1.【2024 届广西柳州高中、南宁三中高三联考试题】
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语段续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数为150
左右。
As an independent, self-reliant person who always handled everything by myself, I didn’t expect parenting to
be hard. Oh, sure, it’s difficult for other people. I heard parents complaining all the time — kids are challenging;
nothing is ever clean; there’s not enough time in the day to do everything. But that was “other people” and I knew I
could handle it. How complicated could it be?
I’d always dreamed of adopting a child, and finally my dream came true one summer afternoon. Even though
we had requested only one child, the worker asked, “Could you take another baby and his eleven-year-old brother?”
Of course, we could. We had room to have all three boys together.
The first week after they moved in, I spent my days rushing from task to task, cleaning and making sure they
had all they needed. I constantly organized our living room, which was suddenly full of toys, and picked up the
path of destruction left in the boys’ wake. Cooking and cleaning after meals and snacks seemed to take half of my
day. I hardly ever sat; something always needed to be done.
“I think we need a break,” my husband told me one evening as I was falling asleep on the couch as usual.
“No,” I refused. The idea of sending them to a stranger sickened me. However, with each passing day, I was
growing more and more exhausted. Besides meeting the physical needs of the boys, there were medical and
emotional needs. Both the little ones constantly clung ( 黏住) to me. It was never quiet in our house; I felt
overwhelmed.
One night, my husband said firmly that he needed a break. Whether I “needed” one or not, we were going to
take one. With tears rolling down my cheeks, I nodded, knowing it was true, although I didn’t want to admit my
weakness.
I called my parents.

Barry is a middle-aged man who is going through a very difficult time in his life. His wife recently passed
away. She and Barry had many happy years together, sharing their free time and even starting a business together.
Without his wife, Barry is full of sorrow and feels that life is pointless. He even decides to close their business
because working there makes him miss her too much.
Even months later, Barry sits around in his house all day feeling gloomy. His friends and family try to get him
out of the house and encourage him to start doing new things and enjoy life, but they are not successful.
Barry’s neighbor, a very old woman named Gertrude, sees him from her yard one day as he steps out onto his
porch. She has not seen him outside in days! She asks him to come closer. Irritated, he walks to the fence that
protects the front of her house.
“Hello, Barry! Just look at this fence. I only had it put in two years ago, but it is falling apart. You are a strong
man, and you have some free time. I want you to fix this fence for me,” Gertrude says.
Barry is angry. She knows the situation he is in. He is the one who needs help and support. He thinks the old
lady is being very selfish. Still, he knows she is too old to fix the fence herself, and they have been neighbors for
years. She is a nice woman, and he respects her. He agrees to fix her fence because it is really not safe for her to
have it broken like that.
Barry works on the fence for days. Gertrude brings him lemonade while he works. When he finishes, she is
very grateful. Barry smiles for the first time in months.
“Now that you did such a wonderful job fixing my fence, do you think you could paint it for me?” Gertrude
smiles at him.

3.【2024 届河南省开封市高三二测试题】
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My daughter and I were fans of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, an educational children’s television series that
was created and hosted by Fred Rogers, more commonly known as Mister Rogers.
Around my daughter’s second birthday, I had a Mister Rogers-inspired idea. Why not invite one key person in
my daughter’s world to dinner each month? The local children’s librarian could visit one evening, and perhaps the
borough mayor (区长) could drop by a few weeks later.
But I wanted to start at the top.
“Let’s invite Mister Rogers himself, ” I said to my wife. “After all, he lives just a few neighborhoods away. I
bet he’d come.”
She looked at me as if I wanted to invite the President. “You really think Mister Rogers would come to our
house for dinner? Fat chance.”
Undeterred (不气馁的), I sent a letter to Mister Rogers that fall, telling him of my newfound delight in his
show and my idea for inviting neighborhood people over to talk about their lives, and asking him and Mrs. Rogers
to be our guests.
I told my daughter about the letter. Her eyes glistened (发光). “Mister Rogers coming? Really, Daddy?”
One month later, no reply. My daughter hadn’t forgotten and periodically asked when Mister Rogers would be
visiting. I always told her that he hadn’t called yet and that it was a good opportunity to learn about patience.
Two months later, no response. At the three-month mark, my wife simply rolled her eyes when I raised the
topic. I was beginning to lose optimism. Mister Rogers had let me down.
Sadly, Mister Rogers passed away in late February of the following year. I was unaware of his illness and now
understood why our invitation had gone unanswered. Mister Rogers would not be coming to dinner after all. Yet,
even after his passing, Mister Rogers gave us a far greater gift than I ever could have imagined.

