M: Well, guilty pleasure foods tend to be the ones we restrict ourselves from enjoying, often by not keeping them in
our homes, and when we do eat them, we do eat very little.
W: Sounds interesting. What’s your guilty pleasure food?
M: For me it’s chocolate. Eating things like that isn’t entirely a bad thing. If I have an argument with a friend, it’s
okay to have something nice like a bar of chocolate. It lifts my mood. Chocolate contains something that makes us
feel happier.
W: So eating lots of chocolate cake every time you’re upset is recommended?
M: No, not at all. You need to strike the right balance. You know my job is to advise people about how to select
good food and stay healthy. Nutrition is essential to fitness and health.
W: OK. Is it easy to keep to a diet? From my experience, it’s quite tough. Anyway, I’m getting hungry. Are you
ready to order?

【答案】17.B 18.C 19.A 20.B
【原文】
M: I recently joined the nature club at school. I had wanted to join the science club but they had no spaces
left, so I had to change my decision. At first, I thought I was not interested in this, but it has turned out to be
amazing. I’ve learned some interesting and helpful facts about nature. For example, do you know that 97% of the
earth’s water is actually salt water found in the oceans? That means only 3% of the planet’s water is fresh water, yet
we can only use one-third of it, as the remainder is too far underground or is ice. Another interesting fact I’ve
learned is that forests cover 30% of all land on Earth. At least a third of that has been completely undisturbed byhuman activity. Speaking of forests, I read a report online in 2019, which said we lose a piece of rainforest the same
size as a football field every six seconds. However, a quarter of all modern medicines come from plants found in
rainforests. That is why saving the rainforests is so important. Not only do they provide us with fresh air to breathe,
but they also grow things that keep us healthy. I’m going to share this fact with the nature club on Wednesday.

Papa, as a son of a dirt-poor farmer, left school early and went to work in a factory, for education was for the
rich then. So, the world became his school. With great interest, he read everything he could lay his hands on,listened to the town elders and learned about the world beyond his tiny hometown. “There’s so much to learn,” he’d
say. “Though we’re born stupid, only the stupid remain that way.” He was determined that none of his children
would be denied an education.
Thus, Papa insisted that we learn at least one new thing each day. And dinner time seemed perfect for sharing
what we had learned. We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken
lightly. Papa would listen carefully and was ready with some comment, always to the point.
Then came the moment — the time to share the day’s new learning.
Papa, at the head of the table, would push back his chair and pour a glass of red wine, ready to listen.
“Felice,” he’d say, “tell me what you learned today.” “learned that the population of Nepalis...”
Silence. Papa was thinking about what was said, as if the salvation of the world would depend upon it. “The
population of Nepal. Hmm. Well…” he’d say. “Get the map; let’s see where Nepal is.” And the whole family went
on a search for Nepal.
This same experience was repeated until each family member had a turn. Dinner ended only after we had a
clear understanding of at least half a dozen such facts.
As children, we thought very little about these educational wonders. Our family, however, was growing
together, sharing experiences and participating in one another’s education. And by looking at us, listening to us,
respecting our input, affirming our value; giving us a sense of dignity, Papa was unquestionably our most influential
teacher.
Later during my training as a future teacher, I studied with some of the most famous educators. They were
imparting what Papa had known all along — the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all
my life. Not a single day has been wasted, though I can never tell when knowing the population of Nepal might
prove useful.
24.What do we know from the first paragraph?
A.The poor could hardly afford school education.
B.Those born stupid could not change their life.
C.The town elders wanted to learn about the world.
D.The author’s father was born in a worker’s family.
25.What can we know about the author?
A.He enjoyed talking about news.
B.He knew very well about Nepal.C.He appreciated his father’s educational technique.
D.He felt regret about those wasted days.
26.What is the greatest value of “dinner time” to the author?
A.Showing talents. B.Family get-together.
C.Continual learning. D.Winning Papa’s approval.
27.Which of the following can best describe the author’s father?
A.He was a wise man willing to share his knowledge.
B.He was a teacher strict about everything his students did.
C.He was an educator expert at training future teachers.
D.He was a parent insistent on his children’s education.
【答案】24.A 25.C 26.C 27.D
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了父亲以身作则,重视每日学习,深刻影响子女。

