How to Burn More Calories (卡路里) When Walking
Walking is a low-cost, easy-to-do exercise that almost anyone can do. It is not only good for your brain, but it
also helps you lose weight. Do you want to burn more calories when walking? 1
• Walk fast enough. It is clear that you will burn more calories if you walk farther. However, you may not have
enough time. Studies show that you will burn more calories if you walk faster. 2 This may help you save
time.
• 3 You don’t have to follow a strict speed plan all the time. It means that you needn’t always walk
fast. In fact, changing your walking speed will burn about 20% more calories than walking at the same speed. So just
try walking fast for some time, and then slow down. Repeat that several times.
• Walking without eating. It’s never a good idea to exercise without eating. 4 It is because walking
won’t use up your energy quickly. But if you want to walk in the early morning, it’s better to eat something before
you go out.
A.Change speed often.
B.A slow walk helps a lot.
C.So walk as fast as you can.
D.Here are some good ideas for you.

Show Our Support
Sometimes our friends go through difficult times. They have to deal with illnesses or other big changes in their
life. We probably wish we could do something to help but might not be sure how to do it. In fact, it’s a good beginning
only if we want to support them. 1
Let them know we care
Our friends may feel like talking about their troubles, or they may not. If they want to share, we can help by
listening. If they don’t, that’s OK, too. 2 We could show them that they are in our mind by making a card
with a note inside, like “Thinking of you!” Making a video on our own or with a group is another method.
    3
Our friends would like nothing more than to spend time with us. If possible, ask whether they would like to
do something together such as taking a walk, watching a movie, or going to a concert. If they live far away, we could
send them a special message to help them feel connected.
Finish small tasks
4 Our friends want to take part in our daily tasks as much as possible, although they are experiencing
troubles. If possible, let them help with tasks like doing the dishes, taking care of a pet, or folding clothes. In the
same way, our friends also want us to take more part in their small daily tasks. For example, if a friend has missed
school, he wishes us to help with their schoolwork.
Talk to someone
Remember that our feelings are important, too. It is normal to worry about our friends, and it can be helpful to
talk to a trusted adult, like a parent or a teacher. 5 This is better than looking up information on the Internet.
If we get an adult’s help, we might find out more support for our friends.
A.Spend time together
B.We can consider the following ideas to show our support.
C.We can ask questions about anything we don’t understand.
D.They should finish the work alone without asking for support.
E.It’s important to let them know we care and will be there for them.
F.Another way to show our support is to finish small tasks with them.

Have you ever felt bored or down in your life? Keeping yourself positive is about having a feeling of happiness
and life satisfaction. It is also linked to health. 1
● Love and accept yourself.
2 You should not care too much about changing yourself. Use active self-talk by thinking or telling
yourself things like, “I love who I am. I accept everything about myself right now. How I am right at this moment is
completely fine.”
● Think from the brighter side.
Your own thoughts will greatly influence how you feel. Many people think they don’t achieve what they want.
If you are part of them, it’s hard for you to feel satisfied. Positive people don’t look for other materials or experiences
to keep happy. 3
● Do activities that lift your spirits.
Being active is connected with happiness levels. 4 Some examples are watching TV, painting and
listening to music. Doing exercise like swimming and hiking also helps. Do whatever can help you.
● 5
Do not depend on others to tell you what you want. Hold true to your own beliefs. If you want to be a driver,
start to study traffic rules. If you dream of becoming a writer, begin to write daily. Every step towards your dream is
a success — even the smallest one.
A.Be independent.
B.Set your own goals.
C.Focus on what you are now.
D.Join in relaxing activities in your free time.
E.So, pay close attention to good parts of your life.

We all answer questions every day. But how do you know if your answer is actually reasonable (合理的)? Here
are four simple ways to check.
Think about the logic (逻辑)
A reasonable answer must follow basic logic. If your answer disagrees with common knowledge, something
is probably wrong. For example, if a math problem asks how many apples are in a basket, and you get “-5”, that isn’t
reasonable. 1 Always ask yourself, “Does this fit the real world?”
Use real-life examples
Let’s say you are solving a science question, “Why do we feel cold in winter?” A reasonable answer is,
“Because the temperature drops.” Now compare that with an unreasonable answer, “Because the sun gets angry.”
The first answer uses facts. 2 When you give an answer, try to connect it to something you have actually
seen or experienced.
    3
Before you finish, ask yourself, “Is my answer close to what I expected?” Let’s do a quick math check. If you
calculate 38×4, and you get 152, that feels right. But if you get 1,520, that is too big. Compare your answer with an
estimate (估算). If they are very different, go back and check your work.
Ask yourself questions
This is the easiest method. Just ask yourself, “Is the answer reasonable?” “Can I explain the answer to a friend?”
“Would my teacher accept the answer?” If you can’t explain your answer in simple words, you might not fully
understand it yourself. 4
In short, a reasonable answer is logical, factual (事实的), close to your estimate, and easy to explain. 5
You will make fewer mistakes and feel more confident.
A.You cannot have negative apples.
B.Compare it with what you expected.
C.Connect it with what you already know.
D.A good answer should be easy to talk about.
E.The second sounds funny but has no science behind it.
F.Next time you finish a question, spend a few seconds checking.

