2024 高考续写-各模卷【学生版】

An anxious call came into Jimmy Gilleece’s bar. A newly married woman, who had spent the
afternoon at the bar, couldn’t find her wallet. She didn’t care about her ID, credit cards, or $150 in
cash—but her wedding ring was inside.
Gilleece didn’t like the idea that a theft could have occurred at his place. So he set out to find
the wallet. He spent hours looking through security-camera videos, watching the woman’s every
step in the bar until she went to sit on a chair outside and left when her ride arrived. Within
minutes, a young man approached the bench, slipped something into his pocket, and walked off.
Gilleece posted a clip (剪辑) on the bar’s Facebook page. “I didn’t want to punish him,” he said.
“I just asked if anybody knew who the guy was.”
Within hours, Gilleece got a text from 17-year-old Prather, who admitted having taken the
wallet and told Gilleece he’d done it because he hadn’t eaten in two days. He said he saw the ring
but thought it was fake(假的), so he took the money and threw the wallet off the dock (码头) into
the ocean. Then he bought a sandwich.
Gilleece, unsure whether he believed Prather, told the teen to meet him at the dock, where
they got talking and Prather revealed that he wasn’t getting along with his family and had been
living in the woods for a week. Judging from Prather’s small body and red cheeks, Gilleece saw
him for what he was: more of a kid than a criminal.
But the police were already on the case, and because of the missing ring, Prather could be
facing charges. “He would be going to big boy prison. I have to help him somehow,” Gilleece
thought.
Para. 1:Gilleece paid two divers to search the waters where Prather had thrown the wallet.
_______________________________________________________________________________
Para. 2: Then suddenly a diver came up to the surface of the water.

Be a Star of Your Own Movie
I always loved the movies. It didn’t even matter if I went to see them alone. In the movies,
nothing seemed impossible: I became the star of the cheerleading team who leads her team to
victory, or the teenager who bridges the gap between the races at her high school, or even the
young woman who falls in love with a handsome nobleman from the nineteenth century. And I
would always live happily ever after.
In fact, I liked to pretend what was happening on-screen was happening in my own life as
well. I liked the happy endings, the perfect happy endings. I wanted my life to be like that, happy
and wonderful. I wanted to escape the stress of family and friends and school. My only escape
from the reality that trapped me was heading for a movie theatre.
I hadn’t always been this way. As a young girl I was outgoing and friendly, and even involved
in after-school activities. High school was different, though. I became quiet and withdrawn.
My parents were worried about me. They urged me to call old friends or get more involved
with school. After promising my parents a thousand times that I would call one of my old friends,
I finally agreed. The only number I knew by heart was Sarah’s, so I called her. Sarah herself was
pretty close to perfect: straight-A student, class president, off to Yale in the fall, beautiful, sweet,
brilliant. We decided to meet fora pizza lunch.
We ate and talked and caught up on old times. I told her how difficult it had been for me in
the past few years and how unbearable the pressure had been. “I wish my life was the way it is in
the movies,” I sighed, “I would be so much easier.” I looked down through my fingers, face in my
hands. “I understand,” she said. I looked up at her, questioning her with my eyes.

She explained she used to escape her realities by doing the same thing.

Mike licked the last of the mint chocolate chip ice cream. It was almost time to leave. He
jumped into the car with his parents and headed off to the Olympic-sized pool for the big swim
meet.
When his race came up, Mike was confident. He was strong and swift. Mike climbed out the
pool, smiling. He had just won first place, making him the fastest boy in his age group.
“Congratulations, son,” his father said. His mom gave him a hug, even though he was
soaking wet.
A week later, it was time for another swim meet. Like before, Mike decided to enjoy his
favorite ice cream flavor. Mike remembered that the last time he had won a race, he also ate mint
chocolate chip ice cream first. Maybe he’d win again.
He’s taken first place again in his race. Mike was feeling pretty good. As it turned out, Mike
decided to have some mint chocolate chip ice cream before every one of the next few swim meets.
He began to think of it as his lucky charm. After several months of placing in the top positions of
every race he swam, Mike was feeling unbeatable. And he wouldn’t admit it, but all that ice cream
was adding a few pounds to his athletic swimmer’s build.
It didn’t take long after that for Mike to start coming in second place – and then third – and
then last place in his races. The lucky mint chocolate chip ice cream had lost its magic.
On the day of his next swim meet, his mother sat down at the table with him. “Mike, we all
love ice cream, but it’s not healthy for your body to eat so much of it. Maybe it’s time to quit the
sweet treats for a while, especially before you go swimming.””
Mike unwillingly agreed. He went to the swim meet, and didn’t perform well. His father
offered to go running with him a few days a week to help him feel better and strengthen his
muscles. The extra weight soon disappeared, and Mike found himself breathing easier at swim
practices.

