WHEN CHOCOLATE BECOMES A WORK OF ART!
Chocolate is delicious, we all know that. But it isn’t just for eating, as these chocolate works of art clearly
show.
Chocolate Mailbox
In 2011, chocolate company Godiva made a chocolate mailbox with white truffle hearts to celebrate Valentine’s
Day. The mailbox was on display at its shop on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Customers could post their love
letters there, and the company would stamp and mail them for free during the three weeks leading up to Valentine’s
Day.Chocolate Couch
In 2009, chocolate company Galaxy used 250 kg of their own chocolate to make a chocolate couch. The couch
was a part of their “Irresistible Reads” campaign, which was designed to promote reading. It was put on display in
Victoria Embankment Gardens in London. Photos were taken of British TV actress Emilia Fox sitting on the couch
reading a book.
Chocolate Hotel Suite
In 2011, French chocolatier Patrick Roger worked with fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld. The room, at the La Reserve
hotel in Paris, had a chocolate carpet, chocolate bed and chocolate nightstand full of chocolate books. Sitting on the
bed was a chocolate man eating a Magnum ice cream.
Chocolate Tree
In 2012, Patrick Roger made a five-metre tree from five tons of chocolate. The sculpture, which was at Roger’s
shop in Paris, even had chocolate monkeys hanging from chocolate branches. Roger wanted to raise awareness of the
problems facing African wildlife.

Confessions of an annoying Mosquito
If you’re reading my confessions (自白), congratulations! You’ll have a safe and healthy summer.
We love when you work up a sweat. It’s really the carbon dioxide you breathe out that makes us beeline to
ward you, not the fragrance of your “sweet blood.”
Love beer? So do some of us. They can tell when you’ve been drinking because your skin chemistry changes,
and it attracts them
Pregnant? Yum. If you’re having a baby, you emit more carbon dioxide and your belly has a higher temperature,
drawing some of us right to you. Sorry, baby.Hate getting bitten up? Blame the ladies. Males do not eat human blood: They get all their nutrition from
plants. After we have a blood meal, we can lay anywhere from 100 to 400 eggs
Smelly feet are simply delicious. Scientists have shown we find your toes ten times more inviting than
Limburger cheese.
If your home’s landscaping is well tended, we won’t like it as much. We like to hang out in thick, overgrown
vegetation. The darker and more damp, the better. And puddles (水沟) of smelly water is where we like to lay our
eggs.
Got those CO-emitting traps in your yard? Great! You may think you’re outsmarting us with these devices,
2
which emit carbon dioxide to lure (引诱) us into a trap. But they may attract more of us than they are able to trap,
increasing our presence in your yard.
When it comes to West Nile, end-of-summer bites may do more harm. It’s simple logic: We bite birds with
West Nile virus; then we bite humans and spread it. By summer’s end, we’ve had more chances to bite infected
birds.
21. What can we know from the confessions?
A. Mosquitoes love smelly toes most.
B. All the mosquitoes suck drinking people.
C. The mosquito making the confessions is female.
D. Mosquito bites in early summer are more harmful.
22. Which of the following is least likely to attract “WE” according to the text?
A. A woman who is expecting. B. A yard with traps emitting oxygen.
C. A man who has just finished jogging. D. A house surrounded with smelly puddles.
23. What is the tone of the text?
A. Amusing. B. Serious. C. Sad. D. Proud.

SO THAT’S WHY WE CALL THAT THAT
In 1997, two smarty-pants, needing a name for their new data-index website, came up with “googol”, which is
the number one followed by a hundred zeroes. Perfect! But as they typed Googol into a domain-name search engine,
they committed a critical mistake. And the mistake stuck. Don’t believe us? Google it. Meanwhile, here are the stories
behind other brand names.
Triscuit ► ELECTRICITY BISCUITS
Triscuit, a snack cracker, is short for “electricity biscuit”, because the first ones were proudly produced with
hydro-electric power.
Häagen-Dazs ► NOTHING
Häagen-Dazs is short for... absolutely nothing. Reuben Mattus, who moved to Brooklyn from Poland, created
the ice cream company in 1959. He wanted to give his company a Danish-sounding name in honour of Denmark’sreputation during the World War Ⅱ and settled on this nonsense phrase.
Nike ► VICTORY
Nike was named for the Greek goddess of victory. Legend has it that the shoe company’s famous “swoosh” logo
represents the fleet-footed goddess’s wings.
Adidas ► ADI DASSLER
Adidas is an abbreviation of “Adi Dassler”, one of two Dassler brothers from Germany who founded competitive
shoe empires after the World War Ⅱ (Adi’s brother Rudi founded Puma).
Lego ► PLAY WELL
Lego, a children’s toy that consists of small colored bricks that fit together, is a contraction of the Danish
phrase leg godt, meaning “play well”.
21. Why does the author mention the story of Google in Paragraph 1?
A. To arouse curiosity of the brand names. B. To classify the following brands.
C. To introduce a wonderful search engine. D. To help search for information.
22. Which brand name has the story related to the myth?
A. Nike. B. Adidas. C. Triscuit. D. Häagen-Dazs.
23. What can we learn from the text?
A. Adidas was founded during the World War Ⅱ.
B. The founders of Adidas and Nike were brothers.
C. The stories behind Lego and Häagen-Dazs relate to Danish.
D. The first Triscuit biscuits were proudly made with solar power.

This famous wine bar provides a spot with a rare sweet and warm atmosphere. For date night, go to the bar with
views of the open kitchen, or fill up the large table in the back with a group and taste the entire 20-item menu. Either
way, do not miss the famous mushroom soup.
Le Doyenné—Saint-Vrain, France
Australian chefs James Henry and Shaun Kelly transformed the former stables (马厩) of a 19th-century private
estate into a working farm, restaurant, and guesthouse driven by the principles of regenerative agriculture. More than
one hundred varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs make their way into Henry’s cooking after being carefully
nurtured (培育) by Kelly.

If you can brave cooler temperatures and sometimes rainy weather, you’ll likely be rewarded with fewer crowds
and lower travel rates in the following popular destinations.
Maui
Although March falls within Maui’s peak season, its excellent weather and conditions for water sports and
wildlife viewing make it a superb time to visit. Experienced surfers can head to popular surf spots like Ho’okipa

settled here during the ice age. Then, travel outside of Whitehorse to check out some of the Yukon’s breathtaking
natural attractions, such as Kluane National Park and Reserve and see the northern lights in March.

particularly towards the end of the month.
Moab
Located between two of Utah’s five main national parks, Moab is an outdoor adventure centre known for its