选A。
25.推理判断题。根据最后一段“His technique has served me well all my life. Not a single day has been
wasted, though I can never tell when knowing the population of Nepal might prove useful.(他这种方法让我一生
受益匪浅。每一天都过得充实,尽管我并不知道了解尼泊尔的人口何时会派上用场)”可知作者欣赏父亲的
教育方法。故选C。
26.细节理解题。根据第二段“Thus, Papa insisted that we learn at least one new thing each day. And dinner
time seemed perfect for sharing what we had learned. We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how
insignificant, it was never taken lightly.(因此,父亲坚持让我们每天至少学习一件新事物。而晚餐时间似乎是

A recent study from the University of Guelph in Canada has revealed a surprising discovery about common
eastern bumblebees (大黄蜂): These insects can survive underwater for up to a week. This finding, published in the
journal Biology Letters, came about due to an experimental error when researchers placed hibernating (冬眠的)
queen bumblebees in water and found them alive days later. The discovery has impressed scientists. particularly
because bumblebees are land-based creatures not typically associated with water environments.
Nigel Raine, a professor in the school of environmental sciences at the university and the study’s lead author,
expressed his astonishment at the results. To further explore this phenomenon, Raine and his team conducted an
experiment involving 143 hibernating queen bumblebees. They discovered that those placed underwater for up to
seven days had similar survival rates to those not, indicating that the bees’ ability to survive such conditions may be
more common than previously thought.
The research underlines the strength of bumblebees during their hibernation period. a critical phase in their
life cycle that has remained largely unexplored. Queen bumblebees typically hibernate alone in small holes during
the cold months, which are believed to protect them from flooding. However, this study reveals that these bees
possess an unexpected adaptation, allowing them to survive even in flooded conditions.
Given these findings, one possible explanation for their survival is diapause, a state of suspended growth and
reproduction characterized by reduced oxygen intake. During this state. bumblebees may close their spiracles (气
孔) to prevent water from entering their bodies, and they might also breathe through their skin. This energy-saving
mode is likely a key factor in their ability to survive beneath the water.
Raine emphasized the importance of understanding these mechanisms, as it could have significant
implications for the study of wild insects that help with plant reproduction, which are crucial for food security and
ecosystem health, His team’s research will aim to determine whether hibernating queens can survive even longer
periods underwater and if similar strength exists in other bee species.
28.What do we know about the finding?
A.It matched prior beliefs. B.It concerned sea insects.
C.It was fully anticipated. D.It was made by accident.
29.What can be inferred about bumblebees from paragraph 3?
A.They hibernate in groups for protection.B.They are always protected from flooding.
C.They have a hidden adaptation mechanism. D.They reproduce better in flooded conditions.
30.What may Nigel Raine do in the future?A.Secure research patents. B.Prioritize dietary security.
C.Conduct further research. D.Raise ecological awareness.
31.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.Bumblebee Reproductive Habits B.Bumblebee Hibernation Patterns
C.Scientists’ Experimental Methods D.Bumblebee Survival Underwater
【答案】28.D 29.C 30.C 31.D

水下生存的发现及其意义,因此D项“Bumblebee Survival Underwater(大黄蜂在水下生存)”是最合适的标
题。故选D项。
D
Allow me to list the short-lived hobbies I started and quickly gave up when I didn’t succeed pottery, softball,
violin and designing new-style T-shirts. Uncomfortable to ask for help, I’d rather drop a hobby than give myself
time to improve. Being challenged can make me angry sometimes.
Babies and children feel challenged almost at everything, because each experience is new. Adults, on the
other hand, see anything less than doing really well as failure. If you’re at all like me, you protect yourself from
this feeling and avoid hobbies that might show a lack of competence.
Although challenges can bring discomfort, we shouldn’t shy away from activities we enjoy simply because
we aren’t great at them. As the season for new habits and hobbies comes, put your pride to one side, and embrace
the challenge.
The way you think about your abilities can influence your performance. There are two ways people view
success: fixed mindset and growth mindset. If you have a fixed mindset, you may believe you already have all the
skills and abilities you will ever have and you may never improve with effort. Growth mindset is the belief that you
can advance through hard work, support, and a different method. “To develop a growth mindset, remind yourself
that the first time you began any endeavor, you probably met challenges,” says Daya Grant, a mental performance
coach. “Then you got better. As you learn and build skills, however slowly, celebrate those little wins. A win is a
win. It doesn’t really matter to the brain how big or small it is.”
“But If you love the challenge,” Grant says, “or enjoy the hard work, accept the fact that you may be doing
the thing, whether it’s dancing or playing the violin, well enough.” This reminder is one I’ll take with me as I start
new projects that I might not be naturally good at. Catch me at a pottery wheel or playing my guitar in my
bedroom. Or don’t. The results may not be pretty—and I do not care.32.What’s the function of the first paragraph?
A.To provide background information. B.To bring about the topic of the passage.
C.To stress the importance of success. D.To introduce his personal experience
33.What does the underlined word “this feeling” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Feeling confident almost at everything B.Dropping a hobby rather than improving it.
C.Seeing anything that can’t do well as failure. D.Avoiding hobbies showing a lack of abilities
34.What does Daya Grant think is important in developing a growth mindset?
A.Building practical and creative skills. B.Asking for professional suggestions.
C.Having enough patience and confidence.D.Developing a strong sense of competition.
35.What can we learn about the author from the last paragraph?
A.He has developed his own ways of succeeding. B.He has learned how to balance life and work.
C.He cares a lot about what others think of him D.He now learns how to embrace challenges.
Allow me to list the short-lived hobbies I started and quickly gave up when