When I started karate (空手道) class a few years ago, I didn’t know a single person. I felt
ashamed of having no idea how to do any of the moves. Even though I liked the learning part, I
did not like the feeling-worse-than-everyone part!
But one day after class while I was putting my shoes on, a girl named Abigail said, “That last
kick we practiced is so hard for me, and you’re so good at it.”
“You must have confused me with someone else,” I replied. “I’m not good at any of it.”
“In that case, I’m in trouble,” she joked, “because you’re the one I stand behind and copy in
class.”
I laughed, “Seriously?”
“Seriously!” she laughed, too. After that, we became great friends. However, a few months
later when Abigail’s mom got a job in a different state and she had to move away, I was rather sad.
I had a tough time dragging myself to karate for a while after that I missed Abigail so much.
Then, a girl named Ava joined my class. She was always quiet. Until one day we finally had a
conversation.
“It must be weird (怪异的) being the new one in class.” I said.
“So weird!” said Ava. “You do things really differently than we did at my old dojo (柔道馆).”
I suddenly realized she’d been silent only because she was new. We started talking more, and
we got along so well that we started hanging out after class. Then, almost a year later, guess who
showed up at karate.
“This is so cool.” I said, giving Abigail a huge hug. “What are you doing here?”
“My mom’s job in New York didn’t work out,” she explained. “So we got to move back.”
“That’s the best news ever!” I said. “You have to meet my dear friend Ava. And Ava, meet my
dear friend Abigail.”
I put my arms around their shoulders. Feeling very excited, I told them I hoped we could get
along well and be close friends, while Abigail and Ava stared at each other with some hesitation
and an uncertain smile.

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The
crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The streams were long gone back into the earth.
If we didn’t see some rain soon, we would lose everything.
I was in the kitchen making lunch for the family when I saw my six-year-old son Billy,
walking toward the woods. I could only see his back. He wasn’t walking in his usual way. He was
obviously walking with a great effort, trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared
into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house.
Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow and purposeful step toward
the woods. This activity went on for over an hour walking cautiously to the woods, then running
back to the house. Finally, my curiosity got the best of me. I crept out of the house and followed
him on his journey.
He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, being very careful not to spill the
water he carried. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He
had a much greater purpose. As I leaned against a tree to spy on him, I saw the most amazing site.
Several large deer appeared threatening in front of him. But Billy walked right up to them. I
almost screamed for him to get away. And I saw a baby deer lying on the ground, obviously
suffering from heavy loss of water and heat exhaustion, lift its head with great effort to lap up the
water in my boy’s hand.

It was the 2019 National Senior Games in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was there for the
1,500-meter race. Yes, you heard it right — four times around the track, 1,500 meters, at the age of
93.
In advance of the tough race, we’d stood baking in the sun for at least an hour while the
committee got the race walk organized. We’d walked almost the full distance of the race getting
registered and into position. We’d stood in the sun listening to the directions: heel first, then shift
weight to the ball of the foot.
There were forty-four other contestants but only two in my age group, ninety- to ninety-four-
year-old women, so I was counting on the bronze. I decided to keep my mind on “weight-on-the-
heel, weight-on-the-ball-of-the-foot, go Jean go”.
As I passed the finish line for the first time, my son cheered and yelled, “Go, Jean, go!” By
the time I finished another lap and passed the finish line a second time, other people sitting in the
stands joined in. I yelled back, “Thanks!”
I was soon being passed by walkers from other age groups. As they went by, they said, “You
can do it. Keep going.”
I started getting the little red dots at the back of my eyes that signal lack of oxygen. I kept
blinking my eyes, trying to see. I passed the finish line a third time. I was on the last lap.
I tried to change my posture (姿势) to put the stress in a different place. My cane (拐棍) was
having trouble finding the ground. I was gasping (喘气) for breath.
Two judges came running toward me. “Don’t give up,” one of them said. “You’re going to
make it.” The other told me to move over a lane, which would be slightly shorter. My cane was
having trouble again. “The finish line isn’t far now,” the judge said.
“How far?” I asked.
“Up there, that line of trees.”

【4-2024 附中高三上月考4】
Mike, aged 14, was a music fan, especially a fan of violin. He expected to be a music star
one day. Unfortunately, born into a poor family depending on delivering newspapers and milk, he
couldn’t afford a violin. He had thought of asking his parents to pay for one but finally he
abandoned possessing the impossible musical instrument.
Mike’s neighbor, Joseph, happened to be a violinist. The greatest pleasure Mike found after
school every day was enjoying the beautiful melodies floating out of Joseph’s window. Not until
dark did Mike sneak into his own room. And every time Mike’s mother asked him why he came
home late, Mike would say he was lost in music.
“Why not spend more time in your lessons instead, sweetheart? After all, music can’t make
money if you’re not so famous.” In order to prove he could realise his dream, he knew he must
have his own violin and practise more.
Mike found a job at a nearby church, running errands for the servicemen. One day, another
music player happened to learn about Mike’s situation and offered him an old violin as a gift. He
even promised to teach him how to play after church services at the weekends. Months later, Mike
learned violin very well.
The first performance he made was on the roadside of a lonely street. From time to time
passersby stopped to watch him play. And a few even left some coins in his hat lying on the
ground. When it was time for Mike to go back, he heard a woman’s cry. Following the sound,
Mike spotted her and discovered the truth that she was called Connie, a trainee in a cafeteria, and
that she had just had an awful day at work and was yelled by the boss.