4.【2024 届安徽省安庆市高三下学期二模试题】

I was eleven years old. This was my first soccer game. With little knowledge of the rules of the game, I was
nervous and uneasy, but still excited. With kids running at me from all directions, I observed the skills that many of
my teammates possessed. Their motions appeared so suggest hand effortless, while their faces revealed their
attachment to the game. I, however, lacked the spirit of playing aggressively that many of the other kids had.
To my knowledge, this game turned out to be an intense one. My team was falling behind the entire game, but
toward the end, we tied it up. I watched as parents yelled and screamed, find to excitement and emotion. Many of
the parents, with their waving arms and cheerful eyes, seemed more involved in the game than their children.
Suddenly, it was my turn to kick the ball. This was my chance to reveal that J was as good as everyone else. I
brought my leg back and was ready to kick with all my strength. I gave a good, hard kick-one of my better—but
unfortunately, I had kicked the ball in the wrong direction. Seeing the disappointed faces of the members of my
team, I felt my face go from pale white to bright red; I wanted to run home, faster than I ever ran in a soccer
practice.
Over the next few years, I continued to participate in a variety of sports, trying to find the one where I would
be the center of attention for the right reasons. That never happened. Very often my father couldn’t wait to practise
playing soccer around the backyard with me. Each time I somehow managed to trip on a shoelace ( 鞋带) or trip
over a rock. My father continued to push me, and during my elementary-school years it seemed that I might
become quite the athlete. At the same time, my little brother was suddenly not so little and began to control the
family athletic field. His ability and passion for sports made me wonder why I was so different.

It was a Saturday in May. It was my third Mother’s Day. The air was warm, the sun was bright, and I spent the
morning leisurely drinking coffee and getting ready with my daughter. My husband returned home from his
shopping trip, giving me a Mother’s Day gift.
Afterward, I needed to head out and go to the grocery store. But I decided to take my daughter to play at the
park first. She ran and played until she grew sticky with sweat and exhaustion ( 筋疲力尽). At that moment, I
realized I had forgotten to pack any snacks. So I promised her I would buy her snacks at the store.
Thirty minutes later, we parked and headed in. I kept thinking about the gift my husband had given me, a dress
for my cousin’s wedding the following month. My daughter was going to be the flower girl, and we still didn’t have
a dress picked out for her. So I decided to check out the children’s clothes next door before buying groceries. In my
excitement, I’d forgotten about the promised snacks. However, my daughter hadn’t.
We just spent two minutes looking at the girl’s section before my daughter began to scream. It felt as if her
lungs could break glass and puncture (刺穿) the eardrums of everyone inside. I tried to help her calm down and
allow us to look a little longer, but her scream deepened in volume.
We quickly made our way out of the store, with eyes following us as my daughter proved her vocal strength.
We stopped just outside of the doors because my daughter began to lie on the floor and scream her heart out as the
rest of the world looked on. Really, it was embarrassing and frustrating (令人沮丧的).
Just then, a grandma approached us. She wanted to pick up my sad daughter and comfort her. I had done that
before, but at this point, my daughter was too far gone. She didn’t want anyone when she was angry. The grandma
offered to hug her, but she refused and cried harder.