新)”推知,空处指出监控的价格不是特别便宜,但如果运气好的话,电力供应商会免费提供。A项
Generally, this type of device will cost between £25 and £40.(一般来说,这种设备的价格在25到40英镑之间)
符合语境,其中 £25 and £40与下文for free对应,都在讲花费在这设备上钱的问题,所以本句有启下作
用。故选A项。40.由上文“With just twelve years (now seven years) to go until climate change alters earth forever, now is the

In a busy street of New York City, two strangers, Emily and Jack, found themselves on an unexpected
journey of kindness and connection.
Emily, a young graphic (图案的) designer, was hurrying home after a late- night shift when she accidentally
dropped her bag, scattering (散落) its contents onto the sidewalk. The scattered items were her work laptop, her
latest design drawings, her mother's medication and some other things that were crucial to Emily. The wind was so
strong that it could have blown her belongings away at any moment. Tired out, she knelt down, trying to gather her
scattered belongings. Just then, Jack, a middle- aged man with a gentle smile, approached her. “Let me help you
with that,” Jack offered, his voice warm and reassuring.
“Oh, thank you so much!” Emily replied with embarrassment.
As they picked up the items together, they struck up a conversation. Emily shared her story of a busy week,
mentioning how her mother had always been a pillar (支柱) of support for her and her ten-year-old sister since their
father's early passing, a source of unconditional love and wisdom that had shaped their lives. Jack, in turn, talked
about his recent retirement and his dreams of hosting his own photography exhibition, showcasing the beauty he
had captured through his camera over the years.
Suddenly, Emily's phone rang. It was her sister, panic- stricken, informing her that their mother needed
immediate medical attention. Emily's face paled, and her hands started to shake. Jack asked, “Is everything
alright?”
“My mother...she needs me, but I don't know how to get to the hospital quickly. I have no car.” Emily said,
tears welling up in her eyes. Without hesitation, Jack said, “I'll take you there. My car is parked nearby.” When they
arrived at the hospital, Jack insisted on staying until Emily's mother was stabilized.
Weeks later, Emily's mother made a full recovery. Wanting to repay Jack's kindness, Emily decided to do
something for his dream.

【答案】
Then, Emily rang up Jack with a proposal. “I really appreciate what you have done for me. Without your help,
my mother couldn’t have recovered. My family means so much to me.” Emily said, with tears in her eyes, “In
return for your help, I also want to do something for you, Jack. Let me host a photography exhibition for you,
showing the beauty you had captured through your camera over the years.” When listening this, Jack was very
amazed and grateful. He was deeply moved by Emily’s suggestion.
Emily spent countless hours working on the exhibition. Despite the difficulties ahead, she was full of strength
and confidence in her hearts. Tired as she was, she felt she had great passion for the exhibition. Because Emily
knew that were it not for Jack’s help, her mother may couldn’t have survived that day. The two strangers tried their
best to help each other. Finally, the exhibition was a great success. Jack was in tears because his dream came true. It
was love that makes the world go around, which Emily felt deep in her heart.