When I was in middle school, my family moved to Seattle, where my parents started their
new business — a small grocery store downstairs of my house. As a girl of shy and reserved
nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the city life.
One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food
bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city
hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement filled the school as everyone began preparing for the
big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my self-doubt
held me back, “I don’t have any special skills to share.”
Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn’t shake the upsetting
feeling until one day Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was
helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” She
grinned (笑), “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can’t help following you
here.” Gosh, I couldn’t believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged
my little talent. Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune.
“You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent towards us and her face lit up.
“A big occasion.” Then a light bulb seemed to go in her head. “Why not practise right now
upstairs? I bet you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking at us, she seemed to know we were thinking
alike.
Emma and I embarked on rehearsing ( 排练) almost every single day after school. We
brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty
good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called that she had an acute
stomachache and was not in any shape to perform.

【4-2024 长郡高三上月考4】
It was the first day of our new grade. Everyone in the classroom was chatting happily, excited
to see each other again after the long holidays. When the door slid open, all of us stopped talking
and turned to look. In came our teacher Ms. Sullivan, followed by an ordinary-looking boy,
“This boy’s name is Rafael.” Ms. Sullivan announced. “He’s a transfer student (转校生), and
he’s going to be in our class starting from today. Make sure all of you welcome him warmly.”
The class clapped. But I didn't want to have a second look at the newcomer, for he had no
outstanding qualities considering his small figure and casual T-shirt.
“Oh, I forgot to mention one thing.” Ms. Sullivan spoke up. “Rafael actually has hearing
problems. Normally he would have hearing aids on, but his old ones have just been broken.
His doctor suggested that he stay at home until he got his new ones. However, Rafael insisted
on attending his first day of school. So if you want to communicate with him, you have to write it
on a piece of paper.”
This single speech sent the whole class up into an uproar (嘈杂). Some students looked at
each other with expressions of surprise. Others voiced cries of concern out of pity.
Ms. Sullivan calmed everyone down. “I’d like someone to personally help him out
throughout the day. Do I have any volunteers?”
“How can a disabled person be intelligent?” I thought to myself. I refused to raise my hand
expecting someone else would. But nobody did or said anything. Dead silence spread across the
classroom.
It was by total bad luck that my eyes happened to meet Ms. Sullivan's.
“How about you, James?” She asked me. “Is it okay for you to take care of Rafael just for
today?”
It is difficult to refuse a request by someone, especially if that person is a teacher. I sighed
and nodded slightly. Ms. Sullivan gestured for Rafael to sit beside me and then asked us to share
our holiday stories with the class.

Immediately, the class became excited.

Green Thumb
All I did was show my little sister how to grow plants. Dig a hole. Put in a seed. Cover it with
dirt. Water it. Wait. See, Laynie, "I explained, "a whole plant will grow from this tiny seed. All we
have to do is water it. "
Laynie had her own watering can so she could "help" me in the garden. One day, after
everything was, watered, she ran to the fence and started sprinkling water on another spot. I
walked over and saw a fresh patch of dirt near the fence.
"Did you plant something there?" I asked.
“Yes, " she said. “I'm growing a pencil. My purple pencil got too small, so I planted it. "
"What? But, Laynie-"
I should have explained things right then, but I just muttered, "Uh. . . I never grew one
before. "
Later I got what seemed like a great idea. I dug up Laynie's pencil and "planted" a brand-
new purple pencil. Laynie was really excited when she saw it. "My pencil grew!" she shouted.
A few days later, Laynie was watering on the same spot. Two days later, new crayons sticking
their pointy little heads out, thanks to me. Laynie jumped up and down and yelled, "They look like
flowers!" She "picked" them and ran into the house.
Next, Laynie grew an adult bear doll from a tiny one, a soup spoon from a teaspoon, and a
hand mirror from a piece of glass. When she claimed that she had grown these things, I just kept
my mouth shut! Actually, it was fun trying to think of what should grow from Laynie's seeds. And
it was cool to see her get excited.
One day I saw her patting down some dirt near the fence again, so I knew she'd just planted
something. My heart dropped to my feet when she asked, "How long does it take to grow a
goldfish, Brad?" I couldn't speak.
Not long, I bet!" said Laynie. She knelt down to whisper "Grow, Molly. Grow!" before she
skipped back to the house.