How old is “old”? The United Nations describes any person over the age of 60 as old. 1 In many
cultures, people in their fifties or sixties may already be seen as elderly, while in others, old age begins much later.
Elderly people are treated differently in different countries.
In countries such as the US and the UK, most old people prefer to live independently. 2 Governments
provide health care and community services to support the elderly. While they are respected, modern western culture
stresses the importance of youth. 3 Old age is often connected with a person becoming less active or less
independent. In addition, some people are afraid of growing old. They fear that they will be lonely and bored.
4 In Korea, for example, the 60th and 70th birthdays are two of the most important. These birthdays
are the cause for family celebration. In India the elderly are respected for their wisdom. Respecting the elderly is a
deep-rooted tradition in Chinese culture. Special festivals like the Double Ninth Festival remind people to honor
them.
Although there are differences, treating the elderly with kindness, respect and care is a common value. 5
Helping elderly people live healthily and happily becomes even more important.
A.The world’s population is growing old.
B.In other countries old age is celebrated.
C.They value their freedom and personal space.
D.Growing old is not regarded as a positive life event.
E.The elderly teach the young their duties and manners.
F.Around the world there is no single universal standard.
(2026·黑龙江齐齐哈尔·中考真题)
As we admire the Full Moon on the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, have you ever thought of the
relationships among the Sun, Earth and the Moon? 1
As Earth turns, sometimes we face the Sun. 2 When Earth’s spin (旋转) turns us away from the Sun,
we get night. That’s when people on the opposite side of Earth face the Sun. At that time, those people have day
while we have night.
3 Unlike the Sun, it doesn’t make its own light. It can only reflect the light from the Sun. The Sun
lights up only the side of the Moon that faces the Sun. At Full Moon, the Moon is on the opposite side of Earth from
the Sun. 4 During the Full Moon, the Moon rises around sunset (日落), and sets around sunrise.
But moonlight is so bright that you can sometimes see it during the day too. A few days before Full Moon, if
you look east in the afternoon, you may see the Moon. And for a few days after Full Moon, you can find it if you
look west in the morning. But the Moon is most difficult to see at New Moon, when it is between Earth and the Sun.
At that time, the side of the Moon facing Earth is dark. 5 How amazing it is to see the changes of the Moon!
According to the changes, humans created the calendar. Remember that many humans’ achievements are based
on the simplest things—glancing at the sky. Are you brave enough to join in exploring space?
根据语篇内容,从所给的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,使语篇语意连贯,选项中有一项为多余
项。
A.As a result, the Moon can’t be seen at all.
B.The Moon is a different story.

F.Then the side of the Moon facing Earth is all lit up.

Straight or arched, thick or thin—eyebrows (眉毛) come in many shapes and sizes. But what are eyebrows
even for? They don’t keep us warm like our hair, or help us breathe like our noses. So why do we have them? 1
Early humans had large brow ridges (眉骨). 2 Later, as the human face became smaller and flatter,
our eyebrows helped us to express different feelings, as well as better understand others’ feelings. For example, a
quick flash of the eyebrows... This is a sign that someone is willing to communicate with others, while pulling our
eyebrows up in the middle is an expression of sympathy (同情). 3 just draw a simple face on a piece of paper
and draw a line above the eyes. You can draw lines in different shapes and directions. You will find that it is very
easy to show anger, fear or surprise on a face.
But this is not the only purpose of our eyebrows. 4 Their arched shape can help to move rain or sweat
around to the sides of our faces, keeping our eyes dry. Together with our eyelashes (眼睫毛), eyebrows can also help
to keep dust and other things out of our eyes.

Eyes play an important role in daily life. However, some habits may be bad for your eyes. Healthy vision (视
力) starts with you! 1
◆ Do exercise.
Kids who exercise often have a healthier body weight than kids who don’t. If you are too heavy, it is easy to
get into some health problems such as diabetes. These problems might lead to poor vision. 2
◆ Eat right.
Keep your eyes healthy by eating right food. Try to have different kinds of fruits and green vegetables. Fish
has been shown to help your eyes, too.
◆ 3
Don’t spend too much time on a computer, mobile phone, or TV screen. Looking at any one thing for too long
can tire your eyes. Give your eyes a rest with the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look about 20 feet away for 20
seconds.
◆ Wear the right protection.
4 When you do sports on the playground or use chemicals (化学品) in a science lab, protective glasses
are helpful to prevent your eyes from getting hurt. When walking in the sun, you’d better wear sunglasses to protect
your eyes.
◆ Speak up if your vision changes.
Do you have trouble seeing anything at school? Do you squint (眯着眼看) a lot? 5 If you notice any
changes in your vision, tell your parents or teachers. They can help you find ways to keep your eyes healthy.
