandcastles, and enjoying each other’s company. It was a trip we
would never forget, filled with both challenges and wonderful memories.