Acts of kindness have the power to not only brighten our day but also restore our faith in humanity. While
young children are often reminded to be kind, real-life examples of young people showing charity prove that
kindness knows no age limit.
In the busy city of Detroit, 14-year-old twin sisters, Makhia and Makyla Vincent, were on their usual route to
school when something caught their attention. On the snow-covered ground lay a wallet, seemingly out of place.
“What do you think we should do?” Makyla whispered, her voice low.Makhia bit her lip, her eyes locked on the
wallet. “I don’t know, but we can’t just leave it here. What if the owner needs it desperately?” Finally, worry and
curiosity got the better of them, and they decided to take a look inside.
Slowly, Makhia reached out and picked it up. As she opened it, the sisters gasped at the same time. To their
surprise, they discovered a large amount of cash, bank cards, and a military ID.It was clear that whoever owned
this wallet held great value for these possessions. Instantly, the girls knew exactly what they had to do. Coming
from a family with a veteran (退伍军人) grandfather, the sisters felt a deep sense of empathy for the person who
had lost the wallet.
The girls looked closer to inspect the military ID .It belonged to a Marc Walsh, a middle- aged man who
looked serious. “We have to find this Marc Walsh,” Makhia declared, her voice filled with determination. “But
how?” Makyla asked. Makhia thought for a moment, “Maybe there’s an address on one of these cards. Let’s see if
we can find any clues.”
They carefully examined the bank cards and discovered that one of them had an address on it. It was located
not far from where they stood. With a sense of purpose, the twins decided to make their way to the address, wallet

Being a train driver, I must concentrate on my driving when working. And on that particular day, I was glad
for my outstanding attention.
From a distance, I spotted a small figure like a thin kid on the train tracks. Immediately, I rang the alarm, but
no response. Observing carefully, I saw a boy lying on the tracks, unable to escape from my train, as his foot was
stuck. I pulled the brakes with all my might as soon as I could. Luckily, the train stopped a few inches from the boy,
who was crying loudly in fear.
I approached him, asking how he felt and whether I could give a hand. After getting his permission, I
cautiously checked how his foot was stuck in the tracks. And after a few pulls,  the boy's foot came out finally.
Hugging him and making sure everything was okay, I asked whether I needed to call his parents. To my
astonishment, the child said nothing, just looking at me with his tearful eyes. Considering it was dangerous to leave
the boy alone, I decided to take him to my home after work.
Arriving at my home, I introduced him to my wife, Amelia. She looked at the child in surprise for a while, but
she calmed down quickly and asked whether the boy remembered her. The boy nodded. Amelia explained to me
that she had just walked out of the supermarket with some bread and vegetables the other day, when a group of bad
guys blocked her way. Just then, a little boy ran toward them and screamed to attract the police, which at last saved
her. Here stood the brave boy.
In the following hours, we chatted with each other, and thus we knew that the kid was named Tom and he was
abandoned by his parents and became an orphan who had been alone on the streets for years. As we didn’t have any
children, we were determined to adopt Tom.

Role Change
It was a Friday night, and I was just picked up from school by my uncle. He told me that my mother had been
in a terrible car crash and had been taken to a nearby hospital. When we got to the hospital, my grandmother pulled
me aside and said whatever I did, I mustn’t cry in front of my mother.
My mother’s room was right next to the nurses' station. As I turned into the room, I saw her lying on her side,
with her tiny back to me and a pillow between her bandaged legs. She struggled to turn around but couldn’t. I
slowly inched to the other side of the bed and said “hi” in a calm voice, containing my urge to cry out.
Gently holding my mother’s cold swollen hands, I tried to keep calm. She kept looking straight into my eyes
as if trying to tell me how much pain she was in. I turned my face away from her, trying to hide the tears that were
rolling down my face. Eventually I had to leave her for a moment because I couldn’t take it anymore. That was
when it struck me that I really might lose my mother. Then I went home and cried myself to sleep.
From that night on, my life completely changed. Up to that point, I'd had the luxury of just being a kid, having
to deal with my “messy” teenage life and enjoying my mother’s care. My concept of crisis was now forever
changed. As my mother struggled first to stay alive and then to relearn to walk, my sense of priorities in life
changed completely. My mother needed me. The trials and hardships of my daily life at school, which had seemed
so important before, now appeared insignificant. My mother and I had faced death together, and life took on new
meaning for both of us.
I visited my mother in the hospital as often as I could for the next two months. Finally, a sort of hospital suite
(房间) was set up in our family room, and to my relief and joy, she was allowed to come home.
